GreedyTop -> For those who are owned by furbabies (3/13/2008 11:11:02 PM)

As I type this there are 11.5 hours until one of my (former) beloved furbabies is going to be put to sleep.
Baby (so named because we never could come up with a better name LOL) has pancreatitis.
He used to travel with me in trucks, when I was driving.  He went to live with my Mom when I could no longer take him, when I switched to buses from trucks.
Mom is torn up about it... as she said.. who will meet her at the bottom of the steps when she gets home? Who will be curled up at the top of her head, purring?
He's 13, so he's had a long life compared to some. Right now, he's on mega pain killers.  Even with surgery, his chances of survival would be iffy.
So folks.. please send a prayer to Mom, Baby, and yes, me...

(And I'm sorry if this is the wrong forum.. wasn't sure where to put it...)

The Rainbow Bridge story
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigour; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.

The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together

I hope this brings you comfort.. I know in my heart of hearts my loved pets await me there for when I "go Home"

Gwyn

GreedyTop -> RE: For those who are owned by furbabies (3/13/2008 11:35:10 PM)

thanks, Gwyn... *hugs* Mom and I have become very familiar with Rainbow Bridge over the past 10 yrs...  Val (dog), Simon(cat), Noodge(my boykitty), Klutz (cockatiel). Not to mention the friends who have lost fur(and feather!) babies.

It always makes me weepy.

Thank you ... I know I'll see them all over there...

one of my favorite Twilight Zone episodes is the one where an old man goes coon hunting, and he and his dog drown.. the Devil tries to entice him by saying he's found paradise, but when the devil won't allow the dog in, the old man says, no way..wanders on down the road until he finds the gate to heaven, where animals are welcome...

A  very dear friend of mine sent me that after my Katrina died, back in 2000. Keeshond, the sweetest-tempered girl ever; she died of liver cancer. Her last night, I had her up on the bed with me, and I had given her a percocet for the pain. I couldn't sleep, I just watched her. Anyway, my ex took her to the vet the next day. I told her I didn't want to know how she died, and I don't to this day. It took me a long time to get over her, and "Rainbow Bridge" was of enormous comfort to me.

Gwynvyd -> RE: For those who are owned by furbabies (3/13/2008 11:39:59 PM)

I remember that episode! that was one of my faves. It is a sure sign it isnt heaven if there are no Cats or Dogs.. tip off #1 for me. Yeah I am an big ol softy when it comes to pets and kids...

If my prev. cats, dogs, and horses cant come with me.. I aint goin. *smiles*

The Rainbow Bridge has always comforted me too... I am glad I found it for you.. *hugs to all who have lots loved fur children*

GreedyTop -> RE: For those who are owned by furbabies (3/13/2008 11:42:14 PM)

keeshonds are great dogs.. my grandparents had one (Kiri).  She was such a bundle of love :)

Yep, Gwyn.. I aint going anyplace my critters arent welcome! Unconditional love ... isn't that what God (in whatever form) is about?

Gwynvyd -> RE: For those who are owned by furbabies (3/13/2008 11:46:07 PM)

yeppers.. every time I wonder about love.. all I have to do is look at my Bucky or Cleo... and see how trusting and unconditionaly they love me... *smiles* ( the same can be said for the love of a child of course)

not to wax all spiritual here but... it makes you wonder wow... if this small little creature loves us like that... how much can God love us. ( and vice versa )

That sucks. It's always hard to lose a beloved pet.

I had to put an animal down last year. It began as an exploratory surgery and became a decision to put her to sleep because of inoperable bone cancer. I didn't even have the chance to say goodbye or look her in the eyes one more time. The vet offered to bring her back to consciousness and that she would be relatively pain free for a week or two longer. But keeping her out of pain was what I focused on because I don't think animals deal very well with it. I declined the offer and said my goodbye while she was already asleep.

Here's a funny picture of her:

It just breaks my heart.

My Lord and I each have a dog, mother and son, who we love deeply.  They are our protectors, and our friends.

I'm sorry for your loss.  Hugs.

Gwynvyd -> RE: For those who are owned by furbabies (3/14/2008 12:48:48 AM)

awwww.... she looks like my Cleo almost.. make her Super Model thin ( my silly cat eats all day human and cat food.. still doesnt gain weight.. naturaly thin ) and add some leopard spots around the belly and a eternaly pissy/superior look on the face.

You can always tell peoples charictor by how they treat animals, children, and the elderly. *smiles*

Very cute picture. So sorry about her hun.

*hugs*

Gwyn,
The huggin factory *smiles*

Let it out. I was a bit teary-eyed a little while ago thinking about Kat, and she's been gone for 8 years. Love never dies.

*huggggs*

Greedy, I am so sorry you and your mom are going through this. It's so hard to lose one of our furbabies. Know that you're in my thoughts and heart at this time and that Baby will be waiting at the Rainbow Bridge for you. I also couldn't imagine going any where my babies aren't waiting for me. Here's my babies:
