~FR~
BTW, I read an AP news report that said the money he paid was for services for that night (the day before Valentine's at that!) as well as credit for future "purchases."

I wish he hadn't messed up.  God!!! He couldn't go without hoes for two more years!???  Geez.

Anyone read a piece about "unsafe" acts the prostitute was warned he would ask her to perform?  My mind boggles!

Did Eliot Spitzer ever prosecute Johns? I didn't think that was really the NYS Attorney General's gig. Spitzer v. Someone would be a civil case. Prostitution charges would be on the county level, right?

And what does being Governor have to do with it? Anyway, It's not like he got caught with a DEAD hooker.

Well, Spitzer defined his career as fighting coruption.
Also, there's that pesky "Mann Act" thingy which is a federal felony.
And, he's not really a good manager with that "Troopergate" thing and that lisences for illegal aliens thing either.
Lawyers just aren't good managers. They were trained as,.....lawyers.

What do hookers have to do with corruption?

And a politician who isn't corrupt is an oxymoron. Hey, if I had a campaign contributor give ME a credit card to buy whores on, *I* ain't going to pass it up...

I think you're missing the Big Picture... This is Hank Greenberg's way of getting even.

Pataki was an okay governor. Not great, not horrid, just okay. I can live with okay and I voted for Spitzer because he looked like more of the same – a little left for my liking but he didn’t look like he would rock the boat too bad. What a disappointment he turned out to be. Ther smear campaign, the dumb-ass idea of giving driver’s licences to illegal aliens, and now this. I don’t think you’re working out Spitzy. As a life long resident of the State of New York, I hereby call upon you to resign.

I’ll admit that I don’t know a whole lot about David Patterson but we can cross that bridge when we come to it.

Evidently quite a bit.
They make mincemeat out of politicians.
I think it's the politicians who are *missing the big picture.*
And, evidently "Eliot Ness" wanted to have unprotected sex with this young lady.

Why would the deceased first baseman of the Detroit Tigers want revenge upon Spitzer?

Spitzers problem is not that he is corrupt, thats true of most politicians. His problrm is he broke rule #1, don't get caught.

Nevada is one of only two U.S. states that allow some legal prostitution; in most of its counties, brothels are legalized and heavily regulated. (In Rhode Island, the act of sex for money is not illegal, but street solicitation and operation of a brothel are.)

Prostitution most assuredly is a crime--it's on the books in all 50 states in the Union.  There's no "assume" about it.

Whether it should be a crime--that's a different question altogether.

awmslave -> RE: NY Gov Spitzer linked to prostituition ring? (3/10/2008 8:54:13 PM)

Shame! Rip-off artists rather than prostitutes.  $1000/hour should guarantee absolute privacy.

caitlyn -> RE: NY Gov Spitzer linked to prostituition ring? (3/10/2008 9:02:29 PM)

General ...

I feel the need to point out that "named in an investigation" or even "charged" ... is a bit different than being convicted of something.

If he is convicted, thats one thing (and a bad one at that), but castigating someone based on anything less ... well, can anyone say Duke Lacross Team?

popeye1250 -> RE: NY Gov Spitzer linked to prostituition ring? (3/10/2008 9:28:12 PM)

Ah,...Caitlyn, he had a press conference, his wife was there, he admitted that he did it.
He was caught with his pants down.

If George Bush doesn't face prosecution for his crimes, why should Eliot Spitzer?

Because Spitzer is caught on a wiretap committing a crime. There isn't much he can wiggle out of.

He's also a hypocrite. While he was attorney general, he helped lead a task force against an escort service in NYC. 18 people were arrested. And he leads a campaign based on rooting out corruption and crime in government. Prostitution IS a crime. People do go to jail for it. He sent people to jail for it.

What crimes?  You forget that Congress (including Hillary) voted to authorize the Iraq war.

I'm not a fan of Mr. Bush, but please avoid the vague generalizations.

caitlyn -> RE: NY Gov Spitzer linked to prostituition ring? (3/10/2008 9:51:48 PM)

I'm not defending the man Popeye, only calling for enough patience to allow things to play out.

We had some confessions in the Duke LaCross case also, and later found out the circumstances under which they were, "negotiated."

If he is convicted, you know me ... I prefer hang 'em high Texas justice [;)] ... but whats the hurry in the rush to judgment. Lets let it play out a bit and discover the story they never seem to tell us the first time around.

Vendaval -> RE: NY Gov Spitzer linked to prostituition ring? (3/10/2008 9:51:56 PM)

I do not have any sympathy for this guy or any politico
of his ilk.  But I do for his family, the wife and 3 daughters.
How embarassing and painful this whole situation must be for them!  [&:]

Remember, too, Spitzer is a Democrat.  That means the press will go easy on him.

He can easily survive this if he wants to.  Ya know the routine, confession, apology, admits being a sex addict, goes on Oprah, says he made a 'mistake', etc. etc.

Martha's back on TV, Bill is running for co-President again (even after being stripped of his law license for perjury), O.J. is still looking for the 'real killers', and so forth.

Piece of cake!  Hell, put him on the short list for Democratic candidates in 2012!
