Madame4a -> RE: Straight males and the word "boi" (3/6/2008 4:33:40 PM)

I won't speak for boijen ...

I know people who identify many different ways and prefer certain pronouns.. sometimes he sometimes she.. for the most part, I'm comfortable with both.. my boi prefers female pronouns although I know she doesn't project feminine in any way at all.

We lesbians are a confusing lot with our gender stuff and like many things, its always good to ask -- despite my constant and consistent exposure to all kinds of gender queers, I often still ask.  And then, someone changes how they like to be refered to, so you can't win.  *grin*

I was at SELF one year, went to the dungeon dressed in fatigues and a black tank top.. jump boots, not the most unusual outfit for me, but a bit different.. I still scream femme -- had a very confused man look at me and say.. "sir, er... ma'am... er... " then he just sighed.. I kissed him.. which was even more confusing I'm sure.  LOL

Life should be fun.

Ha!  That was funny, I actually had a similar situation when I "boi'd out" (or semi drag kinged my slave).  Labels, terms preferences are just that, Much like the terms womyn, Syr, leatherwomyn and so on.

junecleaver -> RE: Straight males and the word "boi" (3/6/2008 6:00:06 PM)

The first time I ever heard this term was in Avril Lavigne's song, Skater Boi.  Then I saw it popping up on CM and assumed it meant either a girl who was boyish or a boy who was girlish.  Definitely not how Avril Lavigne meant it, I'm guessing.  It seems that the only thing for sure that people who use it have in common is that they think it makes them cool.

I will never misspell a word to denote whether someone is a girl or a boy or a purple alien.  It seems silly to me.

I will second owngirlie in that people can call themselves whatever they want.  If I want clarification, I will ask them to expound.

pup -> RE: Straight males and the word "boi" (3/6/2008 6:04:46 PM)

I stick with sissy..  just so much more effective.

Not a tg, tv, ts. .. Just a flamboyant drag queen who is proud of standing out like some kind of japanese hentai cartoon. SISSY

Definitions are for the weak minds who want to put us all in boxes man..

btw.. love the inside of boxes ..

no wait .. word definition boxes .. bad ..

Lucite cage boxes .. good?

DommeKimberly -> RE: Straight males and the word "boi" (3/6/2008 6:07:21 PM)

High Five to Jen.
I also get sick of people using the wrong terms to describe themselves.

BoiJen -> RE: Straight males and the word "boi" (3/6/2008 6:42:04 PM)

Official news for the members of the boijen fan club...:

Boijen doesn't care what pronoun is used. SHe/it could care less and considers gender fairly fluid in regards to she/he/itself

RedMagic1 -> RE: Straight males and the word "boi" (3/6/2008 7:04:28 PM)

Well spoken.  You do indeed deserve the title of Founder, Still Youthful Old Guard Boi Society.

BoiJen -> RE: Straight males and the word "boi" (3/6/2008 7:08:49 PM)

I'll post a sign-up list when the group officially forms out of the boijen fanclub

I don't understand. On the net all you have is words...so if you're really trying to get a point across...like making yourself appealing to someone...one would think that you would do anything you could to be clear. That would include looking up the meaning of a word to make sure you're using the right one right?

I agree with you 100%. I have gotten many emails from straight male "bois" or ones with "boi" in their screen name and I always ask them if they are aware of the meaning. Most either say no, that they chose it cause it sounded cool, or they think it means an effeminate male - which at least according to your definition isn't entirely off, though I'd still say it's not a good description of someone who claims to be a straight male, even if effeminate. But besides the fact that it personally irritates the hell out of me (and you) so what? There are people on here claiming to be Goddesses, Princesses, Lords, you name it. I don't think any of them are really sticking to the dictionary definition either. I tend to just be personally aggravated and then move on.

MistressNoName -> RE: Straight males and the word "boi" (3/6/2008 7:27:39 PM)

I don't get it either, Jen...I got an email just yesterday from a straight guy with boi as part of his screenname...I thought it might've been a GQ "female" writing...but, much to my disappointment, it was an ill-informed straight boy. And I've seen this a few times on here. Maybe next time it happens, I'll ask them why they do that. I'd like to understand. Maybe they think "boi" refers to submissive het men as well. Or maybe the thing the spelling is cute...Or, here's a thought...maybe they use it b/c they cross-dress. I dunno.

MNN

domiguy -> RE: Straight males and the word "boi" (3/6/2008 7:32:14 PM)

It is just awful that a straight dude would put the word boi in his profile...I've had sex with a lesbian...What does it all mean?...She was drunk?...Out for revenge since getting bounced by some khaki wearing dyke? Or perhaps I have "chickly" features? It's a puzzle that might never be solved.

I don't pay attention to such things...It really doesn't bother me either way.

I still would like pics of boijen...It is customary for the fan club president to harbor such glam shots.

On the other side I often assumed the use of the word "Gurl" was some indication that it was a male in female guise.  I couldn't find any other logical reason to spell girl that way unless it meant some other gender.
Any idea why people use that?

My apologies if someone has already covered this, as I tend to respond as I read, but just to put in my 2 cents...back when I was in high school I recall "gurl" being used by some feminist students as a sort of protest against traditional and patriarchal roles of female gender identity. Sort of the girl equivalent of "womyn" so it seemed.

Ummmm... this whole concept of Effeminacy is a great read as well...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Effeminacy

From all his past stories about dressing up on stage, this had a lot to do with it.  It was a rather strange band that he was in.  The lead vocalist actually owned two slave girls that were the back up singers too.   Most of the theme was that of a sexual nature and a slap in the face of right wing morality.   I can think of at least four bands he was in that carried this same theme.

When I was younger, I was in part guilty of dressing up in clothing that was more femine at times.  Amazing the crazy shit guys that played in hard rock bands used to wear.  Spandex, skin tight clothing,  teased up long hair, ear rings and the whole nine yards. Yes, including make-up.   Don't believe me just watch videos of the 80's and eary 90's hair bands.  Think that will give you the idea here.

I actually had one girl tell me that I appeared too feminine looking to date me, and Geeesh.. how is  a straight guy rock and roller supposed to react to that one.   I understand or relate to what she said better now.   I sit back and watch those old Video and laugh at how much of a freak I used to dress up as... and Yes, it was and is femine  in style.

What sad is that every so often in the 80's and early 90's some guy would be checking my ass out, then become horrified when I turned around and they realized I was a Dude.   LOL... I'm sitting here laughing my ass off now about it all.   It was a common thing that seemed to happen to all us guys into the Hair Band thing though.   Just not with me, but it happened to guys in other bands.  Fun topic to talk about while partying with other musicians.

I'm with you on all of that. As a former "Pretty Boy" (Note: Boy) rock singer, I spent most of the 80's made-up, sprayed-up, and ready for action! It was the thing to do at the time. It was fun. And oh boy did it work! I had a great time. I also, got the horrified looks from the guys who thought they were checking out a girl from time to time. A small price to pay. Those really were the days!
In the words of Blackie Lawless:
"It was everything you thought it was, and then some...And God do I miss it."

(Sorry about the hijack...Back to your regularly scheduled thread.)
