pinkvelvet -> a rose is a rose is a rose....or...? (9/6/2005 5:26:11 PM)

I'm just beginning to explore my dominant nature, and I was wondering...what are some of the other titles or forms of address that some of you other Dommes like to be called BESIDES "Mistress"?

I know "Mistress" is sort of the standard...I've heard "Lady" (which I hate) and "Princess"....ehh....not really the title for me.

"Mistress" just seems so plain, and besides, it has the connotation of being an "other" woman (like when a man is married and has a Mistress on the side)...not to mention, it has the word "stress" right there in it. *haha!*

Anyways, I would love to hear about some of the more creative respectful titles or forms of address that other Dommes enjoy, if anyone would like to share. I definitely would like to be called something more formal than just my everyday name, but 'Mistress' seems kind of lame and unoriginal sometimes.....

When a sub sez "Mistress" what is it that distinguishes you in his (or her) mind from other mistresses who came before you?

Again, just curious...
thx

I don't personally have a problem with "Mistress", Myself, provided I am, indeed, a boy's Mistress. Ma'am is fine for Me as an everyday form of address. But a lot of Ladies are uncomfortable with that. Goddess is alright for Me, but it is more for an indication on My style of Domination, as opposed to a title I want or need to hear. Helpful on the search engines, too! *W* However, I can accept that as a form of address in certain circumstances.
Ms, Miss, Madame, M'lady, all come to mind. And, of course, in the necessary and appropriate situations, My given name.
Hope that helps, and I will be interested to hear of any others. I know My suggestions are pretty run of the mill.

Edited to add: The difference between a boy calling Me Mistress, as opposed to previous Mistresses, is simply that he now belongs to Me and I am his Mistress. If he is not Mine, he is not to call Me Mistress in the first place. And I would not permit him to address other any other Domina as Mistress, since he does not belong to them.
I am called Mistress quite often and inappropriately. It is a matter if education. Many boys think any Domina is autuomatically "Mistress" and that is a proper form of address. With that happening so often, it does dilute the title.

MistressGrace07 -> RE: a rose is a rose is a rose....or...? (9/6/2005 11:13:11 PM)

Mistress - goddess (only My jack can call Me that) - Mistress of My heart.... (that is what My michael calls Me)...

it's not really the title itself.. but the tone My submissives/slaves say it in... it's just full of life... and makes you almost shiver.

I have a switch that corresponds with me, always using some new creative honorific. Unfortunately, none of which come to mind at the moment. After all, he's not *my* submissive, so I don't take what he calls me to heart. (Which pretty much sums up my feelings about being called, Mistress, Goddess, or whatever by other messaging submissives.)

My own calls me "Mistress" or "Ma'am", both classic, not boring! lol My sub was in the military, so he definitely knows how to say "Ma'am" the way it's meant to be said.

But if in my next message from the switch, he comes up with something particularly noteworthy, I'll pass it on.

Well...when I read one of your posts or your profile pops up, for some reason the ''D'' in ''Dusty'' always comes to mind. And I don't necessarily think of the word ''Dominance'', either, but rather ''Dynamite'' or ''Dangerous'' {As in that lace bodysuit} ; } HAR!!

I did mention, in certain circumstances (like when with non-kink family or other similar situations) that I would expect and accept that My given name would be used as the form of address. But for everyday personal interaction, in a 24/7 M/s relationship, I would be Mistress or Ma'am. And I like both of those!

UtopianRanger -> RE: a rose is a rose is a rose....or...? (9/7/2005 2:41:20 AM)

Lets see.... an auction at the Holiday Inn in early November {shortly after your Birthday} and a show in NYC, with a short drive to Boston right before Thanksgiving - But the one I really can't miss is a jaunt to Vancouver a few days after Christmas - Dynamite? Dangerous? - Yes that's an understatement. LMAO!!

I just like to be called by my name, with no titles attached. I use my initial only, online, but when meeting people, use my full first name.

I positively loathe when a man calls me "Mistress," and while there are a few people that call me Lady K, it's more for them to use it, and not my own preference. "Ma'am" is quite popular, but tends to make me feel old, and I'd rather not hear that either.

Truly, I tend to find that if a man that doesn't know me, attaches a title to my name, then he's either living in HIS own fantasyland, or trying to project more into our acquaintance relationships than is really there.

GoddessDustyGold -> RE: a rose is a rose is a rose....or...? (9/7/2005 2:50:12 PM)

Not yet...
I will meet The Ranger in early November when he comes to Phoenix.
And I am very much looking forward to it!

LadyHibiscus -> RE: a rose is a rose is a rose....or...? (9/7/2005 6:46:15 PM)

Well DEEP envy, as I said!!

I have a few young(er) friends who go absolutely ballistic if some poor sod calls them "ma'am". Personally, I have been a ma'am since age 12 or so, and am happy to accept politeness in any form.

Generally, males call me Mistress, which I really do not care for, even though my SN on aol is MistressFrancine. I accept it as politeness, and ask them nicely to please call me Ms Francine instead. Out in the social scene, I just introduce myself by my name. I'm of the feeling that it's a level playing field out there until there are other relationships involved, and if the other party is happier with some kind of title, I will accept it, but it's not necessary until *I* decide that it is.

:)Francine

MsPurrmeow -> RE: a rose is a rose is a rose....or...? (9/8/2005 10:31:32 AM)

My name is Purr and that's what they need to use up until the point that a more solidified agreement of terms of the relationship are negotiatied. As for other pronouns, most use "Ma'am" if the need anything at all. The best way to get my attention across a room, though, has become an assertive "Meow" *chuckle* Not sure how or why so many pick up on that without knowing each other, but they do. I certainly prefer it over 'Hey You!' or even worse, the use of my birth name that even /I/ don't use.

I shudder when new people use "Mistress." That is a title for a negotiated relationship. I abhor pretention. I'm not a Goddess (although the term can be used affectionately within an intimate relaitonship). After a collar of ownership, I even like 'Master' or 'Owner', as I see neither of those as gender-biased. My position is not hinged on femininity, it's who I am.

In the beginning, it's first name basis, anything more than that is fantasy play.

SweetDommes -> RE: a rose is a rose is a rose....or...? (9/8/2005 10:55:29 AM)

We allow "Mistress" only from our collarred boys. Most often it's "Miss" - a few past potentials have used "My Lady" or "M'Lady" - and our newest boy calls me "Princess" (entirely his own idea ... mostly because he is NOT allowed to call me "Honey" and he keeps trying). He also calls me "Nurse Karen" and "Nurse Ratchet" (because that's what the woman who oriented me told the inmates to call me when I started ... that one irritates me to no end from him [:@] ). Basically, anything said in the right tone of voice is acceptable to us, although I do cringe inside every time someone calls me "ma'am" ...

imtempting -> RE: a rose is a rose is a rose....or...? (9/10/2005 8:00:50 AM)

I just dont see the need to call someone mistress etc. ( this is not entirly aimed at you )

I know they are,They know they are so why do we need to call it that??

Tradition some will say but thats a load of rubbish. If you want to go back to slave days of ole then you could kill a submissive without getting in trouble so if we start knocking off some traditions we can knock others off.

I find it more de-meaning to have to call someone mistress...It can only be used at home and it could lead to slip ups in public.....
