But if the artist was actually trying to convey that it was Cleopatra, there would have been some symbols of Eyptian royalty (probably on the floor, disgarded as a symbol of the defeat and humiliation) and probably the other women would have been weeping - not looking on with fair indifference. Also, the robes of the man probably would have been the tunic of Roman Senator, with, I believe, a purple edge. I just don't buy it that the artist was trying to make this a picture of Cleopatra, or, if they were, they failed rather miserably.
