God, how do you narrow the vast feild down? Star Wars, the attack on the Death Star... the "rollercoaster shot" going into the trench still thrills me right down to my toes! (and the opening sequence of ep IV still blows me back into my seat) I was watching "The Birds" the other night, and the sequence where Tippi Hendren is trapped in the phonebooth during the bird attack on the town... The opening of Saving Private Ryan... Ingrid Bergman pulls a gun on Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca, and realizes she can't pull the trigger, spinning Richard Blaine off in a direction that leads to the single best movie ending in cinema history. The Wizard of Oz is revealed to be a little old man behind a curtain, but who is wiser than all of our main protagonists and points their attributes out to them. The shower sequence in Psycho. (Has anyone else come close to creating a movie moment like that?) King Arthur and his knights attempt to enter the French fort by building a "Trojan Rabbit" The swordfight from "Princess Bride." Superman saves Lois Lane from a helicopter crash atop the Daily Planet building. John Hurt asks Jody Foster, "Wanna Go For a Ride?" A priest walks up to a set of three, hovering, manta ray-like machines, in an attempt to make peaceful contact, touching off one of the most spectacular battles in a science fiction film. Sean Connery strapped to an industrial laser cutting table. Avatar the wizard deals with his evil brother. "I'm glad you changed your last name, you SOB!" Frank Langella attends a dinner party in "Dracula." The weather shifts in L.A. Story... Klattu rises from the dead and gives his sermon on the mound, in The Day the Earth Stood Still The Thing bursts into the room, and is set on fire with a bucket of kerosene, and a berry pistol. Another Thing changes in a truly horrifying way while pretending to be a scientist having a heart attack in the remake. (Followed closely by the earlier sequence where it was pretending to be a sled dog in a pen.) The doors of the Sulaco slide open, and Ripley clomps into the scene, ready for her ultimate battle with the creatures that have destroyed her life, and threatened her (extended) family. "Get away from her, you Bitch!" There are thousands of these....
