I saw an article how to spot a dominant from 10 yards away once. I was curious what you would say were the top things that you see in subs accross the bar, at work, and in social gatherings that seem to be a pattern. What do you see 10 yards away that would narrow the search for a potential submissive, or make you smile as you review the room and say "that person is definately a sub type".

Your thoughts?

To be honest with you, you can't really spot a sub 10 yards away. I am a slave and i have had people ask me in a bar one time because of my collar and i proudly tell them yes i am a submissive slave. They had nothing against it they said my Master is a LUCKY MAN

Sincerely andie and her Master Hal

How *I* spot a sub depends on a million things, none universal, some totally based on chemistry and intuition.

There's no clear way unless they have a sign on them that says "I am a submissive"

In two words, "fantasy wank."

In a kink environment, people give clues large and small about who they are and what they like, but in most of the world we live in, they have shields in place. Some of the most enthusiastic submissives I've known put out "in charge and liking it" signals out in vanilla.

This is also made complicated by the number of vanilla's who have adopted scene-type things like cuffs and collars as simple fashion statements.

This is something I have been bitching about for awhile. One of My friends, who claims to be knowledgable about fashion, still hasn't caught onto the fact that many people are wearing scene clothing, and have no idea why that big scary guy is talking to them, and glancing at their collar.

Hell, I made that joke to one of My friends over the weekend. Going to the local Goth club, and he wore the collar. Luckily for him and his fiancee, the other Doms thought he was Mine, and spoke to Me before talking to him.

It was funny.

Well, Me and My friend have what we call Gaydar. I guess that subdar works just as well. Over time, you start to pick up those little clues that someone will drop when their not fully into the scene, and, well, the larger clues will just slap you in the face. That, or your blind as a bat.

I watch for the small signs and disregard what they are wearing. How they stand and walk. is their head up and looking forward to meet the world on an equal basis? Do they have a slump and head down when thay walk as though hoping not to be noticed. Ok so this is not always a surefire sign of submissivness it may well be a lack of self esteme. Even those who are in charge and acting like they are, how do they react when confronted by a Master with his "Master Aura" flowing about him? Finally I trust my gut feeling. Nothing is 100% accurate but it does narrow the field down somewhat.

Unless I have my neon flashing sub sign turned on and pinned to the back of my skirt....oh wait shhhhhh I don't have one of those.

Seriously, I think when one wants to let it be known that they are a sub there are discrete and subtle ways to go about it. A tilting of the head to avert direct eye contact, the manner in which you hold your posture or address someone, and also the instant blush that warms you face if the topic is brought up, but in saying that, it can also be well hidden when needed.
I myself work in an environment where I need to have a "take charge" attitude. People are putting their trust and business into my hands and need to feel confident that I am going to do what needs to be done, and if that means coming off as a royal B. over the phone or face to face then thats the type of persona I have to take.
Spotting a sub from ten yards may not be nearly as easy a task as some may think.

I think it's very difficult, unless the particular sub is bound by specific rules in public places that she is bound by, or of course, if he/she wears a prominent collar. I think if it is a woman wearing a collar, it might go unnoticed, but a man wearing a collar, that would be close to a dead giveaway to the fact that they might at least be interested in the lifestyle.

Luvdragon and I went to a munch once, and besides the 2 women that were indeed wearing collars, it was virtually impossible to tell the Dominants from the submissives, and believe you me, I tried.

I really don't know if it's possible to spot a sub from a distance without visual cues, but I don't have a lot of experience in social settings with lifestylers. I personally would not be happy if Luvdragon acted "submissive" in a public place when I wasn't around.

i'm very very submissive, but i always walk with my head high, i will make eye contact if it's made with me and i will always meet eye contact with a smile, i've always felt that if someone is taking notice of me, i should let them know i noticed...i do however blush a whole lot..maybe thats my sign, i dunno

His "Master Aura?"

I wouldn't approach someone who was staring at the floor in a crowded room. I can only imagine what they would be like in conversation. Mopey, confused, lost, burdened. Yuck. I don't go out purposefully looking for submissives (or dominants). If I talk to someone for a period of time, I can attempt to gauge which way they might flow. The way they talk about themselves, look at me, engage in conversation...these are more interesting to me as a window into the person.

But you can't tell just by looking. Heck, most things can't be told from looking these days. You can dance all night with a woman in a club and it turns out, in the bright lights, she's a man (happened to me). You can spend oodles of time with a person, her about their concerns for political movements, environmentalism, and world religions, and find out he or she is only fourteen.

You can't judge a book by it's cover. This is true in every sense.

The subs are the ones in the T-shirts that say "Do you know where the Marketplace is?"

HOW TO SPOT A SUB FROM 10 YARDS AWAY

1. Look for professional signage stating 'Subway', 'Quiznos', 'Blimpies' etc.
2. If searching blind then follow the aroma of baking bread and spicy salami
3. Listen for the crinkle of thin plastic gloves worn by the sub makers

ALTERNATIVE METHODS

1. A periscope extending above the waterline is a dead givaway
2. Bleeping sounds on a sonar are helpful
3. Underwater wake of great power can also indicate the presence of a sub

May i throw in my 5 cents?
Just a funny ancedote: I met a guy (who actually is now one of my best friend for over 6 years) on a tattoo conventions i worked as piercer. I noticed his bettie page tattoo with a whip and we had a nice conversation about bettie tattoos and so. After a year he told me he was into bdsm, what was quit clear to me. After recognizing us our friendship got to a deeper point. The funny thing is that all this years i was completly convinced that he is Domme and his Wife is sub. A calm nearly shy lady with a soft smile. Well ist Mistress Marticia.....
Wonder over wonder.....

I work running a high pressure company, often making other blanche if not cry where they stand. I have never avoided another's eyes, am self-reliant and am proud of being such. And while subjects such as Domination and Submission have come up over the coffee-pot at work, there have been a few of my employees that have joked that I'd have to be the mothers of all Dommes. However, I am submissive to Him. He says he saw something about me that showed him my potential for submission on our very first "vanilla" date.

And I wouldn't want my personal relationships to be any different.

OK I must chime in... I am a submissive and most people would never know. I am the friend everyone calls Mom. I am the one people run too when they need some help or need to just spill there guts.

I also am a Mother of 3 so I have that take charge attitude. This is all in the open and out where everyone can see.

Under all that is the submissive women that when the door is shut will do whatever her Master tells her too. I leave all the worldly control of the day at the door and I am a submissive.

So in answer to your question You can't in most cases.
And the only thing I want to see at this time of year at 10 yards are cute behinds carrying a football down the feild to the goal.

careful

That can work for Women, but that's WAY too subtle for guys... go get some neon sign !
