Yeah, in my opinion, that universal health care plan (government-run) is reason enough not to vote for her.  But not so sure about the other choices, either!

...The sort of rude awakening where if you have an accident or need surgery, you'll actually get treatment, and before it's too late?

Oh, I forgot. We're only talking about the rich folk. They can get A1 treatment any time, any place. Stuff anyone who's poor. A universal health system which leaves some things to be desired is worse than no public health system, right?

I'm from Australia, which has a generally acknowledged 'worse' public health system than England. However, as someone on a disability pension who has really really needed it, I can tell you IT'S BLOODY GOOD. People complain of course, but we know we are sooooo much better off than barbarian America. I was horrified when I was in Thailand, thinking of how I would have fared with my illness without universal health care. And then a Thai guy I befriended told me that the recent government had changed it so that you could front up to a hospital if you needed, and just needed to pay 200 baht. That's about $5 - $6 US,  not a small amount for the poor folk, but really small enough to be able to cough up if it's needed to save someone's life.

Whereas in the US? You're buggered, mate. Absolutely buggered if you're poor, and in the US with its lowwwww minimum wages you can potentially work full-time and barely have enough to keep a roof over your head. If Thailand can get it together, why cannot the richest country in the world with an absolutely staggeringly huge budget to spend?

And I do believe Michael Moore's Sicko. Hilary Clinton... whatever, I don't care who wins from my vantage point as long as it isn't someone trigger-happy globablly - the US has the power to make Australia so much more insecure and threatened.

I agree. There is no point in wasteful spending on social engineering programs when we could be saving up all of our taxpayer monies and just giving it to Halliburton, Blackwater, KBR, ADM, etc. In fact, I no longer see any point in the pretense of payment for services and goods - that's wasteful too! We should stop doing anything else but just handing the money right over and into the accounts of the top shareholders of those corporations. There is no reason to expect value for our tax monies, if history has taught us anything it has taught us that. We should just fork it over and stop bitching about not getting anything in return. How dare we!!!

Presidents don't always get what they want. Their bills have to go through legislative system just like every one elses. Will the majority of Congress, Senate, and House vote yay on universal healthcare?

perhaps we just need some help with healthcare till the economy gets out of the rut from the last 7 years.
but face it the U.S is in crisis!

HMO's are getting rich and the middle to bottom income have little to no healthcare.

I don't like her or the idea of a government-run universal health care program.

I'm not entirely sure if people get this, but in order to get the same quality of medical care you do now, you'd have to pay the same in taxes.  Unless you're poor, then the quality may go up.  If you're rich, it'll probably go down.  If you're middle class, it'll be about the same.  If you still pay as much.  But that would force people who don't currently have it to get it, and it'll drain our already wretched budget.

So?  Most of us would be looking at more taxes and reduced medical service.

Now, "universal healthcare" for children.. that's a different story.  While I feel that, by adulthood, people should start being more responsible for themselves, I'm not quite ready to condemn children to the fruits of their parents' circumstance.

As a Canadian who pays for extended healthcare, I am quite happy to pay more in taxes to know that everyone at least has basic standard health care than to know that anyone (children, elderly and those with chronic illnesses) are going without.

What's the alternative, vote for McCain and get "free" healthcare anyway in the military when he brings back the draft and drafts people up to the age of 45?

How many people, particularly children have no health care?

Nobody in this country has "no" health care.  There is always health care available even if one is not making an appointment with a private doctor but waiting it out in a free clinic or emergency room.  I also know several people who are eligible for and receive health care through the state (My state) at no charge.  This permits reasonable access (AHCCS = Arizona Health Care Containment System and is, in fact referred to as "Access")) to doctors for regular care.  It is much more common that people realize.  And I am paying state taxes for that already.  That's good enough for Me. *shrug*
That said, I will assume you mean to ask "how many people in the USA are known to have no health insurance coverage".
Stats I have heard, on the news, in news articles and in speeches, etc. put the number at approximatley 46 million.  Don't know how many of those are children but given the current US population, I think that puts it at about 12%?  No info either on how many of those 46 million choose not to have health insurance.
That does mean, however, that approximately 88% of people have some sort of health care coverage.
My state is doing it fairly successfully.  There will always be problems, but I do believe that this can be provided and managed on a state by state level without forcing all to participate (other than via the lmore localized tax base)e unless there is a need.  So I am opposed to a universal (federal mandatory) health care plan.  Just one more example of the Feds butting in where they have no business.

Billary wants to criminalize healthcare.   She hasnt changed.  I make sure my kids had health care.   What happened to parental responsibility?  Why is other poeples children my responsibility?   Do I feel sorry for those kids - Yes.   But I don't feel responsible for the ilks of the world and the country.   It is called individual responsibility for ones actions (or lack thereof)

Yes our system in the UK has big problems; but I'd rather have it with those problems than not have it at all.

Some who are wealthier and pay for it, and some who work for certain companies here also get private health care too - in addition to state care which all pay into for. It doesnt have to be an either/or situation.

I am more for govt interfering in the sense that something needs to be done to make medical costs reasonable.  Then people could afford insurance and healthcare.

My daughter picked up a bladder infection one weekend and it got bad so fast she was bleeding every time she urinated and went to the ER.  So far to be seen, get a simple dipstick test has run around $1,750.   She talked to the Dr. for 5 minutes was billed for 45,  it cost $350 for her to sit on a chair in there and eventually get a little plastic cup to pee in.   The cost of the test was $59 and was done in about 5 minutes.

Reality check...nothing about that was worth $1,750.    That is why the healthcare system is a mess and people can't afford it.  The prices charged are totally unrealistic for what you get.

I am a small business owner who pays for a good health care plan and 90%+ premiums for all types of coverage (single/family) for my employees.

I want to make this as clear as possible. The United States way of health care is 100% broken. The three groups who control the cost insurance companies, health care industry and lawyers have zero interest in trying to change or even keep the costs down. The only fighting they do is amongst themselves for who get the biggest piece of the pie. Any other type news about them caring is fraudulent propaganda. I once had an insurance agent come bouncing in my door telling me my renewal rate for next years was very small only an 11% increase and they were happy because this was the smallest one they had gotten for a company. At that time we had not increase our prices because of market conditions in three years. For example seven years ago I paid $480 a month to insure a family. Today I am paying $900 and I know from talking to others that my rate is quite low.

Understand something we are already heading toward national health plan it is only how we want to go about it. Year after year wages are being affected. Employers are continuing to scale back plans, make employees pay more and not pay for spouses and children. As more and more people lose coverage, offered or afford coverage there will be a breaking point. Personally I cannot wait for this to happen.

We can stick our heads in the sand and go we do not have a problem but that is a lie. We do and most people here are already paying for it. Debate and effort for national health care can only be a good thing. At the very worse it would scare the crap out of the three headed monster.

None...

ANYONE in the U.S. can walk into ANY hospital in the U.S. and get treated, regardless if they can pay or not. I'm getting tired of the fallicy that everyone "needs" "health insurance" to get "health care", it's simply not true.

A question for you "universal health" types... How many of you make a living working for free?

More importantly, why do you feel that I need to help pay for your medical bills? I have my own bills to pay.

Ummmm folks who are anti- [universal] healthcare.
There are countries besides England that have it....in fact we are the exception rather than the rule.

And for most of the people who live in those countries it works very well.

You aren't going to make pie with the few rotten apples in the bushell are you?

How about instead of saying why it might not work, doing the research and see how it might actually be possible.
