Meeting other people who understand who and what you are, generally .. .I am a social animal

equipment that I don't have at home... like BIG dungeon furniture I don't have space for, I do havev play space at home but its not the same

Personally, I'm not a voyeur or exhibitionist, in fact, if I could be alone in a big dungeon space, I'd be happy -- but I do have the ability to block everything else out and focus on whoever I am playing with.

The whole public play aspect of it, really. I guess I can see there's an exhibitionist factor in that. Otherwise, I'm not sure I get it. I know you don't -have- to play or anything, and when my Owner and I attend one we won't... I'm just not sure I see what's fun about all of it. It sounds like a headache.

...OK, I sound so uncool. That being said, I'm open-minded about the whole thing...I just have questions and some pre-concieved notions.

There are some advantages to public play, depending on how you look at things. For a lot of people, the biggest one is usually the equipment. I don't have a lot of the things at home that I use when I go to the club. At home, I don't yet have a cross, wheel, or anything set up for suspension. I just have the one spanking bench, which some can tell you they've seen clip literally move one across the room while tied.

Exhibitionism is another factor. Always fun.

Public play can also be great for certain types of humiliation scenes. Having more people view said humiliation can be a huge turn on.

Long whips. Not something a lot of people do at home if they want to protect their favorite lamps.

Those are just some of the play reasons. That's not even including the social interaction, etc.

For us

1    We worked out it was better value to pay $500 per year for Gold Membership for the two of us and use the club's dungeons than fit out our own house with one www.bluafterglow.com/happenings.asp

2    Also we get into any event at the venue for free. Otherwise it would cost up to $30 each every time we go.

3    Private dungeon hire starts at $100 per hour here, so its not an economical alternative to our club where we can play for hours and hours.

4    We can go there at quiet times, when there's no-one there to watch, if we want to be intimate. Or hog a private room. Or go home early!

5    At public venues I get to play with really expensive equipment we would not buy for home, like racks, violet wands and vacuum beds.

6    Most of all, for me, playing in public is the best - and safest - way to meet and play with other Dominants, which I really enjoy, either with their sub, mine or some lucky volunteer if thats what we both prefer.

For example, I learned medical play from the best by volunteering to play nurse. And I am happy to give impromptu "hands on" lessons to brand new Dommes, if they are interested and seem nice (ie without the Newbie Domme Know It All Attitude

). Not only is it fun, many of these nice ladies are my close friends now.

7 We can play at home, but there's a special buzz for me in going out to play. I love the wicked energy generated by a good play party. It's great fun. You never know who you will meet and what you will see and do

After a discussion at our local Munch this evening, I'd recommend an EMP-safe space for electrical play that involves anything generating RF. Violet wands do that, you see. Advice from an experienced Dungeon Monitor reported the cost of three personal pagers and a watch that all bought the farm during a violet wand scene. If your cell phone gets a signal, then the RF from a violet wand will get out. Faraday cage is how you stop it...an easy means is to have electrical play space that's, for example, in a reinforced concrete structure. (Cinder blocks laced with rebar would do it.) Oh, and make sure you have isolated power source, too. In an apartment building, your neighbors may wonder why that have that big stripe of snow across the top of their TV screens.

A violet wand is based on the tesla coil (static) concept -- http://www.violetwand.org/tesla.htm. When the wand is fully functioning so there is static emitting, there is no RF field. The RF field is usually only present when the wand is technically "on" but not turned up high enough to produce static (it comes from the generator.) In fact, the frequency oscillation of a wand (the pulse of the internal spark going back and forth) is around 500kHz -- and from my ARRL background, that's the frequency where one used to find distress calls for ships at sea before the advent of the Global Maritime Distress Safety System. It wouldn't make any sense for that sort of frequency to harm simple devices such as a one way pager or a CDMA or better equipped mobile phone, so long as the violet wand isn't being applied TO or operated against one of those devices. In that case, the issue is caused by the STATIC charge and not the RF.

Light. If I'm playing or watching others play I want to be able to see without needing to get in the way.

Cleanliness, cleanliness, cleanliness, did I mention it should be clean?

Little or no music. I need to hear and I need to think. Your loud music may be great for dancing, but to be blunt, music and lighting were the two things that made not want to go to the clubs in NYC or elsewhere. Whenever I went I always ended up with headaches.

A place that is open during the week. Most of the clubs here are only open on the weekend. It would be nice to be able to go during the week perhaps just 1 day to start with and see how it goes from there.

- have them wear a tutu's and wings with glowing fairy dust and carry light-up wands as not to disturb play
Stocked Tool Box
Hydration Station - No one wants to drink city water
Healthy snacks
Decent equipment and lighting to enhance scene performance
- Disposable anti-wipes dispenser for quick clean up of equipment
Invest in sound proofing have separate areas for specific play, relaxing, mingling outside garden area
Immaculate Shower/Bathroom Facility

I just enjoy being social, and being in a public place where I don't have to pretend to be something I'm not. If I'm sitting with a D/S couple, they can behave like a D/S couple. It's nice.

And being asked to play is like being asked to dance--pleasant, harmless and flattering.

I would just like to see one in this area. We have a group, but not a club.
Now, the main thing I would like to see is private rooms for sexual play. I don't like seeing that in pubic.
I would also like clear rules upon entry. No Dom/mes abusing slaves in front of me.

I'll second the shower and the parking suggestions. The thing about openly having sex available rooms is that if you charge at the door you're considered a brothel. Unless you're in Nevada that's illegal so it sucks.

Seperate play and social space.

and the rules in the social space say that showing pictures of your kids or talking about your ex-husband's back surgery are not allowed. I get so tired of hearing about non-BDSM type stuff at parties that ruin the mood. That's what munches are for. Play parties are play parties.

A space to view the play and be politely quite is nice too...

As for why I like going...I like being out and open with people who are kinky. Who DO what I do.I enjoy the energy and it generally gets me going in THAT way. Do I have to have that to be in the mood?...Nope...I'm generally in the mood anyways...it's just ...comforting is the only word I have.

Well I do like to catch up with friends at parties REGARDLESS of topic.... :)

Free water, even if it's just ice water in pitchers from the tap. SPACE between the equipment sites so there can be a "voyeur valley" that doesn't interfere with the play. A coat check. QUIET music and good lighting.
