I hate it when.....I hate my job. I know I should be thankful, grateful and other adjectives, but my God!! I want off this rollercoaster!! [sm=river.gif]

You and me both, sblady! My boss' new brainstorm; which hit us like a freight train this morning:
Starting today, our hourly wage (which hasn't increased one cent for COL in over 2 1/2 years) will be decreased for every "mistake" we make in a given pay period, all the way down to minimum wage. For added fun, said "mistakes" and decreases in pay will not be defined, but determined by whatever the hell the boss (who is 2800 miles away) feels like doing at any given moment. [8|]

fluffypet61 -> RE: I hate it when........ (2/17/2010 10:14:08 PM)

That is a very strange pay system, Wyld.

KMsAngel -> RE: I hate it when........ (2/17/2010 10:21:19 PM)

do you belong to a unioin, wyld? surely the "no definition" at the very least is illegal?? how are you supposd to avoid mistakes if you aren't given fair and clear warning what those mistakes entail?

WyldHrt -> RE: I hate it when........ (2/17/2010 10:46:22 PM)

Yes it is, Fluffy. This just came out of the blue today. Before, we were paid our set hourly wage for every hour we worked- now... who knows.

Angel- No union, this is a very small company with only a few employees. AFAIK, "mistakes" include, but are not limited to: not doing something the boss wants when he wants it, whether or not it is physically possible [8|]; not checking the emails and phone messages first thing in the morning (I'm apparently supposed to do both simultaneously, as they are both #1 on the list), forgetting to order anything for any reason, making a typo in a shipping address, not providing "perfect" customer service, and/or messing up on any of the 100 other things that I do every day while running this business.

KMsAngel -> RE: I hate it when........ (2/17/2010 10:53:38 PM)

uh huh. and does he get the same kind of demerit's when he makes mistakes?

that's screwed. if he wants perfection he needs to invest in some AI and make sure that he programs them PERFECTLY so no mistakes will ever be made.

the short-term thinking of some people just absolutely baffles me. i'm going through hell at work too, but the frustration level of someone from "way over there" making decisons that affect me/my clients because it sounds good, or it saves money, but doesn't take into consideration simple human logistics just messes with my mind.

i read today that aus is undergoing some good economic forecasts. means i'll keep a closer eye on job openings elsewhere. i'd hate to leave my clients, but man, the stress is messing with me.

{{hugs}}

I so understand what you both are going through....

sunshinemiss -> RE: I hate it when........ (2/18/2010 6:25:13 AM)

I think that is against the law Wyld. Not sure, but I'd check with an attorney.

VirginPotty -> RE: I hate it when........ (2/18/2010 7:43:54 AM)

Agreed Wyld.......that's also the biggest bunch of bullshit I've ever heard about a job & I've heard plenty!
Check w/an atty, that just HAS to be against the las & if it is sue his freakin' a$$ for even trying to pull that sh*t!

Marc2b -> RE: I hate it when........ (2/18/2010 8:00:51 AM)

It seems only fair that this system should go both ways.

Not checking the emails and phone messages first thing in the morning:  - $5.00

Forgetting to order anything for any reason:  - $7.50

Making a typo in a shipping address:  - $10.00

Not providing perfect customer service - $25.00

Being a short sighted, pompous ass of a boss with lousy people skills: - $1000.00

According to this:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19226911/
it is legal in some cases, but I would ask your state labor board for clarification.

That's awful!! I know you mentioned that this isn't a union job, but have you had a chance to review the policy manual? Just...wow!!

If it is an "at will" employment state, the employer can determine the expectations for its employees.  At such time that the employer decides those expectations are not being met, the employer can terminate the employee, without notice.  In the alternative, employees may leave his or her employment, without cause or notice to the employer.  However, the employee usually gets a better reference if s/he gives notice that s/he is planning on terminating that employment.
