Just started reading "Pandora's Daughter" by Iris Johansen.
Not an author I normally would have picked up, but someone left it at work, and I'd run out of other books..LOL

I'm reading the Harry Potter series just because I can only handle mindless easy reading for the time being.  Th Other Bolyn Girl is next on the list.

I love books.  I love the feel of holding one in my hand, and turning the pages. The written word appeals to me in so many ways...

I just finished reading "The Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follett.  What an awesome book! Not being an architect, or an expert on the time period, I have to assume that he did at least some research into both subjects.
Not only did the story appeal to me, but I was impressed by how he was able to impart info about the processes involved in the building of the cathedral in a way that made it interesting to me.  And (again, I'm no expert..in fact my knowledge of the era is quite limited) the politics and depiction of daily life had an authentic feel to it.

I cant wait to get my hands on the sequel!

What have you read lately?
My father gave that to me when I was 15 to read, all I could think was jeeeeez a book about churches?? Since then I've reread it several times, it is one of my all time greats.Other greats:Charm School by Nelson DemillePower of One by Courtney something-something maybe Bryce? lol Recently I've read the LA Banks vampire/otherworld series againValentine series by EE Knight, very very cool future-survivalist seriesJefferson Bass, he created the original body farm in Tennessee and has begun to write fiction, way cool stuff.Honor Harrington series by David Weber, fun space opera.Another group by an author named 'Sunny' but I cannot see the titles from here lol.

I much prefer The Sleep Book.  A must find for fans of the Doctor.

I was just cleaning under the bed, and found A Breath of Snow and Ashes by Diana Gabaldon, which I had forgotten I was reading. I know she's no Doc Suess, but love the whole Outlander series.

Th Other Bolyn Girl is next on the list.

I think they're just now putting that out as a movie, too, with Natalie Portman, and Scarlett Johanson.

I just saw a commercial for that the other night...so excited.  I love those types of movies.

I've been having a hard time concentrating on reading lately for some reason.  I did finish The Kite Runner, and found it to be a great read.  I'm working on a Sue Grafton, T is for Trespass - good for light reading.  I started The Falls by Joyce Carol Oates.  It's a national bestseller and NYT 'notable book' but lordie, I can't get into it.  If I can make it through a few more chapters, I think it's got potential.  The story is intriguing, but the writing is slllloooowwwww.....

*edited for spelling... oops!*

Text books.  Scholarly journals.  Seminar notes.

Reading does get tedious at times.  Still, what's more exhilarating than gaining understanding?  Well, besides truly kinky sex.

bipolarber -> RE: what have you read, lately? (2/19/2008 6:47:08 PM)

This month? Let's see, first I re-read "The Tempest" and "Romeo and Juliette" by Shakespeare, because the local 'fest is doing them this summer. (I'll be doing props and set peices for them)

"Illegal Alliens" by Nick Pollotta and Phil Foglio. It's a sort of american version of HHGTTG, a science fiction comedy, in this case about first contact, and Earth's desperate attempt to become a part of the "galactic club."

"Checkpoint Lambda" by Murray Leinster. Written in the mid 60's, it's a sort of science fiction version of "Die Hard." Good two-fisted adventure!

"Mars Crossing" by Geoffery A. Landis. Written by an engineer involved in the latest spacesuit designs, the book is about a stranded expidition to Mars that treks o quarter of the way around the red planet to reach a possible return vehicle. Except one of them is willing to kill to extend the supplies... Very tense!

"The Vampire: His Kith and Kin" by Montegue Summers. THE definative volume on vampire myth. (and a bit of a test of my flagging Latin skills) Still, facinating stuff. Leave Hollywood far behind... this is the real deal!

"Distant Wanderers" by Bruce Dorminey. The story of the scientists involved in the search for exo-solar planets, and the techniques they are useing to detect them.

"The Art of Richard Powers" by Jane Frank. An art book based on the title artist, the man responsible for all those surreal science fiction book covers from the 60's and 70's. Brilliant images! The man ranks right up there with Geiger and Dali, IMHO.

And if I can finish Distant Wanderers, I'm still planning on taking in a couple of "Usagi Yojimbo" graphic novels. (Samuari Rabbit) I'm also planning on "World War Z." Which several friends have recommended.
