If you attend a church for 20 years...... and your pastor said the things Rev. Wright said.... but you were not there that day.... do you think you would be unaware of it? That no one would mention it to you? That you would not overhear some other parisioner talking about how the Rev said "God damn America!" the other day?

Interestingly enough, Obama said that he had not "personally heard" his Pastor say those things at Trinity. That strikes me a rather curiously crafted phrase. The only way we don't hear something "personally" is if we hear it second-hand.

Billy Graham, from wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Graham

William Franklin Graham, Jr., KBE (born November 7, 1918) better known as Billy Graham, is an evangelist and an Evangelical Christian. He has been a spiritual adviser to multiple U.S. presidents[1] and was number seven on Gallup's list of admired people for the 20th century. He is a member of the Southern Baptist Convention.

...

In 1994, H.R. Haldeman's diaries revealed that Graham had taken part in conversations speaking of "Jewish domination of the media." The allegations were so at odds with Graham's public image that most did not believe his account, and Jewish groups paid little attention. Graham released a statement denying that he talked "publicly or privately about the Jewish people, including conversations with President Nixon, except in the most positive terms." He said, "Those are not my words."[13]

In 2002, however, newly declassified "Richard Nixon tapes" confirmed remarks made by Graham to President Nixon three decades earlier. Captured on the tapes, Graham agreed with Nixon that Jews control the American media, calling it a "stranglehold" during a 1972 conversation with Nixon.[23] "This stranglehold has got to be broken or the country's going down the drain,"[24] said Graham, agreeing with Nixon's comments about Jews and their influence in American life. Later, Graham mentions that he has friends in the media who are Jewish, including A.M. Rosenthal, saying they "swarm around me and are friendly to me." But, he tells Nixon, "They don't know how I really feel about what they're doing to this country."[23] These remarks were highly controversial to some Jewish leaders that characterized them as antisemitic, such as Abraham Foxman.[13]

When the tapes were released, Graham apologized for his remarks, stating that "although I have no memory of the occasion, I deeply regret comments I apparently made ... They do not reflect my views, and I sincerely apologize for any offense caused by the remarks,"[25] and "If it wasn't on tape, I would not have believed it. I guess I was trying to please... I went to a meeting with Jewish leaders and I told them I would crawl to them to ask their forgiveness."[26] According to Newsweek magazine, "the shock of the revelation was magnified because of Graham's longtime support of Israel and his refusal to join in calls for the conversion of the Jews."[26]

...

In 1993, Graham said in Columbus, Ohio, "Is AIDS a judgment of God? I could not say for sure, but I think so." After seeing letters criticizing that comment, Graham later said, "I remember saying it, and I immediately regretted it and almost went back and clarified the statement," and "To say God has judged people with AIDS would be very wrong and very cruel."[3][4]

See? To me, all men of "faith" are equally crazy.

Renounce god!

This will become an issue, at least for me, if its proven that Senator Obama was at any of those services, or knew about that content ... not because he heard it, but because he denied being there or knowing about it.

Barring proof, this issue doesn't matter at all to me.

Hmmmm..By the same logic you would think that the paritioners should have known that their priests were fucking their kids.

Isn't interesting?

I don't know, unless they were fucking them in the middle of services, surrounded by over 8,000 people.....

Slightly different, DG.

suck my dirty cock you dirty cock sucker....

My bad.....But....

“We bombed Hiroshima. We bombed Nagasaki. And we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon and we never batted an eye,” Wright said.

“We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because of stuff we have done overseas is now brought back into our own backyard. America is chickens coming home to roost.”

The pastor also said: “The government lied about inventing the HIV virus as a means of genocide against people of color. The government lied."

Are there not some truths in what the good pastor had to say?

I'm much more concerned about the Rezko shit than the rantings of a pissed off and angry black man. Are there any other kind? Quite frankly he probably has a right to be rather p.o.'d.

Hey, out of curiosity, does anyone else remember during the republican primaries when it was considered dirty politics to peruse Huckabee's old sermons or to ask questions about Romney's secret underwear?  Good times.

Apparently, though, the rules have changed, just in time for a popular smear email telling me that Obama is a Muslim followed by a "Controversy" (tm) about things that Obama's Christian minister said.  How odd.  Damn that liberal media.

Oh, and as long as we're attributing guilt by association, is McCain still having Bill Cunningham introduce him at rallies?  Is he still praising Bush?  Heck, is he still running for Bush's third term?

Sorry, got off topic a bit, but this sort of nonsense is why we end up electing people like Bush.

I have to confess total ignorance regarding Romney's drawers, or looking at Huckabee's old sermons..... what do you got?

Valid points to bring up, not that I agree with the Rev.

It is a nice shirt....As meaningless as the message might be.

Level, You are correct. The rezko thing is what is bugging me about Obama. Everyone knows and associates with A-holes...It is unfortunately part of the process. You denounce to many reverends and you lose a great deal of the voters. He sought out Wright as an advisor...Just because the guy is opinionated doesn't mean that he gave Obama bad advice. What he said to Obama might be different then what he tells his paritioners.

What are we looking for. That his spiritual advisor should always love America no matter the shortcomings? That a minority should never be upset because of the perpetuated wrongs? Maybe it takes someone like this to help a young man find his path and the strength to proceed.

One thing I have always believed is that it is impossible to understand what it is like growing up in this country as a non-white.

We can speculate and we can imagine....But I don't think that we have the foggiest notion as to what must be endured even today.

Okay, but is it the exact same scenario?

Wright and Obama - a close relationship spanning two decades.

McCain and Cunnigham - how often have they met? are they long-time associates?

And Cunnigham's comments just happened, so it seems slightly more plausible that McCain  had not heard about them, while Rev Wright's goes back at least a couple of years.

The two "speakers" certainly reacted differently. Wright seemed to defend Obama, while Cunningham accused McCain of throwing him under the bus.

Yup, it looks very much like a hell of a sweetheart deal

Agreed. And in my snooping, I saw things about Wright that were positive; I'm sure Obama has reason to hold good thoughts of the man, and I do believe Obama when he says he disagrees with the Rev's more "out there" ideas.

No, it can't be easy. I wish we were color-blind, but we ain't, and that won't happen for a terribly long time, if ever.
