I saw something on a bondage site they was advertising as a leather butt beater, I was wondering if you couldn't make this from tubing or something from home depo and for far less than fifty dollars.

Seems like to me like this is a take on a carpet beater. This is a very old thing in fact.

Here is some background for you:

What Are Rug Beaters?
Rug beaters, also called carpet beaters, carpet whips, clothes beaters, dust beaters & pillow fluffers, were in common use until the vacuum cleaner became affordable during the early 20th century. Carpets, rugs, clothes, cushions & bedding were hung over a clothesline or railing and the dust and dirt was beat out of them. Typically made of wood, rattan, cane, wicker, spring steel or coiled wire, antique rug beaters have become very collectible yet there are few sources of information about them - at the present time.

You probably could find them in little shops in Chinatown or in some Arabic stores. They are still used alot in the Eastern world. And trust me, they can sting like hell (depending on the beater itself and one's pain tolerance), so you might not want to go full force right away.

I have a friend who makes his own rug beaters simply by molding rattan (cane material) very inexpensive and easy to do (just soak the rattan to make it pliable) and you can make almost any shape you'd like. You simply treat them as you would a cane. Seeing the above picture made me think coating one in tool dip might be interesting and give a different sensation as well.

I love minds that are always plotting evil things! Great idea.

Hmmm, I was thinking maybe the food-grade plastic tubing (not the clear - this stuff is opaque white) like they use for water lines to refrigerators. It comes in different diameters, though I don't know how long one would last. But it is an economical alternative.

Thank you Lady A

Feline: I imagine the very flexible latex tubing (I've purchased this at a hardware store very cheaply) would make a good slapper if formed into a loop and given a handle much like the leather has been done. It wouldn't be as rigid as the rattan rug beaters or leather though I don't think. Heck, make one out of each material and you've got anything from warm-up to full-blown! lol

I can't see a gadget like this costing more then $15 in Chinatown... I'll check it out next time I'm there.

grins, It don't have to be as full force as the leather butt beater, but it'd sure be a fun toy to try to make.
