My Gracious taps my nose, while 'chirruping' to wake me up.   Amos does 'swim turns' off the bed when she decides it's time for me to wake up.

Ok first, I think my boxer is very similar to PP's -- right down to the U-shape running, overly-flaulent, cone-eating, furniture-consuming goofiness.  I do love the crazy mutt even though she makes me crazy at time.

My brother breeds brindle purebed boxers and IME all boxers are like that. Boxers, big strong boxers weighing close to 100lbs., seem to consider themsleves lap dogs and seem unable to recognize big galoot paws to the neck, eye or crotch aren't pleasant.

Well raised boxers are amazingly protective of whoever they consider family but otherwise quite docile and friendly, if not more than a little loud.

He frequently brings me one of his breeding femals for the first week or so after one of the others have a litter. The mothers are very agressive even with adult daughters and sisters they've known for years and it simplest to just get them over to friends and family for a few days. So periodically a 90 lb. boxer comes over to stay. My big goof kitten walked right up the absolutely frantically glad to see me boxer found itself nose to nose with a boxer 10 + times her size. The kitten reached up with one paw and swatted the poor old boxer across the nose, turned around put her nose up in the air and sauntered off. The poor boxer was quite cowed and had to spend a long while draped over me being reassured. The next morning I awake to what should have been an empty bed. I however found a large boxer splayed out pushing me nearly off the bed with my certifiable kitten curled up nose to tail right by teh boxers chest. From then on they got along famously although I think my kitten was making fun of her every time I took the dog for a walk and had to put its booties on.

Just goes to prove it. Dogs have owners, Cats have staff.

My cat has this fascination with water.  When I first got her, she would immediately jump on the counter when I turned on a faucet.  She would stare wide eyed at it.  Not to long after, she refused to drink out of bowls.  So, now I have to let the kitchen faucet trickle water for her to drink.  She lets me know by sitting on the counter and meowing as loud as she can.

Her fascination with water also included the toilet.  One day I came home to find her perched on the toilet seat....peeing.  I couldn't believe it.  I didn't teach her to do that, she just figured out what the toilet was on her own.  She still does it from time to time, but she also still has a litter box.  She likes to have options I reckon.

LOL, my cat loves TP.  that same cat has a thing about my rugs, every time i leave she goes around and folds all the rugs in half, and no, she is not peeing on them. today my daughter was just standing at the kitchen sink and the cat for some reason walked in and flung herself at my daughters leg and attached herself with all four paws, claws out, to my daughter.

My pit would belch in my face lovingly and when she farted, that dog could clear a room! Also had a 12 1/2' Burmese Python that had the run of the whole house, he would come to me when I got home from work , crawl up, rest his head on my shoulder and watch tv with me. during commercials he'd breathe in my ear to get attention, but when the show came back on, he was all business...lol

eyesopened -> RE: Critter stories (2/23/2008 4:06:16 AM)

soul2share -> RE: Critter stories (2/25/2008 4:49:55 PM)

My last dog, Shiloh, was a hoot!  He always had a cat for company, and they'd start out as kittens....he would try to play with them, and he was so gentle with them....he seemed to know that as they grew up, he could play rougher with them.  The cat I had when I lived in Tulsa was a HUGE tom cat......he weighed in at about 22 lbs, and Shiloh came in at 54.....they could trash a house better than any teenager could, and they did it about once a month.

His favorite for of "attack" on Buzz was to wait until Buzz was sleeping, sneak up on him and grab him by the head, literally.  Then Buzz would wrap himself around Shiloh's neck and hang on.  But Buzz was just as evil...he'd wait until Shiloh was asleep and jump on his head.......scared the living crap outta Shiloh every time.  So, one day, it's springtime, the patio door is open, Buzz is outside working on his suntan, Shiloh is inside the house, I'm cleaning the bathroom.....all of a sudden, I hear a woman screaming bloody murder that someone is killing someone else and hollering for help.  I almost kill myself running out of the bathroom to see what is going on, and apparently, the lady next door was outside sweeping her sidewalk, and Shiloh grabbed Buzz by the head and started shaking him....she was beating the bushes with her broom, and the two of them are sitting there looking at her like she's some sort of lunatic!  Apparently, she thought Buzz was a hapless little kitty that wandered onto the patio, only to have this dog try to eat him.  I expalined that they lived together, but she still didn't look too sure about Buzz's safety.

