They're also the symptoms of bipolar mania. Which I have every single symptom of...unlike borderline.
Symptoms of mania - the "highs" of bipolar disorder

HealthyPlace.com Radio
Bipolar Disorder, ECT, and ElectroBoy
Our guest, Andy Behrman wrote the book ELECTROBOY: A Memoir of Mania. Andy discusses life as a manic-depressive, the trouble it got him into, the impact of his treatment - including 19 sessions of ECT (electroshock therapy) and how he feels about being bipolar and the stigma of having a mental illness.
listen with windows media player. audio table of contents here.

  • Increased physical and mental activity and energy - hyperactivity (Scheduling more events in a day than can be accomplished; inability to relax or sit still.)
  • Heightened mood, exaggerated optimism and self-confidence (A sensation of sheer and utter happiness that nothing - not even bad news or a horrifying event or tragedy - can change.)
  • Invincibility - The person feels that nothing can prevent him or her from accomplishing any task.
  • Excessive irritability, aggressive behavior - particularly when grandiose plans are thwarted.
  • Decreased need for sleep without experiencing fatigue
  • Grandiose delusions, inflated sense of self-importance (Individuals imagine that they have special connections with God, celebrities, or political leaders.)
  • Racing speech, racing thoughts, flight of ideas (Ideas that abruptly change from topic to topic expressed in loud, rapid speech that becomes increasingly incoherent.)
  • Impulsiveness, poor judgment, distractibility
  • Reckless or risky behavior (Reckless driving, outlandish spending sprees, foolish business investments, or out-of-character sexual behavior.)

and there is no way your hip bones are going to show unless you lose like another 150+ pounds.

strangely enough, i do have a large bone structure, my hip bones are less than a quarter of an inch below the surface...yes, that is still a nice layer of fat...but 90lbs ago that was at least 6 times as thick....people in person are always shocked to feel my hip bones when they press on my hip with their finger tip...

nice try honey...not all large people are fat....

and how do you explain the fact that mood stabilizers stop my mania, if it is not mania?

And at 285 lbs, you are morbidly obese...if that doesn't mean fat, than what does?

at 5'6 and 285 lbs, you would have to lose AT LEAST 135 lbs to be considered a healthy weight. 150 lbs is the MAX weight you should be, with large bone structure.

OP...stop feeling sorry for yourself and do what you need to do make yourself happy.  nobody can change you, only YOU can.  if you want to get thinner, then do what you fucking need to do to get thinner.  if you want to become emotionally stable, then do what you fucking need to do to get there....YOU are the common denominator in your happiness and well being....deal with it or get lost.

yes, it was stupid fucking edited!

I see my psych np Friday and I'm hoping she will prescribe something for my anxiety and racing thoughts. I hope there is something that will stop the constant "don't eat, you're a pig" and "you're going to gain weight" etc... thoughts so that I can eat more easily...

personally, the best thing i have found to stop negative racing thoughts is to replace them with other things by doing things like reading positive things or listening to positive music...because, i don't know about anyone else, but when i take something away from my thoughts, if i don't replace it with something else, that original thing will come back, whether it seeps back in or comes rushing back in like a freight train...but if my mind is already on something else there is no room for it...and if i get to make the choice of what i am thinking about it works out a lot better than just telling my brain to "stop it"

Noramlize your life.

Let me explain something about the world to you:  People are stupid.  This is a grand truth, so don't fucking ignore it or think it to be some sort of vulgar insult.

We exist because we can.  Life evolved because it can.  Organsims which happen to be us were viable enough to exist in some manner.  The "normal" manner is roughly and typically the most effective, so far as we can tell, for reasons we have only vulgar guesses for explanations for.

The doctors, for all their psycho babble, are only guessing.  They went to med school.  They have a check list of things from researchers who've been making guesses to match you up with.  They can generally catigorize you with others who have somewhat comparable conditions from the perspective of the doctor, and they're guessing at what might possibly sorta work based off that.  And you don't even have the vague training that they do.  Not that theirs is any sort of worthwhile understanding, but yours is even less.

So do you know what the trick is?  Scientifically, it's to be normal.  To try to do as much as you can that's normal unless you have damn good reason not to.

Eat normally.
Excerise normally.
Sleep normally.
Interact normally.
Have sex normally.
Work normally.
Think normally.
Breath normally.
Go to the bathroom normally.
Bathe normally.
Do other stuff normally.

Why will it work?  I don't know.  The chemical systems that we humans are are so complex, so utterly beyond my comprehension that any guess would be such a vulgar guess that only other human beings would be stupid enough to mistake it as having some semblence of truth to it.  But, from what we've seen, people, for the most part, tend to be able to live under "normal" conditions.

For you, I'd like to point out the "think normally" in particular.  If you get odd thoughts, shoot them down.  Don't call yourself as having mental disorders.  Just ignore it all, force it into place by sheer force of will, and try to relax.  Take it easy.

I'm not a doctor, so I can't claim this as "sound" medical advice, or medical advice at all.  But as a human being, with empiracle knowledge and experience, I will recommend you try to live close to the normal life, forcing it by will.

