ORIGINAL: Lordandmaster The idea of Voltaire with a musket in his hands, trudging through the mud in his elevator-shoes, is pretty amusing to me. Don't forget that the pen is mightier than the sword, if the sword is very short and the pen very sharp (T. Pratchett). But, as LadyJC says, some very terrible things happened. Locking the bridge on which people could have escaped this nightmare means putting human lives below private properties : http://www.tpmcafe.com/story/2005/9/10/94823/6592 . There was something very interesting and very significant : Two pictures were published by Associated Press. Both showing someone back from a store with food, both making their way with water up to their chest. The legend of one picture said "walking with water up to his chest after looting a grocery store" (I'm re-translating). The other said "making her way in the water after she found bred and soda in a grocery store"... Q : Guess who was white, and who was black. And for those who say that the people left in NO were stupid because they didn't leave before the flood, when they were told to evacuate, maybe they should remember that it was the third time in one month that they were told to evacuate, and that each time it means spending a lot of money, especially for those who don't even own a car. So basically it's blaming them for their poverty.
