So nobody likes labels, except for me. i LIKE labels. Its how i organize my bookcase. Its how i organize everything. Its how when i look in my head, i make the pieces fit into the overall puzzle. i like specific labels, heck i label things as i see fit. My book case has hardbacks and paper backs and tall books, short books, and books about this. Yes and i look at these books, and i SEE its got a hard back and i say to myself, that there is a hardback book. Its label has a definition to me, and easy one that most others would agree with. i've language books.. and they go in my "language" section. Never had anyone disagree with me about my french books being labeled wrong and in the wrong section. Some of them do have multi lables, multi layered laybels. "Hardback, non fiction, parenting, tall" "paperback, tall, fiction, stephen king"

And i group things together and i know PRECISELY where it all fits. Where it goes. Top shelf and second from the bottom shelf. i even group my sections with other LIKE things. As in my gambling books arent near my reglious books. LOL

i label everything in life this way, to a point. My dishes, my animal cabinet, whatever. People too and even i. Most dont like labels, but i do. Call it a personal prefence, but i do think that most have some sort of "labeling" that goes on in their head. Person walks down the street.. its a male.. goes in the male group and so on.

Problem is. i lost my label. i NEED my label, its how the world goes round and round in my head (ketchup too) And if you dont like labels, thats fine, not asking anyone to live how i live.

i mean i'm like Dominant with the other slave, not really a slave, but a slave with Master, alot of vanilla interaction, but with alot of slave rules. i just dont know quite where i fit. i am confused. though i doubt many others have this problem, i thought i'd throw it out there anyways.

Labels used to be easy. I was Wolfs slave for the last 17 years (OK 17 years next month)

Then I found the net..OMG I got confuddles.

Now my most accurate label is
Owned dominant Masochist...

The main problem with labels is some people forget they are labels and think they are the thing itself.

You, on the other hand, seem to have a good grasp of the subject.

It's nice to here someone else admit they need (and like) labels. i'm a secretary -- been one for over 30 years now. i keep my office and home files neatly labeled, in order, even cross reference some -- can't help it.. it's not really an obsession (honest!! LOL), but it's there none the less. i find that one of the things i miss about having a Master is that extra touch of order a Master gives me..but..that's neither here nor there.. (btw..do ya ever feel like Dr. Suess..lol)

HEY LIKE LABLES ARE REALLY IMPROTANT FOR EXSAMPLE IF YOUR IN THE KITHCEN AND NEED SALT, HOW DO YOU KNOW IF YOUR'E TAKING SALT OR SHUGAR? THE OLNY WAY TO TELL IS TO REED THE ALBEL

Labels are good for getting an idea of something- a general understanding. The problem is when people try to make them into more than that.

Amusing of course is when someone doesn't like labels...since that IS a label in itself.

Hey Em - don't y'all going labelin' me an' pickin' on me now!

I don't like labels other than being a guide. Like Em said, all they are really is a guide - to get a bit of understanding on something. Nothing more than that. As long is someone is what they feel they are and want to be or achieving and being true to themselves - doesnt really matter what flavour your tomatoe soup is...

You didn't lose your label, RiotGirl. What that label entitled you to merely changed. You are still who you were, just a little different. You are still sub to master, you just added the label of domme to a slave.

You can always TASTE!! I hate labels. They never even perfectly describe the thing they are supposed to be, they just give you hints. But then again, I live with constant chaos. Never a dull moment.

For my fifth birthday this cute girl named Kara Anna (or wait...was it Erika?) gave me some stickers and erasers that were laced with some kind of chemical that was supposed to make them taste and smell yummy.

They made me puke for about three days.

Hello, I am sultry and I am a labeler....Help me get over this addiction...lol...Yes, I do label..not everything, mind you but enough. I have a large closet with those plastic bins stacked inside, each is labeled with everything in them. My toy bag has a list inside so I know and can make sure I retrieve everything that is mine..I know, I know, it's bad...

Labels are necessary to a certain extent. They give people a general idea of who they are interacting with, in the first place, or whether or not they wish to interact at all.
I am female. Am I a lesbian female? Am I a bi-sexual female? Am I a straight female?
I am Dominant. Am I sadisitc? What is My style of Domination? Do I seek slaves or submissives or no one?
All of these things are further defined by us (or should be) in our profiles.
These "labels" tell someone whether or not to approach Me, and if they do, perhaps even how to approach Me. At least it's supposed to work that way. When labels become set in stone or used to stereotype and generalize, we get into big problems.
Perhaps it is the word "label" that is tripping everyone up. So maybe we should just call them "descriptors"?

How about multi-labeling?

The drawer in my credenza is labeled 'post-a-notes, notepads, labels, stickers, staples, push pins, file tabs'. I also have paper clips and white-out in there but it's not on the label.

My own 'label:
dominant slave, mother, PTA volunteer, leather crafter, bootblack, Group Event Coordinator for local dungeon, co-owner of Fantasies In Leather, sometime Top, leather girl, chief bottle washer
