Hello dc nice to see you. I have to confess to the fact you are more likely to get hit by a dart I throw if you are standing a long way from that circular thing hanging on the wall. Soon though my darts skills will be world class all I need is a powerful magnet. [8|]

Hmm. I suppose one who lacked skills in the game would need that sort of edge in order to play well. [8|]

One of the basics taught in the English language is that any form of the word lie always refers to an untruth.

Poppycock.

....

A simple way to remember the rules of lie and lay is to substitute the word of which you are unsure and use 'recline' in it's place. If recline works, then lie and it's various tenses are correct.

Nice little lesson Celeste.

Here's a useful one for you which I hope helps: it's so easy to confuse correct usage of "it's" and its other form "its". Many people just think that apostrophe "s" shows possessive form. But of course it doesn't always - sometimes it indicates a missing letter!

And you've made the classic error of getting the wrong form. So "it's" is short for "it is" while "its" is the possessive form meaning "of it".

Confusing isn't it. (Or confusing is not it).

Of course your usage is not poppycock, but it's wrong and it's so good to get things right. Hope that's helpful.

There's an increasing amount of profiles that show a basic lack of understanding of what one might do and what one is.

Could it be a slightly more educated Nigerian scammer, with sets of better stolen pics, who is behind this head-shaking increase of those saying they are "a dominate"?

Tsk tsk.  Or, are our schools really getting this bad?

Anyways, rock on.

Maybe it's all that damn immigration lol :D

'Lie' and 'lay' are synonyms. Just like 'while' and 'whilst'. Just like 'lie' and 'deceive'. 'Lie' has more than one meaning.

Sorry, no, they are not synonymous. "Lie" is a verb that needs no object. "Lay" as a verb needs an object. You have to lay something somewhere.

Then there are the tenses of the verbs to further confuse. The past tense of "lie" is "lay" and the past tense of "lay" is "laid."

Somebody shoot me and lay me in the street so I can lie there peacefully.

I have no tolerance for spelling errors if it appears in an advertisement or profile.  If you expect someone to RESPECT you, I think you need to set an example.  If your best effort is sloppy, than I doubt I would ever trust you to guide me.  Now, an occasional typo is to be expected, but I can certainly say I would never be interested in "a dominate".

could you ever consider an dominant, perchance?

Maybe it's a "Domi"-nant that's preferred...I'm sure Domi would say as much.

Wait.  He's unmuzzled.  Let him say it his own ghetto self.

I can see most of your points that you've made so far but it seems to me that some are pointing out that those who are posting profiles are calling themselves Dommes or Doms and yet really aren't. But I see the opposite is also true that those who are professing to be subs or slaves are really not wanting that.
They want to tell you that they really don't have time to do real time or they don't have time to do simple homework or projects. Yes, they have been given simple tasks w/ plenty of time given to them based on their profession and work schedules.
Yet they don't want to do any work but want sex as a reward during play. I also have met plenty of those who are just into BDSM for the sex (not my idea of what this lifestyle is all about).
Just my 2 cents worth ...

I confess. I am, in fact, Nigerian. But you gotta admit, it's a helluva makeup job.... [:D]

Thank you pointing out the typos, Sundowner. My fingers often get ahead of me and I admit to being lazy but not ignorant as was the post to which I responded. I stand by my thought that the statement to which I responded was poppycock with no basis in fact.

Your interest in grammar is noted.

Only on the internet would there be such hysteria over one misspelled word.  I couldn't cut and paste the ad via Firefox so I typed it quickly by hand and made the error.

The 'I'm a dominate' thing drives me batty.  I could make some good extra $$ editing profiles online.  lol  It's just a pet peeve, and I don't judge someone based on one or two errors, but I also wouldn't write to someone with tons of mistakes on his profile.

Maybe one night we could all get together and diagram some sentences.
