Lordandmaster -> The Three Trillion Dollar War (3/9/2008 8:56:29 PM)

Hmm, could someone explain to me again why this was a good idea?

You can fix a lot of bridges for three trillion dollars.

kittinSol -> RE: The Three Trillion Dollar War (3/9/2008 9:08:34 PM)

The war was good for the weapons manufacturers, and they had to justify the defense budget. They've done more than that now, obviously, having slightly... exceeded their... line of credit, but anyway, it's been supah dupah and everybody's happy.

Why do you ask? Are you a COMMUNIST?

cloudboy -> RE: The Three Trillion Dollar War (3/9/2008 9:10:22 PM)

Brought to us by tax-cutting nimrod's versed in the doublespeak of "smaller government."

Lordandmaster -> RE: The Three Trillion Dollar War (3/9/2008 9:13:05 PM)

Well it IS smaller government if you account for the fact that the dollar is falling like a rock.  Three trillion dollars is a lot less than it used to be!

Bridges, who wants to build bridges when it is more fun blowing them up, toys for the boys.

popeye1250 -> RE: The Three Trillion Dollar War (3/9/2008 9:14:32 PM)

No-one, not just the U.S. can afford to "rebuild" foreign countries.
At this point I kind of hope Hillary gets in, at least she'll put an end to this foolishness.
Meanwhile our bridges and roads collapse.
And yes, we're going to have to spend a LOT more money on Veterans.

welikespice -> RE: The Three Trillion Dollar War (3/9/2008 9:24:11 PM)

Not even wanting to open a world of debate on the war or any other subject, but this war is not new it has been rolling on for thousands of years.

It will not stop until it either destroys the whole world or some greater thing is show to exist.
If not Iraq then some where else or some thing else, for reasons the greater American public will not know or if they did not understand.
Religious right or we can change left neither means much, some say I am doom and gloom but I wish I did not know some of the things I do.

I would much be more in asking why some one signed a loan paper for a house that has a mortgage that the interest is barely in there reach. With it clearly written in the loan that it can climb as the interest rates do, which if they do not get pay raises or such it would soon be out of their budget. Then on top of it all seek credit cards and such now they have a house to show good credit. Then when the bill raises they cry foul and want no blame. With that said then the whole economy makes your 3 billion worth half and so every thing cost more with the less value dollar.

Joint Statement on Minneapolis Bridge Collapse

Friday, August 03, 2007

Contact: Matt Burns

(SAINT PAUL, Minn.) – Joint statement from Committee on Arrangements Chairman Jo Ann Davidson and 2008 Republican National Convention President and Chief Executive Officer Maria Cino:  "The recent bridge collapse in Minneapolis is a tragedy beyond words.  Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with those involved and their families.  In addition to offering our support in the difficult days ahead, we want to assure our hosts in Minneapolis-Saint Paul that we will be here for one of their shining moments 13 months from now -- hosting the 2008 Republican National Convention. Our most important thoughts right now, though, are about people rather than politics.

"are about people rather than politics."
These guys are so full of crap that it`s coming out their mouths in the form of words.

They`re being a bit to cute, by half.

I think America sees the connection between Bush spending 3 billion a week in Iraq and our rotting infrastructure at home.

I think America sees the connection between Bush spending 3 billion a week in Iraq and our faltering economy and bad economic trends here at home.

It is almost like nobody realized that cutting interest rates would depreciate the dollar.

If an egg was worth 5 cents in 1968, and 25 cents in 2005, has the value of the egg gone down?

Or perhaps the money is not worth what it used to be worth?

Sinergy

p.s. if your house was worth 150k in 2000 and 750k in 2008, is it somehow a different house?

p.p.s.  i cant stand people who think cutting interests actually fixes anything.

Yeh well you know whats so cool about it doncha?

This bill is being run up with cheap inflated money.   What that does is give us double the number we would have had if the money was not inflated.  That means the deficit would only be 5 trillion instead of 10 trillion.

Now the key here is that what they do is run the bill up with cheap money and collect as the money gets more expensive eh?  So they do not decrease the deficit by the same rate the money deflates but they sure as hell increase it as it inflates donna they?

So we pay back that deficit on a number that is doubled what it should have been even as money increases in value, hence paying back twice as much as if the money were stable.

Now do you think anyone would consider voting for ron paul the only one who wants to do something about this?  nah...  its not important!

Oh yeh and you know that 401 k you got?  Well its only worth 1/2 what it was in the year 2001!

Oh and btw you know that nice 70,000 per year job you got?  Well the government just demoted you!  Thats right you now only make 35,000 per year.  Plus you got twice the debt to pay or the equivalent of a 20 trillion deficit assuming like last time we get roughly the same value back and the whole system does not fall on its ass!

Ever get the impression our government is raping us?

Bend over and smile this is going to hurt a bit, but you will get over it!   LOL

Oh oh yah and now the dems are going to get in and raise taxes to pay for it all just for the cherry on top!!!  Anyone adding this up or am I the only one?  See what a huge fuck us over it is?

It was decent for the major weapons contractors at best.  Colt, Boeing, Lockheed-Martin, Raytheon, et. al. haven't done all that great from this.

The niche players like the explosive ordnance disposal contractors (what I used to do) and the security contractors (e.g. Blackwater, Cochise, etc.) have made out like bandits.

The big logistics outfits (e.g. Haliburton, Bechtel, KBR, etc) haven't done poorly by any stretch, but they haven't pulled in the insane proffits that the ordnance and security people have.   Please note that I say proffits.   The press wants to focus on overall dollars but they ignore the cost of the services provided.

EDIT:  Oh yeah.....The canine contractors are the ones with utterly STUPID margins on their services.   Qualified working dogs are few and far between.  There are less than 5 major outfits who can provide a significant number of canines that are up for the job and they know it.   Bend over and take it doggy style.

Oh, the ones that were a threat to all mankind?

Did ANYONE believe that in the first place?

The US said it was a threat to democracy...I wondered why they cared when they are ruled by totalitarism anyway!

'All over the world' I think not.  All over the world, which for america is 50 states and nothing else...

I have a feeling the two million of us that marched through the streets of London knew it was BS from the moment it came out of Colin Powells mouth.

Remember the speech with the film of his tinker trunks above him...tut...

If the people of this world are so naive then we are doomed.

Please feel free to use google to debunk what you said.

A quick trip onto Wiki...using the search words February 15m 2003 anti-war protest brings this up.

'The February 15, 2003 anti-war protest was a coordinated day of protests across the world against the imminent invasion of Iraq. Millions of people protested in approximately 800 cities around the world. According to BBC News, between six and ten million people took part in protests in up to sixty countries over the weekend of the 15th and 16th; other estimates range from eight million to thirty million.[1][2] The biggest protests took place in Europe. The protest in Rome involved around 3 million people, and is listed in the 2004 Guinness Book of World Records as the largest anti-war rally in history.[3] Opposition to the war was highest in the Middle East, although protests there were relatively small. Mainland China was the only major region not to see any protests, but small demonstrations attended mainly by foreign students were seen later[4].'
