Owner59 -> Rove: Bad economy is "media`s" fault (2/15/2008 6:44:55 AM)

He recently blamed the Iraq invasion on congress,say that Bush was rushed into it,by congress.

Now this.

The comment comes at the end.

ROVE: "I think it’s principally. I think the economy — the media has been beating the drum for years and years and years that the economy stinks. And after a while, that begins to color people’s attitudes."

You-oo-ve got the magic touch
You make me glow so much
It casts a spell, it rings a bell
The magic touch

Oh-uh-oh when I feel your charm
Its like a fourth alarm
You make me thrill so much
Youve got the magic touch

If I go reeling, uh-oh, Im feeling the glow (uh-oh)
But where can I go from you

I didnt know too much
And then I felt your touch
And now Ive learned I can return
The magic touch

If I go reeling, uh-oh, Im feeling the glow (uh-oh)
But where can I go from you

I didnt know too much
And then I felt your touch
And now Ive learned I can return
The magic touch

or, perhaps, out of touch.......

        Considering people are coming to believe that 5% unemployment is some sort of economic crisis, I'd say Rove has a point, O59.  The media certainly isn't providing any comparisons to the double digit unemployment and inflation we had during the Carter Administration.

      Love your new forum ranking, Ron.

mnottertail -> RE: Rove: Bad economy is "media`s" fault (2/15/2008 7:04:39 AM)

Thanks Heretic.

I am unsure that the 5% has any bearing on the economic crisis.  And of the 95% that are working middle class and working lower class, working for 30 to 50% less than they were before Bush Reagan Bush (brb) is about right (never been there in the first place) while the old change back from a dollar costs 10 bucks for a couple of goddamn lousy hamburgers...............

That is the focus of some of the issues in my estimation.

Are you saying the media plays no role in public opinion?

The cable news channels are where people get their news these days. The media has major powers to influence.

Jeffff -> RE: Rove: Bad economy is "media`s" fault (2/15/2008 7:09:27 AM)

Also, if you have noticed, GNP is no longer used. GDP is now the standard. In the end there are still 3 kinds of lies. Lies, damn lies and statistics

I would say there is a huge disconnect between Wall  Street and the rest of the country.

aviinterra -> RE: Rove: Bad economy is "media`s" fault (2/15/2008 7:16:30 AM)

I think in about 3% he is right, the rest is the absolute fault of a govt. ( both parties ) that blindly spends away and is focused on the wrong track. We should not be looking to fix other countries while our own is falling apart on the inside.
As to the 5% unemployment rate. Those figures are quite skewed as they count only those individuals that receive unemployment benefits, which run out after a certain time. Thus the rate is omitting those that have officially "given up" on finding a job, those that do not qualify for unemployment or chose not to take it, and those that are in about a thousand other catagries, such as between jobs, in a crappy job that is like not having a job, etc.
The U.S. economic crisis was seen from miles away years ago, and now it is finally stepping in, and even as it does so many are still trying to make excuses and pointing the finger at others, such as Rove, who clearly saw the Iraq invasion as more important than the healthcare problems, lack of funding for social programs, and an infrastructure that is falling apart. Not to mention the dark cloud of social security on the horizon.

puffft..

Tell that to someone losing there home and then as fast as possible in the opposite direction.

The media beat on Carter pretty good over that.What`s your point,that the media did that one as well.lol

And who fuck`n remembers 25 years ago?

I think it`s the juxtaposition with Clinton`s economy that folks are seeing,being as it came just before this one.

Why don`t you compare the rate of economic growth,personal savings rates and personal debt loads,etc.,etc.with Clinton`s numbers?

Why? Because those numbers stink in comparison.

Fuck`n communist country`s economies are growing at 9-10-11 %, to our paltry 2-3%.WTF is up w/ that?

cyberdude611 -> RE: Rove: Bad economy is "media`s" fault (2/15/2008 7:24:07 AM)

The economy was actually much worse under Carter. You couldnt buy a mortgage with an interest rate that wasnt in double digits. Gas would be equivalent to $6 a gallon today. Inflation and unemployment were rising. Carter made many, many mistakes. The GOP could have ran a rag doll in 1980 and still won. Carter's economic policy was an absolute disaster.

And if people only care about the Clinton economy....why isn't Hillary getting a boost from it? It seems the more she talks about the 90s the further she sinks in the polls.

People are smart enough to know the Clinton economy was fueled by the Tech boom. It had little to do with Clinton's economic policies.

Poor(yes, there is such a thing as the working poor),working class and middle class wages have been flat(ie. not gone up) for the last 6-7 years.

With inflation,that amounts to a real pay cut,every year.

Is the media not supposed to mention this?lol

What,just STFU?lol You`ve gotta be kid`n.

For those who aren`t suffering or who aren`t living hand to mouth,try at least to not look down on those who are suffering.

Count your blessings and at least acknowledge that not all good hard working Americans are as fortunate.

DomKen -> RE: Rove: Bad economy is "media`s" fault (2/15/2008 7:35:44 AM)

The media invented the sub prime mortgage scam and the burst real estate bubble it caused? You've got to really love the GOP playbook:

1) Blame the 'liberal' media for everything
2) Equate Democrats with communists
3) Be afraid, be very afraid
4) Reagan!!!!!!!

Rich:
I thought you were a more astute businessman than that.  Depending on the location 50% to 60% would be more realistic.
Then of course there is Newport beach Ca. where Nick Cage  just sold his home of three years for ten million more than he paid for it.  At $35,000,000 it is the most expensive home ever sold in Orange county.

Exactly, thus the disconnect. Being employed at a shitty minimum wage job is not a good economic indicator.

well at least 5% of the population has risen above that station in life.

Carter made many, many mistakes. The GOP could have ran a rag doll in 1980 and still won. Carter's economic policy was an absolute disaster.

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ok, if that`s so,what were those mistakes?
Be specific.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It was the Arab oil embargo that did the damage.

When the price of energy doubles,triples,everything cost more.It costs more to make,finish,produce goods and services,the cost to transport goes up.The cost to heat,light,cool and run our buildings go up.

Oil drives our economy and it`s cost is a major factor.

Carter just wasn`t willing to invade, or threaten invasion,coup attempts,black ops,etc....like republicans seem to do.War for oil wasn`t part of his moral compass.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Carter also didn`t increase our national debt by 4 or 5 times what it was,like Reagen did.
Carter was a decent honest man,something that gets eviscerated in Washington DC.
His strategic oil reserve,solar bank and alternate energy development plans,mandated fuel efficiency standards,etc., were forward thinking and good policy.
As soon as Reagen got in office,he removed the solar panels from the white house and killed any effort at making us less dependent.
Anyone remember how the Japanese cleaned up on the small car market?How Detoit was caught with it`s pants down?They still haven`t recovered.
