For some, their religion gives them strength and something to hang on to in times of real distress. It can for some also give them a morality code which is good as long as they do not attempt to rem it down other peoples throats.

I'm a Pagan Priest with a working (always busy) alter in my home. However I own to being neither moral nor imoral but rather amoral and have a strict and ridgid code of condict and ethics I live by. It works for me. Anyone visiting or thinking about a Bruin Cottage collar will be well aware of my beliefs and that I do spend time on my duties within the Pagan Ministries. They are welcom to attend many of the working of the Minoistry ot my personal Grpoup, the Clan O'Sliabh which has a high sexual content in the rituals. Basically they are free to folloew their own path as long as it doesn't clash with mine.

God and I have our own personal relationship..why bring in a third party religion?..In other words, many of my beliefs have a bit of every religion mixed within it..so hence I believe in God ,not any one true religion....Tempting

Personally, i don't have a religion.  i have a relationship with a higher power.  It doesn't affect my personal relationships. It doesn't affect my Master. It is just another relationship in my life.

I view religion as really cool idea man cooked up to control his fellow man and pretty much fleece him.  The sadistic ones have a good gig going too.  At the very least, it segragates people.  As far as spirituality, I haven't heard a damn thing myself.  I wanna believe in a god, but really, what is there for him to do now?  After creating the universe (let's be politically correct here) He/She/he/she/It/it, pretty much put themselves outta a job.  I'm always willing to listen, maybe my heart will be shown grace someday.  How does that effect my views on life?  I respect life and feel people should not be subjugated (without consent of course) based on elements of their lives they can't control.  People aren't created equal, but kickin' people when their down, just seems wrong...  I do look fetching in a priest's outfit though.

Yes. But they still tie it to these absurd rituals, and it's still a religion. I'm not buying a thinly veiled attempt by an old carney to hijack simple humanism-sorry.

Don't make it sounds so simple..the rituals. You know how hard it is to get babies lately?

btw..."it is stil a religion". I think in general that is the problem we have, beeing judgemental. That is the whole clue about these topics.

I said church of Satan, but it is a little older then just the church of satan. There is more...but agree..it is the image the world has.

i have not found one single religion that could catch my attention but rather i find interesting concepts in all religions and my exploration has been useful to me personally.

Master and i are not 'religious' although we share similar views on things spiritual.  my relationship with the Energy i call God is not a part of our relationship but a funny thing has happened to me.  Once i fully understood the paradox of BDSM and fully understood how liberating it is to embrace my role as slave, only then did i fully understand my relationship with my God.  So it's not that i include 'religion' in our M/s relationship but our M/s relationship that led me to a satisfying relationship with the Energy, suddenly everything just made more sense to me.  In other words, i became a slave and found God..lol!

The ten commandments, as I see them from a non Christian point of view are great, wonderful sense and right.

I seriously don't get this - how can a non christian find the commandments wonderful sense and right?  I'm the first to big up the scripture but I don't understand your statement A.  If I wanted to be pedantic, there are twelve commandments - just depending on the religion is how it's 10 and in what order.  I also find the majority completely irrelevant today as well as it being a pick and choose catagory thang.  I don't find it sensible, nor just nor right in the modern world.

Funny thing is... most people who have "found" religion are atheists when it comes to beliefs that are different from their own.   I simply to quote Richard Dawkins "take it one god further".

I've never made religion or lack thereof a focal point of my relationships.   Although I must admit that I would have absolutely no interest in someone who spent their time babbling about their spiritual beliefs and attempting to foist the views onto me.

I'm an athiest.

I'm not anti-religion.  I just don't personally believe in any form of deity, higher power, cosmic daddy, etc.

Hasn't affected it much at all.  With a few submissives who were religious it was enough of a problem for them that the relationship didn't work out.  On the other hand I nearly married a catholic.  It used to bug her a bit and the best way I knew to explain to her my difference of belief was this...

Abou Ben Adhem (may his tribe increase!)
Awoke one night from a deep dream of peace,
And saw, within the moonlight in his room,
Making it rich, and like a lily in bloom,
An Angel writing in a book of gold:

Exceeding peace had made Ben Adhem bold,
And to the Presence in the room he said,
"What writest thou?" The Vision raised its head,
And with a look made of all sweet accord
Answered, "The names of those who love the Lord."

"And is mine one?" said Abou. "Nay, not so,"
Replied the Angel. Abou spoke more low,
But cheerily still; and said, "I pray thee, then,
Write me as one who loves his fellow men."

The Angel wrote, and vanished. The next night
It came again with a great wakening light,
And showed the names whom love of God had blessed,
And, lo! Ben Adhem's name led all the rest!

I don't believe in God, Allah, Budha, Odin, Vishnu or the rest.  That's my choice, its a personal one.  I do care about people.  If that isn't enough for any cosmic higher power(s) that may exist (not that I believe any do, but for sake of the argument)... fuck'em.

Same goes for any submissives or people in general who can't accept my choice... fuck'em.

That is just silly, and it was silly the first time it was said.

Atheist = someone who believes there is no such thing as a god.

Theist = someone who believes there is a god (Polytheist = believes in many gods, Monotheist = believes in one god)

Now its possible for someone who lives by a religion that has no gods to be an atheist, but anyone who actually believes in a god cannot. And vice versa - an atheist cannot by definition be someone who believes in any kind of god.

Why would religion have anything to do with one's D/s relationship? I always hear that religion is such a personal thing. So if it's personal, it's part of who you are and I would hope the person with whom you are in a relationship likes you for you, belief in ancinet fairy tales and all.

They are part of Judaism, and also appear in the Qur'an (though not in list form).  Not surprising since Moses is a prominant figure in all three religions.

I beg to disagree. It takes some ovaries, to accept that we may not know everything :-) . But then again, mysteries are huge turn-ons for me.

it is not a mirracle they talk about the same persons...it was all in the east..and there were way less people then.
Everything almost happened in a small area.
Weird to see... the religions became enemies.

Religion is a very personal one on one relationship with God (however one perceives God to be) - I don't personally believe in organized religion because I do not believe that any one man can dictate how I am suppose to relate to God or how I am to worship (if I choose to worship).  I believe that it is a very private thing and thus not something I share with the world in general and thus it doesn't have a place in my personal relationships bdsm or otherwise.

I am Christian, my partner is an athiest - to dictate to him what he is to believe is an infringement of his right to consent and that is the whole foundation upon which bdsm relationships and lifestyles are built. We are all created with the freedom to choose our paths in life and this includes our beliefs.

What would be a deal breaker for a bdsm or any relationship is differences in morals. Some things you just have to stand up against in life (like prejudice, child pornography, abuse, assult, etc...).
