Status: offline 		......purely out of interest, how much television do people watch?
i have the set on most of the day, tuned to the news channel........other than that, i doubt i sit down and watch an hour a day.....

Fox News mostly with Discovery, NGO, History. A lot of sci-fi and Spike.

NCIS and CSI

Status: offline 		Mine is on all night -- to CNN-- for sleeping. Never watch anything else unless there is a specific movie that someone has alerted me about. Oh and I turn on the weather channel for such handy dandy information as "another 6+ inches of snow expected," which has been occuring rather a damn lot, of late.

Status: offline 		The tv is on early morning while everyone is getting up and out of the house, in the background. Normally I watch tv as we are eating early evening for an hour and then between 10 and 12 midnight, but we usually watch at least one prog we have recorded on the DVR(Tivo)
Used to have it on in the background but now my tuner sotware has screwed up, i listen to my music.
At weekends, it depends .....I usually keep an eye out for the space channel, history channel, TLC and discovery and record anything that looks interesting. We have many hours of recorded stuff that we will get around to seeing some day.

Status: offline 		Almost none.  Did away with cable a couple of years ago, and don't have any rabit ears that seem to work.  I do have some shows on DVD that I watch when mindless entertainment is in order.  Getting rid of cable was one of the smarter things I have done.

Status: offline 		A couple of reality shows and The O'Reilly Factor I watch pretty regularly. Sports and the occasional movie or concert at times. I like to watch as I practice my guitar as well.                                         But more than likely I am listening to music on my surround system or watching a dvd, rather than watching tv.

Status: offline 		forensic files, the first 48, i go to sleep with something like that on every night....in the am i watch the news when i am getting ready for work.....and when i get home....judge judy!  i love her.  i guess if i ever disagreed with her, id find her a bitch, but so far i havent ever done that.

i avoid anything labeled "reality" like the plague.....if i could find some old bugs bunny/roadrunner toons, id watch them as i wake and bake on a weekend morning.

and when i can stay awake long enough, i love house....i mostly catch up on it in the summertime when i dont go to bed by 8 pm though.

Status: offline 		If I am home by myself it is quite often turned off. If it is on, usually one of the following channels....history, national geographic, AMC, travel channel, Turner Classics, animal planet on occasion, or some sports crud.

I will either watch something educational or a movie.

Status: offline 		It's on most of the day here but in another room.  Keeps the dogs from barking at every single outside noise.  Occasionally I walk past it and usually get a chuckle from the infomercial the pups are watching.  It's ok though, I didn't give them their own credit card as I didn't want my dogs ordering hair growth/anti-wrinkle/make-me-millions-at-home drivel.

Status: offline 		It pretty much is always on. If I am home alone it is tuned to a news channel or I am watching my programs from that glorious invention, TIVO. If Master is home usually on a sporting event of some type is turned on.

In general I would say I watch 2-3 hours of TV intently a day. Probably half news and half fluff.

Status: offline 		Philo, we have a tv, but no aerial which means we don't watch television. As it doesn't receive broadcasts it acts as a large monitor for us to watch our DVDs on when we fancy a film now and then. It was a conscious decision by us not to watch any TV, my mother, like you, has her tv on practically all day/evening and my ex hubby was the same - the noise does my head in, I need peace and quiet. I had Sky Digital put in for my folks so can't help but be exposed to it when I visit/stay overnight with them. If I actually do want to watch anything when there, it's the discovery/history channels (perhaps once/twice per year.

That's pretty much the effect television has on me as well. Drives me batty out of my belfrey. Especially in the mornings. I'm particularly adverse to the commercials.

I hate commercials with a vengeance. If I watch a program that has commercial interruptions I'll flick the channel to something else. The rebel in me refuses to sit there being brainwashed. Otherwise, I switch the sound off: it's instructive to watch the drivel without the noise.

Gawd I hate tv lol.

I'll flick through the television pages in newspapers and turn the tele on if there's something decent on. Last night I watched dispatches which was about the credit card crunch (to be honest, I fancied a laugh at the expense of those credit carded right up to the eyeballs - 'truth be told, it was fuckin' hilarious) and it basically said a) the economy is fucked b) those with credit are totally and utterly bollocksed c) Northern Rock is going to look like a tea party by the time the year is out. Then I watched Kamikaze - I didn't realise the British had a fleet in the Pacific - it gave accounts from all angles and was definitely worth a watch. It's unusual for me to watch 3 hours of television in a day.

I'd say something like 5 hours a week on average.

If Sky didn't own the cricket and boxing, I'd watch a lot more tele - and I'd rather go to the pub and have a beer to watch the football than sit at home and watch it.

The history channel is decent but I exhausted it about 4 years ago and there's only so many "Churchill: The Messiah"'s you can watch before wishing you didn't have a tele and/or throwing the thing out of the window.

All in all, the tele is useless.

Status: offline 		I only watch "TV Shows" on DVD, or through bootleg streams hosted somewhere in China. Other than that, it's strictly the odd film or documentary on public broadcasting (no commercials), and because I'm Canadian and it's my birthright, Hockey Night in Canada and my beloved Trailer Park Boys.
