No set honorifics with us, he has me use his first name. If I am speaking of him to another person sometimes I will say 'R and I did such-and-such today' or occasionally 'My dom and I did such-and-such today' but I tend to use the latter more often in the written form. quote: ORIGINAL: Evility What has always puzzled me is when a submissive refers to her dominant as "my Sir". Calling me John, Sir and Master are all appropriate at different times. I don't think that I've ever had to ask anyone to call me by anything specifically, though I have indicated what circumstances I think are more or less appropriate for each of them (for example, don't call me John when I'm lecturing, and don't call me Master in front of my family). On the other hand, there have been more than a few times when I've asked someone not to use a particular honorific with me. I don't appreciate strangers calling me "Sir", and I don't appreciate anyone that's not mine calling me "Master". And I don't give a rat's patoot what their habits/conventions are; theirs should not trump mine. If we can't agree on John, I'll simply walk away. John

Cali See, now this forward/backward thing can get kind of confusing... I try not be forward..so, I can see where counter-clockwise might be a good thing.. On the other hand, I also try not to live in the past, and going backward...well, that's a problem too... So...how to be forward-thinking without forward acting...it's bound to make a person be a bit less than level headed...Then again, being level is the same either way...oh god...that means I'm stagnant. This is actually defined in my protocol. I prefer to be called Ma'am if spoken to and Master Fire if spoken of, unless the situation warrents a vanilla response, in which case Fire or my name will do. Master Fire

I'm another one with a set protocol. Master is the term my slave Elegant uses with me. Daddy is the term my boi Lane uses with me. Elegant may use Sir in informal situations, as may Lane. I do not allow anyone to call me just "Master" who I do not own, without correcting them. My protocol goes further though with the idea that: Sir/ Ma'am is the defalut pronoun used for Dominants, unless and until they offer up another prefered option. Master ______ etc are used for specific people who I have told the family to use it with. A person can move both up and down from these honorifics based on their behaviour. Slaves or submissives may promote the honorific use when they feel it is warranted. Slaves or submissives must bring it to my attention when they feel someone deserves to be moved downward. So We meet John Q at an event Joh is refered to as Sir unless he asks for something different. Time passes and John displays behaviour that is exemplary of a Master, The slave can start calling him Master Q. More time passes and a personality shift happens and Master Q becomes rather an ass. Elegant comes to me and relates the behavior and asks if she still should call him Master Q. She presents a good case and I decide either John is called simply Sir or maybe even simply John after that date. It works much simpler than it reads.

With my Master it is always Daddy when i speak to him....his real name when i refer to him to others who know us or who are work related etc and my Daddy or Daddy when refering to him to someone else in the lifestyle who understands what i mean. Only on a couple of occasions has he had me call him Master and it felt odd, like i was calling him the wrong name and very rarely have i ever had to use Sir and when i have it was as in a "yes Sir/no Sir" way and not calling him Sir instead of Daddy. As for other Dominants, he expects me to refer to them by their name, if i know it and without an honorific as it is meaningless to him. the same applies for other subs calling him Sir who don't know him well...in his term, it is superfluous.i have even refered to certain people by their screen name with the honorific and he says, "Just say Bob, or Joe or whatever..not Lord/King/Emporer/Sir Bob."

If we are being formal, then formal honorifics are employed. Otherwise, nothing set in stone.
