Though I do not count this as random stupidity, I would like to know just the same and feel asking this question on a website will give me more of a base line with which to work.

I wish to discern an average female and male wrist and ankle size for my college assignment in forging slave bracelets and as I wish to go on privatly in creating a set so to speak, I also desire to find an average neck size for a forged steel collar.

So of you nice people here who can see the use of obtaining such dimensions, would you be so kind as to suggest how many inches wide are your ankles, wrists and neck, both male and female?

seems to me that a haberdashery could give you that answer in no time at all, and a jeweler.

Course, I am a lazy bastard, and I would do it by phone, not even walking into the store to find out.

wrists are a little over 5.5", ankles are too damn big for my liking at almost 9", neck is 14.5".  Ron's idea is probably far more likely to yield accurate results.

Hi,
Female here - my wrist is 6 & 1/4 inches, my ankle is 8 inches,  my neck 15 inches (and I am "big boned").

I'm curious about a "college assignment" that involves forging slave bracelets  ... ???  Have fun!

Neck 12 inches
L Wrist Almost 5.5 inches, and that is across the bone
R Wrist the same
L Ankle 7.25 inches
R Ankle 7 inches

Note, I am small boned according to that pinky-thumb-wrist thing.

I also am only 5 foot 2, so I am not quite average female size.

Thanks to all who have replied so far, it is helping. I know about average sizes for jewellery, as I also make jewellery, but I seek to survey myself, for my own interest.

As to my college project, well I am an artist and it is an artist type thing to make controversial art. Though I have suggested that the cuffs are just an object to make so that I may apply texture to, a confusion of colour from fire scale black to the yellows, oranges and browns of acid accelerated rust that contrasting with polished metal to suggest long time wear.

If it comes to me selling the things, a subject can relish in the applied art that restrains them-----big grins!!

I seem to recall 6 inches is the norm for a female wrist.
I have a 16 inch neck...and I believe that was the norm as well.

Been 20 years since I knew the norms...but I recall I was alledegly totally normal.

So am I, just ask me.  I've got lots of muscle on me though..and some fat to.
I'd want an 18 inch chain even though a 16 fits me.  I've never measured my ankles..although one was broken when I was in the military and always larger than the other..

Just keep in mind that wrists and ankles are nowhere near round in cross-section, so anything inflexible drawn into a circle based on raw circumference is not going to fit! Also, they taper as they near the body, which can become an issue if you're building large shackles as opposed to modern cuffs

Wrists- 2-3/4" x 2" (probably average for a male, glove size is L or XL depending on brand)
Ankles- 4-1/2" x 3-1/2" (no idea, assume they're average)

Other pertinent measurements would be the smallest measure of the widest portion of the hand, to keep cuffs from slipping off- that would be 3-1/2"- and the measurement from the front of ankle to the back of the heel with the toes pointed- that's about 5-1/2"

For neck size, mine (which i know is larger than average) is about 17-3/4"- i wear a steel collar with an 18" inner circumference. When i bend my head back, it presses quite noticably into the front of my throat. i like this, but i'm not sure that everyone does. Just something to consider.

Good luck! Sounds much cooler than anything i did in college
