I never thought I would live to see this day.

A Black man and a woman running for President of the United States, and one of them
may actually become President of the United States.
I know this is not the first time this has happened, but it IS the first time either
one of them had a real chance of winning.

Putting politics aside {lol}, did you EVER think you would live to see this day?

Do you see the winner between Obama and Clinton, picking the other for Vice President?
President Clinton, Vice President Obama

OR
President Obama, Vice President Clinton

As a corrollary (sp), do people think there will be a substantial vote for McCain as a reaction to the Democrats likely choices?

Sad to say, I have thought that.
Damn, I don't want to even think that.

Philosophy:

That's the big gamble right there. I have my doubts about the american people truly having an egalitarian outlook.

Just when McCain seems like he would lose to a dead man...

Good question, Phil.  I think there are about an equal, small number of voters the Dems can usually rely on who would not vote for either a woman or a black man, regardless.  Those votes might not go Repub, but they won't show up either.  Hillary has the added burden of being widely despised personally.

It's a lot more pronounced on the Repub side.  Again, about an equal, small number of rascists/sexists would be motivated to vote against, but this is where the personal aspect really rears its head.  Hillary as the Dem nominee would be the greatest GOTV (get out the vote) tool imaginable.

Some how, I just don't see this as a historical moment. I never cared for the statement "First Woman to ____" or "First Minority Person who _____"

We're all people dreams, ideas, goals, and plans. I never doubted that a female or minority person can do what a male of the majority could do.

Frankly, I'll be more shocked to see an Independant President than I ever will be  seeing a woman or minority person in the oval office chair.

You may have a point there.

No, I didn't think I would ever see it.

I am actually hopeful for a Clinton/Obama ticket and that no violence occurs. That ticket would be in a tight race with McCain but I still don't think McCain will ultimately win the nomination. Huckabee picked up a lot of delegate stonight and with that will come money as the conservatives abandon Romney. Huckabee - McCain one on one in Virginia and Texas is not a good scenario for McCain. It may very well come down to Romney's delegates and how they're allowed to split once he's officially withdrawn. Ultimately I think tonight showed that McCain does not have any pull in the south which the GOP needs to win and Obama got out the vote down there in unprecedented fashion. Can McCain win the general election without strong support from the base

A Clinton Nominee taking Obama as a Running mate? Can or would Obama suck up the pride to accept and vice versa with Hillary?

That's a tough call and a risky move. Whoever gets the nomination, I suspect the running mate will be someone not well known by the mass populace. I'm thinking a State Senator, Congressman, or Representitive. A person who didn't even run for president.

Well if nothing else, this Presidential election is making history, and
is getting many involved that normally are not involved in politics.

How does President Huckabee sound?
I just can't fathom saying that one.

Presidend Huck?

I can see Obama as Clinton's VP, but not the other way around.

As for me...well there was a thread here about a British paper saying that if Clinton wins the Democrates Nomination the GOP candidate will win the election..and I believe that is what will happen.  If Hillary picks Bill for the VP slot..it will happen for sure.

I knew in my lifetime that we would see an African American ticket for the WhiteHouse.
I also knew we would see a woman run.
It is going to be a nail biter all the way down to the end of the Democratic Convention.
My answer to your question MzMia, is yes.

I'm not sure if she could pick him: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/10/19/AR2006101901572.html

Hilary cannot choose Bill as VP. Beyond 22nd ammendment issues they have the same home state and the POTUS and VPOTUS are not allowed to come from the same state, 12th ammendment.

Smart money says that assuming the Clintons haven't burned the bridge beyond repair that if Hilary wins the nomination she asks Obama to be her running mate as it gives her strength in the south and a popular running mate in traditionally GOP areas.

...I've always wanted to make a post like that, but I just can't do it without putting some sense into it. :-p

Oh, and I love the sound of it.  I'm going to be more realistic and get accustomed to the sound of "Vice President Huckabee"