My one cat I have now, KB, is the one who wakes me up when it's time for breakfast, or lunch, or dinner, or dessert, or just if he's plain bored......he has a whole bag of tricks...he knocks things off counters, he'll walk across my pillow, stepping on my hair right at the roots....big time OWWWW!....sticks his foot in my ear, and occasionally, he'll meow in my ear.  He seems to know when I set my alarm clock for a different time than normal, and wakes me up exactly 30 minutes prior to it going off.....however, he has also saved my butt from being late to work when the alarm didn't go off!  He's also a great mom to his little brothers.....strangest thing I've ever seen.  The babies are sweethearts, brothers, but each with thier own personalities.  Smooch is my little lover, Boo is my little independent kitty.

I have as many stories as I've had pets.....grew up with a real menagerie.....had a Saint Bernard that used to love playing with my rabbit....neighbors thought she was going to eat him, but they were great friends!  Another Saint treed two classmates of mine who were teasing him....he pulled the leash pulley out of the garage wall.  I happened to be following them and saw the whole thing.....the closest branch to the ground was about 11 feet up......I don't think their feet touched the ground once they realized that a furious 185 lb dog was coming for their asses!  I left them there with the dog sitting at the bottom of the tree and went in and called the police.....this was about 30 years ago, we lived in a small town.....left them there til the cop arrived.....that was the LAST time they even walked up our street!  Loved it!

OMG, LMAO..... I could only wish my cat would use a bat. Instead, she doesn't even do the polite, cute "excuse me, could you wake up now" bit. I just get a big fat whaaaap upside the head and if I don't get up fast enough, the second one has full claws extended. I get no mercy whatsoever from her.

I should have discovered this thread ages ago with my zoo.... (cats, ferrets, dogs, a rabbit, an attack hedgehog.....)

oh! i forgot merlin-kitty!

we got merlin when i was on bedrest while incubating the younger imp.  he and his sister were kind of young but they were happy...till night-time.  freya would go sleep with the older imp, and merlin would go into stealth mode.  now...you cant have a cat jump on a full-motion waterbed and not notice.  but here he'd come...sneaking up from the foot of the bed.  sneak a kitty-length, pause...sneak, pause...

till he got in between wolf and i, and found wolf's earlobe.  then he'd latch on, sucking, purring like a chainsaw, kneading the pillow.  then would come the flying lesson.  out the bedroom door, and onto the couch.  this was generally a twice-a-night floorshow.

once the imp arrived, the kitties made laps around the crib. oh, not on the floor....on the rails.  freya slipped and fell in once, and jumped right back out and looked at me like "crap, didnt mean to do that!"  they never got in the crib, but they did stand on the arms of the rocker and check the imp out.  [:D]

I want an email from Ellen's cat. That's so cute!

Funniest story with my late golden retriever. Took the kids to get an ice cream. Left the windows open while we're at the window. We're standing around eating and talking to friends and look over to find a crowd around my car. Dog moved from the back seat to the driver's seat, and is perched there with front paws on the steering wheel.

She loved car rides and got into the car at all opportunities and wouldn't come out unless you took her for a ride. Since I live up a mountain with a long drive, she spent a lot of time being driven down to the mailbox and back again.

Her greatest moment came when she drove off a visiting bear. It was at the back door, all 400 pounds. She threw herself against the door, over and over, growling like a wolf, all her fur standing up on her. Especially brave because she was terrified of bears, wouldn't go out if she could smell them, would stay inside with legs crossed desperate to pee until the smell disappeared.

I have a dance pole in my living room. I also own two dogs ...

The other day I was playing around with my pole and had my hair in a pony tail. My dogs have this game where they chase each other in circles around the pole and as I'm basically flipping myself upside down, they start running around and around and around.

I told them to go to bed ... One did ... The other grabbed my ponytail in protest and started playing tug of war with my head as I'm upside down against my pole. I had to hang onto the pole with my feet and use one hand to support myself and the other to keep the puppy from yanking out my hair! It struck me as so funny because I had the window to my balcony open and I'm sure people across the way could see what was going on ...

The more I laughed, the harder she pulled ...
