Miss Harlet, I once saw a documentary which showed the various ingredients that go into basic chocolate. We don't realise that every time we are in a store and pick up a bar the manufacturers have deliberately plied it with caffeine and several 'numbered' ingredients that deliberately induce cravings for MORE. Yet, that's not regulated, as such. People are clueless as to what goes in that stuff and like most other people, I adore it but if I eat more than a small bar a day instead of it giving me a 'boost', I feel sluggish and fit for nothing but sleep, and three times per year purge all unnatural sugars from my body - the withdrawals aren't pleasant and resemble galloping DTs for a couple of days. I would like to those four monthly purges to become one - and permanent. I'm working on it lol

caffeine is hidden in lots of stuff even chocolate and other things read labels .. and MT dew is higher than coffee

Gwyn, you cutie, If you can swing the govt. into providing socialised healthcare, and Florida gives me freshly squeezed orange juice every morning, I'll kayak across the pond a couple of times a year and we can exam.... share Greedy on a rota basis.

Thanks for the info on more recent mammograms, I'm long overdue to have one done so that's handy to know that it's no longer an unpleasant squashing procedure.

Nope.. you cant have her... that means she would have to move away from me! *pouts and stomps her foot*

She has to stay here... *smiles*

BTW Ladies they now have a process where they do not squish you.. they take a digital image by you laying in this tube, and your boobs go into these indented cups.

Lady Hibiscus, what with ropey tits, hot flushes and losing battles with gravity, no wonder most women (okay, me) become shop/choco holics!

On a serious note, the average annum per year in the UK is approx. £16k, that's £1300 per month. What is that like compared to the US, and how on earth can one afford such high healthcare premiums, they sound crippling... designed so that if the condition doesn't getcha, high health costs will! It's time for a revolution!

Oh, Miss Morrigan, you sweet thing!  I about snorted my virtual coffee at your earlier post!!

I have paid for my own health insurance for years, being one of those lucky sickos who needs the Good Insurance.....I now pay about $600 a month for it.  After I cough up a deductible of $1250,  everything is covered.  Since my meds (which cost over $400 a month, because I get a DISCOUNT thx!) go toward the deductible, ohhhh only a few of those hundred-dollar doctor visits are needed to put me over the limit by April.  This new policy has mammograms totally covered!  Which is vv exciting, since I used to have to budget for them, and it's something over $300, once you add all the bills up.   My colleague, cancer survivor and psoriasis patient, has to pay out of pocket for her Enbril.  Just don't ask how much ONE shot of that stuff costs.

Maya, I wasn't being serious with my comment about nipping over into Canada, it was a dig at Michael Moore's faux portrayal of the socialised health care system in Canada.

Visiting Canada would not help her anyway, you  have to have a health card for the province you live in or a private health insurance plan

I tend to think it's hormonal.  Also...mammograms aren't that painful.

<mammograms aren't that painful>

Really?!
Maybe I need to switch to a different place/tech to have it done.

They ask, "Does that hurt?"
I tell them, "YES!"
Then they continue squeezing down...
but then I am not a masochist so maybe things hurt me (in a not nice way) more than others...

Miss Morrigan, the costs ARE crippling!!  I used to have a retirement account....  oh well!

If your mammograms are painful, first check what time of the month you are going, and go just after your period.  Also, you CAN ask for a different tech!  My breasts are large, and still dense in spite of my age and it is not an oh-wow-great experience, but not ghastly pain either.  And I have **extremely** sensitive breasts.  Sometimes it's just the person doing it.  Also they CAN adjust those plates for shorter gals, so you don't have to stretch oddly.

Before I respond to GT's OP, I want to point out that the outpouring of concern in this thread has made me a bit emotional.     Thank goodness He's out of town or else I'd probably be banned from reading the forums.  The information provided is just fabulous, but I wanted to toss in a couple of other options.

Greedy, do you have any friends who can place you on their insurance through their employment?  My company's policy has provisions for "domestic partners".  If someone can add you to their policy, it may raise their monthly contribution, however, the amount would be minor compared to some of the other options; with the exception of  free clinics and health departments.

If you happen to visit a doctor or clinic and can't afford to pay the bill in full, they should be able to set up a payment arrangement ($25 to $50 per month, depending on the total bill).  I know the healthcare industry has become "big business" and if you're concerned with potential "heavy handed collection calls", send me a message and I can definitely help you navigate your way through this....prior to it affecting your credit rating/score.

I'm sure everything will be fine, but I'll certainly keep you in my prayers.

GT, I have issues with my breasts and armpits when I'm ovulating.....not when I have my period.  My breasts get sore, and the lymph nodes in the armpit that is on the side of my ovulating ovary swell.  Maybe this is the problem?

Check out planned parenthood.....you can get care there.....at least make sure that everything is ok.
