Ok.
This is going to be messy. But let me try.
I know that ther are absolutely NO absolutes. But, what if you were to really try to write a book of rules for the life. What in your mind would be most important, least important, and the notso important "must haves?"
I see lots of posts in here on various topics that generally come down to what are the rules of; being a sub/slave, dominating, etc.
Let's say that between us on CM, we have been charged with writing a rule book. BTW Noah... I think it should be 2 nudies for every toy, and 1 "money" as profile, lol
Any way, so as to give a thread dedicated to the one twue rule book, I took it upon myself to begin a thread on this topic. I did a VERY quick search on this and found everything to be disorganized. So I stopped looking.
I would love to see real answers, sarcasm welcome, but I would like to see what everyones individual idea is on their own version of rules, and maybe as a "community" come to some sort of consensus as to what they could be, if generalized enough to "fit the mold." I expect the rules are different for each person, so I will be taking the time to look at each one and see what of each one could be gleaned and reformatted to within/out context be applicable to the whole. I would love to see, as a continually evolutionary input, a listing continually edited on OP a list of What It Is That We Do handbook... lol I know I have not perfectly expressed my self here, so any ?'s feel free.

1. Honesty in all things for me. If you don't like that, I'm sorry but it's your problem. (I've been burned extremely bad - anyone want the gory details, feel free to ask privately, I don't mind sharing. Just not on an open forum.)

Rule 2. Communication

4. Communication. If we don't talk, it ain't happening. And if we don't talk honestly, it REALLY ain't happening.

Rule 3. ALL new subs MUST submit their profile to me, and make their presence before me to... approve the validity of all and any statements made in thier profile.
Rule 4.

Rule 5.

i would have one rule.  There are no rules

Rule 6.

2. Limits. Yep, I have them. If you don't like 'em, again, your problem, not mine. I'll respect yours (even if you don't claim any), you respect mine. Some are self-imposed and hard, some are open to education and negotiation.

Rule 7.
quote:

3. Tolerance. You may not like me and I may not like you and thats ok. But don't slam me because I'm not slamming you, I'm politely ignoring you. Thankfully I haven't had that happen here yet.

Are you adding my rule to your list, or suggesting my rule is number four?  Because for me, my rule is number one, and only.

There may be other guidelines I generally use to approach things by and certainly rules for specific situations.  But when it comes to living life- that's it.

FYI, LA and all who post. I will "ADD" rules as I see fit. (when I have time) I will over the course of time edit and rearrange as I see fit to organize. If any one wishes to discuss prioritization, plz feel free. Keepeing mind that I would like to have several before going into that type of editing.

Oooo, good rule! Doesn't apply to me at this current time but it would be number one on my list if I was owned because that would mean that all the others had already been met. [:D]

I don't like rules. I like compliance. Rules and structure limit my "creativity" making me a slave to a slave.

One of the most important chapters in the book would explain the ultimate futility of attempting to live a rule-based life, in or out of "the life," (a term which paints over far more than it illustrates, for me.)

The futility of rules for an application like this is self evident if you just look carefully.

To follow a rule (rather than your own judgement, that is) you must know when this rule applies and when it doesn't. This isn't an incidental fact. This is an aspect of how rules operate.

To decide when to invoke rule A you must either use your judgement (abandon the rule book) or call on Rule B, which governs the application of rule A.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

Asking for a complete set of rules is like asking for a triangular circle. A circle is necessarily non-triangular. A set of rules capable of prescribing how to do WIITWD is necessarily unattainable.

Once we understand the ultimate poverty of rule-based living we can proceed to apply rules in the modest and circumscribed ways in which they can surely be helpful sometimes, if you ask me.

And you did.

Thats a damn fine way of putting that sentiment. I feel the same way.
The problem with rules is they tend to bind me as much as the other party.
Plus they sometimes bring out the lawyer in everyone. Then it becomes a loophole competition which I abhor.
Compliance is nice, strictures even, but rules, I am really careful about laying them down.

EXACTLY the input I was searching for. TY.  I was hoping to make a real book of "rules" So as to indicate the sillyness of rules, while still giving insight to some of the understood (by most) guidelines.

And there is always the temptation to use them as a coping mechanism, rather than relating in a fluid manner. Rigidity is a characteristic of dead things.

It does not take careful consideration, It only takes a simple questioning, WTF?

This Posting upon further editing. Your own "Book" that apllies directly and significantly more to your own set of circumstances/ethics.

TemptingNviceSub -> RE: The Rules (2/23/2008 10:25:59 PM)

It seems to me that most problems stem from 3 rules already mentioned that crop up frequently..Communication (seems to be a good credo, however many seem to have the most difficulty with that!)..Honesty (seems to be hard due to the fact that many times in our days we tend to be less than honest to have our life go more smoothly ie:Yes boss, I am working on that as we speak, or...no problem, it's ok I did not like that vase anyway, when your best friends son knocks it over..things like this..)and face it..then you have those with hidden agendas, Dom and submissive alike..and as LA said being true to yourself, some seem to think if they behave or act in certain ways, that it will attain them that which is being sought, and hence not being true to who they are, and then the incompatabilities set in when the facade cannot be kept up..(refer to honesty again)..So I guess I can simply add, Respect for each other and their contribution to the dynamic...Tempting

celticlord2112 -> RE: The Rules (2/23/2008 10:27:14 PM)

No rules....just a few concepts...."truths" if you will.

  • Consequence is inevitable
  • Choice precedes action
  • Control is an illusion
