All depends one if i have a say in the music , if not i just go with in myself and make the music playing white noise and block it out .Many times at public spaces I do not have the luxury of spinning my own tunes .
It also depends if i am Topping or bottoming , or in subbie mode ,perhaps doing corpral ,Or doing a whip session etc .I love to make the music fit what it is i am doing at the time , Like when doing rope work or mummifications , or suspension i would not play metal ,or a faster harder edge type music , something like the soundtrack from 300 or vanhelsing , or interview with a vampire perhaps .Now if i am doing an intesive spank otk type exchange AC/DC with some kashmir ,maybe some older hair band tunes .Music for me sets the tone and mood or atleast helps it along , so its all dependant of the activity i am seeking at that time .And with hunders of cd's to pick from i have made several mixes like that . A cutting mix ,depravation mix ,anamilistic mix etc . if you do not dig the tunes your hearing you can always use your own personal music system too, also great for a depravation trip ,ear phone and headsets come in handy .
