Because of the rank hypocrisy of it. Amongst other cases, Spitzer made his name as a prosecutor and Attorney General by busting prostitution rings.

That's interesting because I understood that he got caught out there because his withdrawal profile matched that of typical AML schemes -- lot of withdrawals under $10K to avoid filling out Fed docs. Every bank in the US is supposed to check for this kind of thing. Spitzer would have been extremely well aware of this! I think his withdrawal patterns were completely asinine unless he actually wanted to get caught and end his hypocritical existence :P He did everything to set off auditing flags except leave a note on the transfers "payment for prostitutes"!

~ Fast Reply ~ Couldn't happen to a nicer guy who loved to dictate how much someone should make, used extortion as a political weapon, and made a name for himself by closing down places similar to the one he was a client. I LOVE seeing hypocrites exposed! The were dancing in the aisles on Wall Street, which rose 400 points in his dis-honor. But really this is the fault of a Republican; specifically - Rudy Giuliani. If Rudy didn't clean up 42nd street in the City, 'Client 9' wouldn't have had to use interstate wire transfer to send his funds. BTW - Spitzer was on Senator Clinton's 'short-list' of VP candidates.
