ORIGINAL: wkdshadow How would you feel if the roles were reversed, and other countries were controlling the US Well now, that would sorta depend, Shad. Did these hypothetical other countries build our infrastructure? Feed us? Educate our doctors and engineers? Send organizations that build schools and health clinics for people that had never had such opportunities? Did they cover our asses during the Cold War, so our economy could be pointed to growth instead of feeding the military? Does their navy serve as a deterrent to piracy of our shipping? Do they allow us to emigrate to a place of far greater opportunity and prosperity and send millions of dollars every year back to the US to support our poverty stricken families? If they did, I can see where they might get peeved if we combined a big fat "fuck you" with an expectation that the goodies keep right on flowing. and steel our resources, exploit our work force ,pay for armed insurrection against us,supply and arm illegal armies and death squads that attack our people(Contras) and back coup attempts ,like Bush did against Chavez. Hey super patriots,...how would you feel about a country and it`s president, after they helped and worked with the people who tried to over through our elected government? Let's not forget, Chavez first tried an armed coup against the demo. elected govt. of Venezuela. Incredibly spent only months in jail and then led an armed attempt as insurrection. All the while the US supported the govt. of Venezuela. Chavez has been trying to be a blue-collar Hitler...intimidating the masses with violence and extortion to help him overthrow a demo. Venezuelan govt. Yes, the Venezuelan govt. has dirty hands but with the courts in tack and the rule of law still holding political institutions...Chavez becomes the enemy of the people...and anytime it suits him. The US never backed a coup in Venezuela....they backed the elected govt. of Venezuela before Chavez and his antics. ALL countries cease to remain a republic when there is no opposition and one allowed to freely operate. Please itemize...'stealing of resources' and 'exploit our workforce' and the others... Bush met with the coup plotters in the weeks leading up the coup.As soon as the coup took place and Chavez was ousted, the Bush Administration recognized them and the "new" government. Days later, when Chavez took back his elected, legal presidency,Bush had to embarrassingly withdraw his recognition of the coup plotters. A huge foreign policy bungle. http://observer.guardian.co.uk/international/story/0,,688071,00.html http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/newsnight/1985670.stm As far as itemizing, just read any history book on Pan-American relations. If you weren`t aware of the recent history that I linked to,why the curiosity about the other things I mentioned?
