My mother went through menopause as I was going through puberty. Really fun place our home was for a while. I had very few problems. I didn't have hot flashes so much as warm surges. I did have the mood swings, and it could be a frightening sight for anyone in my vicinity, but I would snap out of them in an instant. My periods were extra-heavy for a while, diminished to every other month, then less frequently, then haphazardly but very minor. I had to be prepared all the time, just in case. (Disney World in 2000 - I was NOT prepared! Learned my lesson.) Finally, when it had been a year after my last period, I heaved a sigh of relief. Now that I'm post-menopausal and diabetic, I still have things I go through. Now I have the hot flashes and night sweats. But I will not use HRT. My sister used HRT, and she died from ovarian cancer. I don't know if there's a connection, but the symptoms are not an obstacle to living a contented life, and I'm not a big risk-taker when it comes to my health.

Add as much outdoor activity as possible and it is survivable. I also added more soy, some misc herbal goodies and did some changes in my diet that has helped alot.

Well, my health seems to follow my dad's side of the family, but the female issues are from my mom's side......she went into menopause at about 50.....that's only 2 1/2 years away for me. Her and my dad are OTR truckers, and hit her so bad that she came in off the road for about 6 weeks to get everything regulated......she was absolutely miserable! One minute, she'd be laughing at soemthing my dad said, then she'd be sobbing madly, and then she'd be biting my dad's head off. Imagine PMS in an area not much bigger than a large bathroom......locked inside a big rig with a crazy woman!!!! I am already getting the hot flashes and night sweats.....I have 4 sets of sheets, and have gone thru all 4 in one night, and soaked the pillows and light comforter I have on the bed. I have yet to turn my AC off....all WINTER! I crank the AC at work down so low that people passing thru comment about the possibility of snowfall....my mom ended up having to stay on anti depressants, but that may also be due to the chemical imbalance we women in the family suffer. She's not taking any other hormones, which is a good thing, cuz she's not big on pills....we can tell immediately when she's missed her dose of her happy pills! Needless to say, I'm NOT looking forward to it. The only good thing is that I'm such a Bitch that no one really knows when I'm PMS'ing or not! [:D] OMG!!!! Subtee, I just read your post...thanks for the great laugh! At least I didn't have pepsi in my mouth!!!! Do you know....you sounded just like my mom when she went thru it!!!! ahhhhh..the memories!

I can completely relate..even WITHOUT mp, I hated having a co-driver... LOL

Well, then I'm scared.......everything LaT just listed here I already have.....the insomnia I've dealt with since my teen years, so I'm used to that....everything else has snuck up on me in the last 18 months or so.....dammit!!!!! I'm going back and reading subtee's post...LaT made me cry!
