Real_Trouble -> RE: Misogynist or doms (3/9/2008 4:30:57 PM)

Quick, let's throw around wild generalities and over-react to a false dilemma! Go! On a more serious note, almost any sort of generalization about human behavior is bound to fail (often spectacularly) in specific cases; links like the one above make my blood pressure rise high enough that I'm worried my head will blow off my shoulders and embed itself in the ceiling. There are many reasons why people behave as they do, and why certain over-arching social trends may exist, but attempting to put any large group of people into a neat box is doomed to failure unless the statement is so painfully broad as to be obvious. More to the point, I get the sense that the author of that post is either intentionally or passive-aggressively attempting to promote conflict and stir the pot, as it were, rather than progress towards any truly meaningful understanding of the human condition. Whoever posted above that the name of the link was quite appropriate, I concur. Likewise, I would suggest that the OP's suggestion about comparing misogynists and Doms is misguided; some misogynists will be Doms, and some Doms will be misogynists, but that is common sense. To suggest that they are somehow comparable or mutually exclusive groups is like my suggesting we should compare racists with dentists... Edit - this is not to say that comparison errors are uncommon; people make them extremely frequently, myself included, because there is a natural human tendency towards all kinds of wonderful cognitive biases that distort our thinking on a regular basis.
