Ok.I know that some here will think of this as a good thing.

This is what conservatives are all about.In some other threads currently going,this hate and stupidity is embraced and applauded.

It is freaky and pretty scary that a possible American President has to kow tow to this sort of stuff even if he doesn't believe in it. It is horrifying should a possible American President really believe in it!

I think the Republican party got boonswoggled into believeing that the Evangelical vote was the *most* important vote to chase. and that it outweighted all others. If that were in fact true the Huckabee's crazy ass would have been in the lead. I think it was a bunch of hype from the squeakiest and frankly most annoying wheel of all. If McCain panders to the Religious Right as Dubya did where the hell is the change? Where does it get us? He wants us in Iraq untill it is "Mission Complete" untill we win it. There is no winning in that great big cluster fuck. Hell Big Georgie said it in his book there could be no viable pull out stratagies, and that is why he never invaded Iraq. The lil Georgie didnt read Daddies book did he? (dumbass)  If McCain gets it we might was well just let Dubya stay in.. it' wont be any better off.

I wonder how far Mr Parsley would get if he described Judaism in the same terms and recommended similar actions against Jews?

I have to say, its nuts like this and the positions and influence they hold in such a powerful country, that are the biggest danger in today's world. Yes, there are nuts everywhere worldwide, but its the position and influence on the world's superpower thats most worrying - take away the superpower status and theyre common or garden nuts as found the world over.

Without wishing to provoke another endless debate on free speech, I feel the message conveyed by Mr Parsley would provide grounds for police investigation over here, under our hate crime laws. At best he is insulting and annoying, but the message of hatred and the incitement towards violence against Islamic people and their institutions could well constitute an offence.

Rational politicians stand for rational electorates.  It really is past time people with values made themselves heard and their presence felt but I have little faith in that happening.  And we have our fair share of ostriches closer to home.

Honestly - the Dems are self-imploding again.  What is UP with the re-do of elections?  Why can't they get their act together and put forth a candidate who isn't polarizing (Hillary) or who has maybe, I dunno, the background and experience, to be president (Obama)??  WTF?  I'm a Republican and was looking for a Dem to put in b/c I'm tired of the last 8 years also.  I just don't see my vote going that way, though.  I didn't follow the Dem primaries b/c I'm registered Rep - but there were several candidates there that I would have voted for over these two - Biden, for example. 

And that leaves us with McCain, who I've liked, but I want a change!  And then I read things like this about him and I just get more nervous ... sigh.

That is ok. McCain is so desperate because he knows he is going to lose in November that he is that stupid to endorse someone like this.  He is supposed to be a conservative which we know is not the case now.

If you're referring to Farrakhan, I think you'll find that he's a political zealot more than anything. I doubt that religion occupies his thoughts much.

There is one in California - the only person in Congress to confess no belief in God.  Politicians are cowed by religion.

There is activity to mobilize non believers in the US, which is difficult since they don't congregate.  It's also a shameful secret in the US because a lack of belief in God is equated with a lack of morals.  It can be quite intimidating to come out of the closet since there's a great chance you'll be villified.  Dawkins, Dennett, Harris and Hitchens (along with "American Atheists" and other organizations) are working at getting people to out themselves.  At 14% of the US population, the non believers could eventually become a powerful force. Not this election though, I'm sorry to say.
