I am having trouble with these people from 'INTL Gateway' calling and calling and calling. It is driving me up the wall. They NEVER leave messages on my answering machine and the caller ID always shows up as them calling from a different but local number. They have called directly for my mother and my mother specifically told them not to call anymore. And what did they do? They called again, today on the weekand. I picked up the phone and told this guy to 'Take us off your calling list and stop calling us! This is harrasment!"
And the guy whoever he was , was extremely rude to me saying he could do what he wanted, and that he wasn't interested in me anyways , that he wanted to talk to my mom.
I told him that ''You already talked to her, and she told you to stop calling as well''

The guy proceeded to talk over me many times and finally I got so pissed I said ''Fuck off already or I'm going to get the police involved'' and hung up. The idiot called right back again. I'm just so iritated with these people. They call every single day now. We don't owe any Gateway people any money either......

Anyone have any ideas how to get these iritating people off our back??? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Honestly?  I'd get a phone line recorder.  When they call, flip it on and immediately inform them that they're being recorded (edit:  and make sure that they agree to it, as wkdshadow has a good point).  Then use that tape as the basis for a harrassment suit.. I'm sure some lawyer out there would be glad to work for just a split of the profits.  (Not legal advice; I'm not educated in legal matters.)

Alternatively, I'd say, yeah, sure, call the police.  Claiming to work for a company isn't protection against harrassment charges so far as I know.

Edit:  Actually, if you can get a copy of your phone bill with the call records on it, that may be worth it before you go to the police.. just so you have a lil more support.  Not that it's necessary, but you know.

Log the information with dates, times, and phone numbers. Then contact the the phone company and ask them how to proceed. The police might be another approach, but I'd call the phone company first. Chances are good you could actually press charges of the kind you already would seem to imagine. A lawsuit would also be possible most likely.

Beware of recording the conversation. I believe Florida is a "two party state", where you must inform(and the person must agree) to the call being recorded. Failure to notify the person is a violation of wiretapping laws.

Put your number on the Federal Do Not Call Registry.  And read up on their complaint procedures and other information there.

Yeah, it's against laws governing telephone solicitation, to do this.

But I wouldn't be at all surprised if the phone company or the fraud division of the police department discovered that this is not Gateway calling.  I'd be surprised if Gateway did business this way.  There're a lot of scams involving people impersonating representatives of a business or a charity.  They probably hope that they can pressure someone in your household into sending them money or giving them private information that they can use.

I used to have somebody calling me repeatedly, claiming to be selling tickets for a charity to benefit police and fire department personnel.  Fortunately, I hadn't sent them anything by the time I realized that they weren't really affiliated with police and fire.  Who would run a scam involving those two groups, anyway?!

First, you need to get yourself on the do not call list.  That will clear out a fair bit of it and it's an easy Google for those with a bit of sense.  You'll still be fair game for pollsters, fundraisers, and those that are simply ignoring the law.  I suggest you break them off script immediately by asking if it's a marketing call, inform them your are on the registry and then disconnect.

You are under no obligation to be nice.

If they arent  listening to you constantly, warn them that you are not happy, and will take further steps, then every time they call ......answer then blow a whistle down  the phone, loud enough and long enough that they call you a f***** bitch, then hang up. DO it every time they call.    meh someone may make it "illegal" to do that eventually but they are infinging on your privacy and time
There is a thing you can do, type the number into google search, it will come up with either their name and number, location etc( for legitimate and not so legitimate businesses/telemarketers.)
I hate the bastiges, take their name, number, time etc of call to back up your self
another group of people I should be allowed to zap with a cattle prod, sighs
Lucy
and yes Ive made cold calls before but never more than once per number, I hated it and got out of it quickly

The next time they call just speak in a "foreign language" that you make up as you go.
"Halloooooo!"
"Disha fleegla casa deesh tu?"
"This is Gateway."
"Ahhh, haaga frishda packla fro?
"Tu keesha meo hiney?"
I do it all the time for those pesky phone calls.
Or, if someone calls trying to sell my vinyl siding I tell them I live in one of those log houses.
Replacement windows? "Oh, Pal, you should have called 4 months ago, I had the whole house done!"

We don't have caller id, so I don't know if this is the same people, but several times I have answered the phone and the person asks for "Sinesia." The first time, I said, "Who?" as I had never heard that name. The person repeated it and added a last name that sounded equally weird. Then he spelled the name, and it was my roommate's name, which happens to be Cynthia; her last name shared only the first letter with what he had said. I said there was no one here by that name (true, as she was at work at the time). Subsequently, when they have called and asked for Sinesia, I have told them they had a wrong number, and hung up.

We get the same thing, people from bank of americal calling week after week day after day trying to sell my dad some protection plan or something. Finally one day I said he's told you to stop calling if you have legitimate business with him you know how to email him.

We've turned the phone to ring twice then the machine gets it, and it's cut out a lot of having to tell people to go away. It still rings and the machine still picks up but we don't have to deal with any one.

only thing you can do...change # and keep it unlisted.  you can block his # but there's ways around blocking it... courts will do fuck all.  even if something could be done by the courts what will happen? probation? 2 months in jail? $100 fine??  it would be too small and would cost you more $ than changing your # and having it unlisted.

i have a cel phone...no land line...i get no calls from company's what so ever.  the only people who call me are my dr's and my family.  i get the odd wrong # but its the same person cause the # he's calling is 1 digit off mine.  happens about once a year.

there is nothing you can do.  sorry.

i just changed my number. i got calls to the prior resident even tho the phone was in my name.  1. do not list your phone to a street adress.

NOWW i am getting computer calls formyself as well as the person who last had the number. you can complain. you can try to sue. dont bother.no one ever wins that.

a cell phone that is disposalable could work

OR- the phne company has this service called "call intercept" the caller  must announc the name to get thru....

on the sueing thing- a lawyer costs $200 an hour, so dont bother.

i did see a blurb- if your phone plays that  do-da-doE, per the out of order tone that can tell the computer the line is out.

Unfortunately they have to trace your phone first which you must pay the cost of.  I know this because some telemaketing company called my fax number repeatedly for weeks to the point where it was interfering with my business.  The telephone company couldn't do anything until I paid for them to trace the line, which wasn't cheap.  I ended up changing the number which also was a pain, but I talked to quite a few organizations and there was no solution that would allow me to pursue the company without me paying money and it ended up taking up so much time that I just gave up.  All of my numbers are on the do not call registry by the way.  Their procedures also still require proof.
