ORIGINAL: Muttling For the record, I'm ALL against long term U.S. bases in Iraq. It would be tactically helpful, but would be a wonderful recruiting poster for our enemies and solidify the concept of us having occupied Iraq. "That argument could have been made against every base we (or any other nation) has ever built on foreign soil. It means nothing." Our bases in Korea were recruiting posters for the Chinese and the North Koreans. Our bases in Europe enraged the Soviets, and Putin today. And so on. Just smell the arrogance. That`s the reek of neo-conservatives. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~F/R~ The POTUS has no power to make treaties or make long term commitments like this.Only the Senate can do that. Guess what? Bush is claiming that the infamous "authorization to use force", automatically gives him the power to make these decisions and long term treaties. Hillary Clinton has spear-headed the effort to stifle Bush`s efforts to have permanent bases there.
