It's annoying. Like, off meds...I masturbate like 5 or more times a day...now that I'm taking meds again, I haven't even felt like it in weeks...It's not even like I'm on a high dose...I'm on the lowest dose! I think it's the Cymbalta...b/c it is an SNRI like Effexor and when I was taking Effexor I had no sex drive at all and couldn't climax when I did try. I take Neurontin as well...don't know if that has any sexual side effects?

Neurontin had no side effects for me, actually it had no effect whatsoever lol. Zoloft now.. that is a biggie for being a libido-killer, I was on that for nearly 6 years and my poor lil libido has yet to recover.It did for about a week after switching to Wellbutrin but alas, it didn't seem to stick and I am back to having sex be something of a concept rather than reality.Possibly it is because of my morphine but I don't know. Aswad is a good person for this sort of information, he has helped me quite a bit and I think he is a wonderful guy. Weird feeling isn't it? To have a dead libido, to have sex become an almost abstract memory. Frustrating too.

I used to take Wellbutrin...I loved it...really decreased my appetite LOL but you aren't supposed to take it if you have low potassium, can kill ya...so when I was in the hospital, they took me off it. *sighs*

Zoloft killed my appetite, I lost 100 pounds. Wellbutrin has returned my appetite and I've gained 30 pounds back.

weird LOL I gained on Zoloft...LOL Zoloft was the first antidepressant I tried...a zillion years ago...hehe

What dose of Wellbutrin are you on? I went up to 300 mg pretty fast...

Yup the majority do gain on Zoloft, it is the only reason I miss it. As a medication for depression it was not all that great for me, but watching the pounds literally just go 'poof' was totally cool.I got down to a size 4. eta, 300mgs on Wellbutrin

wow...I've never been that thin LOL at my lowest weight, 130 lbs...I was a size 11 LOL my hips were always huge.

That's why I will nevah change my profile pic lol. I'm not permitted to be that thin ever again but I cherish the memory and the photos.Since I am in a long term relationship it doesn't matter what my pic here is.. so I'm keeping it up.(plus I need a photog for new pics and haven't one) Going back to bed, this was a bout of insomnia that led to these postings.

I should go to bed soon as well...after 6 am here LOL I never sleep anymore.

EDIT: oh and if you don't already, make sure you take the Wellbutrin in the morning, not the evening b/c it can cause insomnia.

a small crowd is making alotof noise on SSRIs.    each one effects people differently.

it takes maybe 6 weeks too gain the benefit.

the SSRI, very much has improved my life. If there is a reduced sex drive of it- I am willing to accept it- as it was too much to be as moody as I was.

The 2nd med you mentioned-   do some reading on it.   I was on it...then a big deal was made on it. So I took myself off of it.

My experience has been the 1st one you mentioned effects me less per the sex drive.   That med is 2 chem reactions as aposed to 1.

Funny how many resist this class of meds when they dont feel good with in 4 hours.

cymbalta killed my sex drive as well...it is a risk:benifit ratio thing...
if it helped alot I would not have cared....

some folks rotate these meds as they are quickly not effective.

i suspect the powers that be will soon make these meds more "controlled".

granted- some simply cant handle meds.... and certainly I dis-approve of rampant rx-ing of under 18s. [i feel a body must mature first,]

ild rather have abit less of a sex drive then to be so annoyed at every little thing.

the good thing- is for the most part we have choice.

If a person dislikes sex then a lower sex drive should not be a bad thing.

Interesting talk about the SSRI's in use by it would seem most people. I take Citalopram, though I do not believe it did a great deal, it did allow me time away from many of the stresses of life to evaluate myself.

But with such meds, forgetfulness is a problem, and on occaision I do forget to take the meds, sometimes for two or three days in a row. I soon remember when I get that oh so familier effect of not having them up to strength, I go wild, sex drive is like I have never experienced before, it becomes consuming as if all I exist for is sex. This has caused some problems, by getting myself into situations better judgement would disallow. This affect at it's height, nothing else matters, it is as if the flood gates are opened and all that lack of interest and activity is let out in one big wave.

The meds when I started some ten months ago, totally killed sex drive, there was no pleasure and life despite medication became worse.I did fear the future with these things, now off them, the complete reverse. Perhaps a reduced dose might bring normality. I am on 40 mg Citalopram.

which is different from not enjoying the pleasure of arousal and masturbation etc.

Catty would depend on the nature of intent. Since you have no idea of intent........you have no idea as to whether it was catty or NOT! Perhaps if you had typed it, it would have been. But since I typed it, I know the nature of my intent. Therefor your statement could also be perceived as such.

The obvious thing to do is to complain to your Dr., and try something else, which does not have the problematic "sexual side effects." Not to worry, they'll have you up and masturbating 5X a day again in no time! (Send us tapes for verification please.)
