But hate speech is dangerous.... Before Equal rights were givien to the Blacks.. people were lynched for being in the "wrong towns" or looking at thier white women the wrong way" or "being too uppity" They had created second class citizens through hate speech. With Demonizing any minority or group.... you make them less human. Those people in society who are apt to violence and hatered are going to run with it and do what they can to "subdue and hurt" the members of society that have been disenfranchized.
The Germans were told for years the Jews, Rom and Gays were inferor, dirty, and beneath contempt. It made thier capture, torture and eventual mass murder much easier going because of the Hate speech that changed peoples minds from the begining. Only when it was over did the ones who went along with it and bought into the hate come to slowly realize just how wrong it was.
Hate crimes against gays were down for a while.. but when Prez Bush came in, and the Radical Religous Right made being gay a shameful dirty thing to be again Crimes against gays and murders have gone up. So has gay suicudes.
There is a cause and effect between hate speech and the eventual violence in a society. Again History has proven it's lessons. If some one had stopped hitlers on going rants about the dirty Jews.. if some one had enough balls to stand up to him when he was a small fry.... who knows?

If you do not stand up to the Petty Tyrant when they are preaching on the street corner, they get elected. If you do not stand up to the elected Tyrant then thier ideas become vaild. If thier ideas become valid it then takes armies of people standing up to all of the Petty Tyrants they have created and eventualy to them.
This is why Hate Speech is Dangerous.. and Is harmful.
I have no idea why people diferenciate between it being ok to spew hate against Gays ( one minority ) and not ok to spew hate tword blacks ( another minority that *just* got thier rights) to me it is 2 sides of the same coin.
Hate is bad.. no matter how you slice it. It brings with it violence, and removes peoples rights. ( or never gives it to them)
~ as I have said before no I do not want thought police... or a nanny state I know someone who secretly hates some group of people will bring that up.
I just do not want *any* group of people to be second class citizens with fewer rights, who are reviled and attacked simply because of race, religion, creed, sexual orientation, or any of that crap we should all be cool with since we are not in the dark ages.
