Well, "cum" is a lot older than ca. 1986. I can't find a slang dictionary that places it before the 1920's either, but I can't believe the word wasn't known in the vernacular long before then. In fact, I vaguely recall that Shakespeare once did a double entendre with it. I don't remember exactly. Anyway, I always assumed it was just an extended sense of the verb "come" (as in something like "come to orgasm"), but seeing that nominal sense of "come" as an essence of barley that you have to rub in order to extract certainly made me wonder.

from etymonline :

"cum : (v. and n.) seems to be a modern (c.1986?) variant of the sexual sense of come that originated in pornographic writing, perhaps first in the noun sense. This "experience sexual orgasm" slang meaning of come (perhaps originally come off) is attested from 1650; as a noun meaning "semen or other product of orgasm" it is on record from the 1920s. "

Google is my friend (sexual "double entendre shakespeare")
All you ever wanted to know about sex in Shakespeare (but were afraid to ask) :

There's a double entendre in "Against my will I am sent to bid you come in to dinner". Is that this one ? I don't understand what is the double entendre [&o].

Yes, I think that's the one. That's where Beatrice says, "If it had been painful, I would not have come."

Edited to add: Much Ado about Nothing, II.iii. The "knife's point" in the same conversation is a common metaphor for the head of the penis.

I think spelling and grammar are important. On this site they can also serve as useful tools to help me avoid the lazy and the sloppy. I think the time spent whining about one's inability to spell could be better spent opening a dictionary.

You are jumping to conclusions. i have an upstate NY accent and i can shatter glass when i whine. i only use my power for good, but still, whining has its place.

Hmmm I don't see a spell check. At least not here in this forum . this would mean I would have to go to word, check spelling (if it knew what I was supossed to spell in the first place) then if that did not work spend alot of time looking mis-spelled worda in the diconary(sp?) and that would klll anoth 30 mins, then cut and paste and worry if were correct or not.

I understand ya'll (sorry I'm an Texian) have you pet peeves. an that is fine. however when it is a forum kike this for those of us for whom spelling and typing is such a chore is comes across .... well... mean.

I have a 140 IQ but I have dislexia, it is a fight to type and a fight to spell. I have worked hard on it however there is only so much I can do. On a chat it is rude to make a person wait 15 min's for a reply!
It hurts to think just bacuse I type or spell badly I am discounted as stupid or badly educated.
I am none of the above.

Ojedieu you are not informing me or helping me by this thread you are once again as I have delt with my entire life with my disablity just caused many people, like myself who have many things to say be afriad to say them. I re-read everything I type and I correct what I can hoever we can only do what we can do.
My Father has a docoate and his spelling os worse than mine!

Yhe who;e thing seems very petty. No Actully just narrow minded , which considering out proclivities(sp?) makes us in the minority already. Like we don't already find like minded people hard enough.

beightspot Thank you!

You can go back to any post you made at any time and edit it. The editing need not be in the same session.

bj; your profile is so lovely. i hope you find happiness too asap. In the meantime, there is a fissure here btw P/pl who believe everyone should use proper spelling and grammar, and P/pl who think as long as the message can be understood it's fine.

i know about dyslexia and i know that even if you had some huge, unabrided dictionary, you'd still misspell words. So soilder on; the barbs about spelling and grammar are not meant personally, i do not think.
