So... Shibari? What do you guys think?

I have to admit, up until very recently I just sort of looked at it as a very pretty, mildly erotic art form - but not much else. It never used to do anything for me in a real "kink" sense... it never turned me on or appealed to me on any sort of sexual level, but the more I think about it, the more I'm finding myself attracted to the idea of it.

It was Fetish Night at Coffee, Cake and Kink last night, and I went along with a few friends. We'd been there for a while before I noticed a woman on the far side of the room tying a man up in some of the prettiest Shibari I've ever seen. We all watched her for a while, then we made our way over to chat to her and ask her where she learnt to tie like that. We'd not been talking long when she'd offered to give us a demonstration by tying a couple of us up. Me and a friend ended up bound together, face to face, watching her work over each others' shoulders. It was a lot of fun, looked very pretty, and felt really good.

She didn't tie us very tightly, since the place was closing in 10 minutes, but I enjoyed it a lot... it made me think about how incredible it would probably feel when tied tightly. I do have a huge kink for being very tightly bound... that feeling of squeezing and compression. It seems Shibari would be absolutely amazing for that. :D

So I just wanted to ask you guys what you think of Shibari? Does it do anything for you? Do you practice it? If so, how long does it take to learn and master that kind of thing? How long does it take to tie a person securely? Do you practice it more as an art form, or does it really press your kink buttons? Or both? I find it fascinating.

My Mistress uses Shibari on me from time to time i like the tightness of it and the way she pays so much attention to the rope detail..being so even around my body.
One of our nicest sessions to date was when she tied me in this manner and then bent me over the spanking bench so i was unable to barely wiggle and then gave me a sound caning.
The combination of the tight rope and cane made for a very erotic and intense session for s both.
i hope you get to experience it some more.

So I just wanted to ask you guys what you think of Shibari?

I find bondage GENERALLY goes into two camps- those who use it just for practicality's sake to bind someone down quick and dirty so they can get onto other things, and those who enjoy the bondage for its own sake as a scene/kink in itself.

I fall more into the latter.

On a very much beginner level myself, but yes.

Well it's one of those things that you can take lifetimes to learn and still grow more.  But if you seriously practice and seriously attend to it for a year or so, you can have pretty much all the basics down.

I love it, but don't know that much about it.
When I was a kid I fell into LA's first class of people, bind em down so we can get to the good stuff.
I liked cuffs and chains and things that are easy to get in and out of quickly.
But as I have gotten older, and less impetuous, I have begun to see the artistry involved, the slow build that can occur or the wat that rope can be a wonderful thing.
It makes me wish I had been a boy scout and learned to tie knots.
It also probably next on my list of things I am going to learn in BDSM.
After that suspension bondage.

Little did my mother know when she taught me to macramé. *chuckle* I should tell her that. She'd get a kick out of it.

Sad to say like so much of life, at an advanced age I am still paying for my misguided youth.
I spent last week learning calculus, that sucked. but yeah, the shibari thing is getting sexier as I grow older.
I may have to do some learning under a local expert.
Now I just need to find one..

I absolutely love shibari, but unfortunately have had it done to me only twice in my life.   Feeling all of that rope around my body was the most incredible feeling, topped only by the visual.

Love Shibari, both doing it and having it done on me. Am only a beginner, I tend to like to be creative with it rather than replicating particular ties exactly. One of the fun parts is tucking vibes into the ropes and just allowing the vibrations to slowly spread through the rope network ... mmmmmmmm!

Shibari is essential beauty and erotic stimulant for me. I love a lot of japanese art, that one is very near and dear to me. Since many years i belong to the Shibarinetwork, a worldwide mailing list, that was founded by Matthias Grimme, where shibaristis from all walks of life exchange informatiion and tips. The very special atmosphere is created through a mixture of professionells (as in earning their livelihood with rope) and amateurs.

Rope and binding, in every possible way is part of my life since i can renember.

My submissive fiancĂ©e gave me a shibari book for christmas, and I've been happily tying away since.  Favorite thing I've made so far is a rope corset with a chest harness.  *Incredibly* easy to make, but you need plenty of rope.

Totally recommend http://www.rainbowrope.com/ for high quality, inexpensive rope.

ok a few things if i may

the term Shibari, is a term westerners have adapted for most pretty rope work, but the truth is there is a school and phlosophy to shibari that is spacific, and i dont know much about it, but it has to do with the type of the rope, the balance of the ties, and the mastery of the work as an art form.

80 year old shibari japanese masters feel uncomfortable with the word shibari master because they dont feel that they have mastered it.

what we in the west do is japanese inspired rope work...a term that is being used (because the folks that do real shibari were offended) is ShinNawa Do, the new way of rope.

this is what you see when you watch the Two Knotty Boys, Midori, and Lee Harington ect...

i highly recommend Lee's book, not just because i serve the man, but because he makes it fun and easy, the idea being you dont have to be a great master of the art form to enjoy a fun adventure with your partner....good pictures, easy to intricate ties.

rope has its own sensuality. rope is restraint and then some, rope is a meditaion, and wordless communication with yoru partner, a dance of connection....

my experiance with rope is that i start flying when i begin to be tied in rope, each time i am wrapped i fly higher and go deeper, i enjoy the power i feel in ropework, there is something very sexy about hanging in something your lover made just for you, so that he can do what he wants to you, or that he can just watch you...

yes it really pushes my kink buttons to be in rope...and to put my lovers in rope.

Pffft. I was married to an eagle scout. He couldn't tell a maple sapling from an oak. Certainly couldn't tie knots...What we need here is a Bosun's Mate!

For a LONG time, I had an envelope on the back of my office door. It was the overnight envelope that my first husband used to send me (the expected and desired) divorce papers. He'd spelled my name wrong. I highlighted it and put, "THIS IS WHY!" in big letters on it. This was after 10 years of marriage.
