and the recent
recergent of Superman, Batman, I was wondering
does anybody feel that they ever made a better remake?
 
I do not want to see a remake of one of my favorite films called "Silence of the Lambs."
Anthony Hopkins was the bomb.

Status: offline 		Off the top of my head, I can't think of any that are better but I can think of several that I didn't like at all. The Manchurian Candidate, for one. War of the Worlds, for another. Oh...almost forgot about The Thing.

Status: offline 		I can't think of a single remake that I liked better than the original.  In fact, I have friends with kids that saw the remake of Willy Wonka, War of the Worlds and others first and then saw the original and they liked the originals better.

That one was a remake by John Carpenter.

The original was black and white, came out in 1951

Status: offline 		lol  Yes, there was a remake of The Blob done in the late 80's... had Kevin Dillon in it, the original had Steve McQueen, came out in the late 50's

The Kurt Russel "The Thing" was the remake, and I did not care for it.  The origninal "The Thing" had James Arrness as The Thing.  I have a copy of it.  I have never been impressed with remakes of movies. It seems the writers can't come up with an orginal idea so they go to what did work.  I will correct myself, there is one remake that I and so many do like, "The House of Wax".  I don't mean the recent one with Pairs Hilton, I mean the 1953 one with Vicent Price.  Yes, that was a remake of the same movie done in the 1930's.  The 1930's one was set in modern time while the 1953 was set in the 1890's.  Barrymore played the villian in the 1930's orginal...but if you ask me...Vinney did a better job.

Man does it piss me off  .

Yeah, the original was made in the late 50s or early 60s. It was lower budget but not cheesy at all. One of the few really good SciFi movies from that era. Kind of understated and also pretty goddamn scary in a couple spots.

Wow, that's the year I came out, too. More Thing trivia: The real name of the film was The Thing From Another Planet, I think. But no one called it that.

Omigod! What if they try to remake The Day the Earth Stood Still??? That would suck. If they even think about it, I bet Gort will reduce this planet to a burnt out cinder.

Funny that you mention Silence of the Lambs. In actuality, Red Dragon was done as a movie and bombed it's first go around.

So in the 90's, they went back to the basics and decided to make Silence of the Lambs first and then remake Red Dragon with Anthony Hopkins. 

At any rate, I can understand and agree with remaking certain films. Who would have thought that Oceans 11 would have turned out being so great it's second go around after its original made by the Rat Pack?

Meet Joe Black was also done very well against its predicessor Death Takes a Holiday.

I am Legend with Will Smith seems to be a big come back from the Vincent Price original.

The new Al Pacino version of Scar Face was fantastic even though the original Scar Face was set to be a New York ganster theme back in the 30's.

However, some movie classics should always remain to be unchanged.

Rocky Horror Picture Show

The God Father

Star Wars

Status: offline 		I actually liked the John Carpenter version of  'The Thing' over the old 1951 original.  I do think most remakes aren't really meant to remake the movie.  They are sort of tributes to the old ones, or the retelling of a story.  I admit that a lot of them are pure shit.  But saying that it is not right to remake a movie, is like saying we shouldn't allow women to perform in Shakespeare's plays because that's not how it was originally done.

Status: offline 		The Fog remake was a HUGE disapointment!  i liked Rob Zombie's Halloween, and still love the orginal.  Also the remake of Chainsaw Massacre was good.

i can generally enjoy both the original and remade versions of movie, though of course there will always be some remakes that are horrid.

(christine, yesss Steve was pretty damned hot back in the day )

Status: offline 		I happen to think the remake of Psycho was done very well as it was intended to be a Triubute to the late Alfred Hitchcock. ShowTime remade The Birds but I was not that impressed with it.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was a tough one to call. After reading the book, I can better accept the new version. Besides, Johnny Depp and Tim Burton had me hooked since Edward Scissor Hands. To me, they can do no wrong. I'd rather enjoyed the last Legend of Sleepy Hollow version.

Johnny Depp in HELL was the best Jack the Ripper movie I've ever seen. I liked it better than the one staring Michael Cain.

Status: offline 		I think most people don’t like remakes because the original takes on a nostalgic aura. We watch the originals in our younger days (there we are in the theater with our friends, jacked up on Jolt cola and Milk Duds – life was good) and so they takes us back there when we watch them again. A remake doesn’t have that nostalgic aura and so seems like a cheap copy in comparison.

I’ve never gotten around to seeing the original version of The Thing but was in my teens when the John Carpenter version came out so to me that is the version (damn near jumped out of my seat when Norris’ chest opened up and ate the Doc’s hands – and you just got to love the "spider head"). If they remade it again I would probably be dismissive of it.
