I believe all these opinions are being collated by The Man and the list of names for The Camps (inmates and staff) is a bit longer than it was yesterday.

I believe that Robert Heinlein was right: only those who have served a tour in the U.S. military should be allowed to run for president.  Reason: Those who actuallly served would be less likely to put others in harm's way.

People might have difficulty with my idea of an armored automated minigun turret every fifty feet along the mexican boder-featuring heat seeking targeting..and firing flechette rounds.

Alright, I just got in from work and this is already a REALLY long thread, so I am too tired to read it all now, I will have to tomorrow morning, but wanted to add Mine before it got even longer.  Because I have not read this, I have no idea if any of these are repeats, or things that will offend anyone, but off the top of My head:

I think that birth control is the sole responsibility of the woman, its her body, her responsibility, period.  I also believe that just like the woman has the right to not be a parent to a child by either having an abortion or giving the child up for adoption, I think men should have the same choice.  So, if a woman gets pregnant and wants to keep it and the man says right off the bat, he does not want it, I don’t think he should be forced to pay child support or anything like that.  I think family court is horribly basis and this would even it out some.  Keep in mind, I DON’T mean when a father decides later to be an asshat, I just think men should have the same rights as woman.

I think the death penalty is wrong and if we had it in Canada, I would commit My life to get rid of it.  Who is worse, someone that commits a murder because he could not control his urges, or one that commits them all the time for money?

I think cannabis should be legalized.  I don’t even understand why it is illegal in the first place. If a scientist went into the jungle and came out saying they found a plant that cured nausea, reduced anxiety, and helped aching muscles it would never be illegal.

I think anyone that is ignorant to immigration issues meaning the attudite of “just get rid of them all” should have to live in a third world country for a year.  After that, they will see that most will do whatever they can to create some kind of life for themselves and their children. After all, how many of you can say that your family did not immigrate at one point.  We live in the richest area in the world, if you have any money in your wallet, and some spare change in a dish somewhere, you are among the 8% of the richest people in the world.  Don’t be so fucking greedy.

I think people that commit hate crimes, should be forced to house with the group of inmates that match their victim.

That is all I can think of at this moment,,,but I may have more coming.

Edited cuz I am too tired to spell

Mandatory spanking for employees who surf collarme when they should be busy at work

I’m on the management side of things. If we’re going to introduce corporal discipline into the work place (it would increase productivity, that’s for sure) then I get to give the spankings.

And:

quote:

Oh, since we're on an age roll: raise the age of driving. It kills me that people can drive a vehicle at sixteen, when they're not allowed to drink until they're twenty-one. Where's the logic? It should be the other way around!

I believe that as a culture we are very cruel to our adolescents. We are a species that used to confer the privileges and the responsibilities of adulthood soon after puberty. Today we dribble the privileges and responsibilities upon them (a little here, a little there), delaying adulthood until the early twenties. During all this we send them the "official" societal message of "don’t have sex" while our media bombards them with the message, "you’re not cool if you’re not having sex." It’s no wonder they go a little nutso.

Okay. I know the above seems a little hard to reconcile with a "paddle their punk asses" policy but you’re just going to have to figure that shit out for yourself. Let me know if you do because I haven’t yet.

Controversial: but fair.

Whoa. Back up there, people! We’re talking about vandalizing punks, not me! It wouldn’t be that much of a controversial opinion if there weren’t at least a little hypocrisy mixed in.

Amen to that! The vast majority of people in this country are economic illiterates.

I believe that we all have our prejudices and it’s healthy to jokingly vent them once in a while but that it takes an conscious act of intellect over emotion to truly overcome them.

Meanwhile, veteran US presidential McCain (and war veteran that that, not merely a miltary veteran) wants to keep putting more troops in harm's way if elected, whereas his opponent candidates with no military experience want to minimize the number.

Denying a crucial bit of reality in order to explore what might result is a great way to get a science fiction story started. But I'm gonna agree with you that it'd be a controversial way to qualify a presidential candidate.

Let's talk political elections.

I belive the role of Vice President should be selected with one of the following methods.

1. The looser, or second place in presidental race, should be Vice President.

2. Vice President should be a race on it's own as Lt Govenors are elected in States.

i also agree with this and have thought along the similar lines of this.

as i very rarely agree with abortion

I agree with this and I think males who go around tossing their seed should be sterlized as well. Im all for population control.

You mean a citizen should have to prove they are responsible and show a sacrifice for the community? Pretty much what I said, but it should include other things besides military service, such as any of the emergency service (Fire, Police, EMT).

Oh sure, then the sore looser is just one bullet away from the Presidency. They actually did it that way in the early days of the republic but then, I guess, they thought it wasn’t such a good idea after all.

Actually, in _Starship Troopers_ the only reason only veterans were given the franchise was "it works". Heinlein explicitly rejected any moral superiority to veterans.

Well, there have been some good ideas, and there has been some incredibly goofy shit. All the goofy shit should be immediately adopted as public policy.

OK, I think anyone who advocates the death penalty for anything should  have to tour Dachau, Auschwitz, Der Haus der Wannsee-Konferenz, or the like. The Nazis achieved the reductio-ad-absurdum with their penalty of death for being a breathing member of certain religious/ethnic groups.

Abortion: Medical decisions are nobody's goddamn business.
Re-legalize Cannabis, the Major Sacraments, and opioid painkillers.
Eliminate Corporations and all other limited-liability organizational forms.
Prohibit lobbying of Congress.
Public financing of national-level political campaigns.
Healthcare must be not-for-profit.
Pharmaceuticals must be not-for-profit.
Establish system of Wellness Centers (preventive medicine)
Eliminate corporate welfare, which sucks up waaaaaay more taxpayer money than the rightards wet-dream "welfare queens" could ever.
Military for defense only; defense of the nation, that is, not Exxon's profits.
A serious national transportation network, utilizing such new technologies as Mag-Lev.
http://www.gluckman.com/Maglev.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maglev_train
Proportional representation.
Strengthening the UN so as to prevent more Darfurs/Kosevos.
Free secondary education.
Strengthening Workers' Rights.
"Apollo"-type program for alternative energy.
Revamping of building codes for durability and energy efficiency.
High-density multi-use urban planning.
National system of urban/community garden plots.
Mandatory free inoculation for cervical cancer.
Free birth control.

For starters.

Feric, a lot of people believe that and I'm one of them.
I think it would be much more preferable and usefull than electing people who did nothing but collected "degrees" for years.
And of course they would feel and have more of a sense of "brotherhood" with the Troops than someone who was in a "fraternity" or "sorority" and wore "funny hats."

As for me I have a belief that our government is obligated to enforce all of our laws. I'm really not interested in a candidate's "views" on this law or that law.
Just enforce our laws like they are charged to do!
That seems to be "controversial" these days!

I'd be more upset about the quests and the storyline.

Plus, if this is the human camp, I'm inclined to consider a different spawn point.

Health,
