OK, I got my Smirnoff, and while I'm leaving the store, some sweet lil thing tells me my tire is going flat. So, I thank him and go to the gas station and fill it back up. As I'm getting ready to get back in the car, I get a phone call from a strange, but local number, telling me that he has some "papers" from the house I used to live in. I tell him that I'll be right there as it is only a couple miles away. I call my father and tell him that if I'm not back soon, to send the cops to the old house bc I've been ax-murdered. He says ok and hangs up. I get there to see a lovely couple dying eggs with their daughter. The husband hands me a package I recognize immediately. All of my divorce papers that I had kept in a very secure place. (So secure that I forgot where I put them apparently, almost 2 years ago, when I moved out.)
After thanking him over and over for being so kind to return them, we talk and find out that his uncle and my grandfather were business partners eons ago! Just too funny and weird. So, now I'm about an hour late in starting my guerilla cleaning and drinking, but I just had to share my moment of weirdness.
God bless my elderly father, when I called to tell him that I was on my way and was not killed, so he shouldn't worry... he said he figured I got into a conversation and wasn't worried. Dear me, the great generation (WW2 era) still has the loveable Mayberry mentality. I coulda been hacked to bits but he figured I turned my document retrieval trip into a social call. OK, well that's what happened, but still...  He's so cute, I said, "Dad, weren't you concerned?" He replied so sweetly, "No, honey, you're Southern. It's in your nature to be chatty."