Trying to tell me what I can and can't do and threatening to hospitalize me against my will. I have to see my doctor again Wednesday...he's the one who put me in the hospital last time...I passed out again last week and I was stupid to tell my nutritionist about it...I thought it might be like anemia or something and I could take iron and be done with it...but she wanted me to see the doctor...he'll probably do all kinds of blood work, electrolytes and everything...I was doing pretty well when I had a Dom but I'm not even about to give up control of my food and stuff to a doctor. *sighs* I wish I could just stop going to the doctors completely...it's not like they even help me...they just make it worse...

I agree..they should just let you spaz-out and die!

Is someone forcing you to go to doctors?  Well, Damn them for caring and Damn those doctors for doing their job !  HOW DARE they be so INTRUSIVE in your life!

I've said it before and I'll say it again.    Damn I love you!!!!!

Short, sweet and to the point.

As for the OP, I will reiterate what many others have said.  Keep up the work of confronting it and look for support from those who REALLY understand it.  Namely therapists and group therapy.  Just keep putting one foot in front of the other and you will get there.

This thread should've been of about forty people all saying just, "Get help", without indulging all of this psycho drama that's been exacerbating her condition.

Short and to the point's ideal.

doll,

i was talking to a guy the other day who, in short, told me he had been treating for high blood pressure for about 7 years and although his medication kept the bp stable, every now and then it seemed to go up so he would have to go in and see his doctor.  The doctor found that anxiety attacks were causing the blood pressure to raise so he put the guy on anxiety meds and the guy hasn't had a recurrence like that since.

You say your stomach problems are a result of your purging/bulimia....and your bulimia is coping mechanism for your anxiety....so it would make sense to take one step at a time and try to get that anxiety under control first, by whatever means.  Maybe then you can start to work on the next step.

You do have a lot of issues, and that in itself can seem overwhelming and cause anxiety (kind of like wanting to clean up a messy house and after really looking around, just sitting down and doing nothing because it all just seems too much at once).  But you know you've got to start somewhere;  otherwise, nothing changes.

When i first started reading this, i saw 'pity party' written all over it....but i suppose that could be normal behavior when someone truly is anxious, overwhelmed (or whatever)....and just doesn't know where to start.  So start over!  Because if you don't start taking some serious, positive steps to getting better now, it will not be easier down the road.  So.....10, 20, 30 years from now you'll have the same exact complaints but only then, everyone will be tired of hearing them.

You sound intelligent, and you have goals.  So get things in perspective and get crackin' that whip, girlie!  Ain't nobody else gonna do it for you!

As they say.....Today is the first day of the rest of your life.  Good luck in your future!

Anyone know the difference between psychopath and sociopath?

Well Wishes,
~Passion~

I would like to hear the distinction, genuinely and honestly.

Psychopaths and sociopaths... neither are bothered by conscience.

What, beyond that, distinguishes or differentiates them?

Genuinely curious. :)

You have Hypochondria, don't you?  Maybe even Munchausens.  Your doctors won't feed your obsession, will they, so you are here hassling us (and other boards no doubt)

Munchausen syndrome is a psychiatric disorder in which those affected fake disease, illness, or psychological trauma in order to draw attention or sympathy to themselves. It is in a class of disorders known as factitious disorders which involve "illnesses" whose symptoms are either self-induced or falsified by the patient. (wiki)

Your "illnesses" (variously, PTSD, bipolar, bulimia, hypothyroidism and - maybe - anorexia) are completely self induced and/or imaginary.  Too much of your story does not add up.

You practically boast about your illness and how incurable it is.  You have a bizarre obsesson with your own medical statistics and medical definitions.  Normal sick people would just be worried and seek help but you are revelling in the role of "incurable" patient.  You seem to visit heaps of doctors for someone who doesn't trust doctors.  You have even set up your life to live on welfare benefits so you can be a full time patient, haven't you?

And you are so proud to have been hospitalised involuntarily, you could not wait to come on this board and boast that you might be hospitalised again.......

And your story about untreated hypothyroidism really does not stack up.  Lady, you love being treated.  You even have your own nutritionist!!  You know it all about your electrolytes, cholesterol, blood pressure, BMI etc etc

No wonder Food Addicts Anonymous (for bulimics) would not work for you.  No wonder you have pooh-poohed every other suggestion people have made in this thread. You want to be sick.  For the attention and sympathy.

This thread is an insult to the sufferers of genuine eating disorders and their loved ones.  Stop hassling innocent well-meaning people for concern and sympathy

A psychiatrist I know says there are really only two kinds of insane people: the miserable and the horrible.

First thing I thought of was Munchausen syndrome.

In the old days, sociopaths were considered individuals with anti-social or dissocial disorders while psychopaths were those who more along the lines of what you are thinking.

However, the terms are now used interchangably with the term psychopath being used a LOT more frequently than sociopath.  To add to the confusion, a few states and the UK have established a legal definition for the term.  Here's a brief discussion on the details.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychopathy

Since it is wikipedia and not an authoritative reference, take it with a grain of salt.  There are links at the bottom that you can further research how the terms are defined by the medical society and by various legal entities if you're interested.
