I don’t define who was meant to be depressed; I don’t see it like that. Find the section of my text that states people who feel they need these drugs should not be prescribed them? All I have said is related to how I feel about the drugs for my own health. The way I make the choices not to consider it.

If you say that your brain can’t process serotonin then that to me is a defect, we can call it something else if you like but the fact is you yourself are pointing it out as such, i.e. something you and your medical advisor consider to be not working as normal.

These medicines will have an effect on your personality if only an indirect one.

I’m sorry if I have upset or offended anyone it wasn’t my intention but people are reading into things I have written which I never meant. I was just interested in an open discussion on prescription drugs for people with mental heath issues, that is all.

Apology accepted. You could start your own thread openly discussing what you want to talk about.

Sorry if you find this to be a hijack but my conversation on this flowed from your initial response to me.

OK, faery, calm down.I'll come up with an answer -- of sorts.

I think my sex drive is automatic - with an overdrive function. No reverse, though - oh, well, that might not be totally true (thinking of certain anatomical parts). But, then again, there's the stick that controls the overdrive...

Oh, dang. Now you've got me confuzzled.

I think so many people that dont take psych meds think that those that do are either going to act like Stepford wives ... zombies or are addicts.

They dont realize that it is usually a chemical inbalance/ defect in the way our brains process or dont process something. When this is corrected we often handle more stress than the average person and thus function better than most.

Everything we do has a "side effect" it seems .. and the ones that come with the meds to me are less than the ones that come from not taking them... so it is a trade off and one that I decide with research and reasonable intelligence which I choose to accept.  Loss of sex drive is not one any of us enjoy !

For too many years it was shameful to take this type of meds or to see a therapist.. and there are still a few carryovers from that era that feel that way .. thank goodness that is changeing.

some think one is not depressed on SSRIs. well that is not true.  one does still feel- one isnt deliriously happy.  I have been on SSRIs for hmm, 7 years.

I resisted as I had a bad experience with a early generation SSRI med.

In my experience- of the many meds for a hodge podge of ailments- the SSRI is among the top- in making life liveable.

some of my "betterment" has been of cutting of the negativeness.  i dont go down certain roads now.
