The British shows came to the US mostly on Public Broadcasting. All of them were several years old, but I always looked forward to seeing them.

British humor after B Hill and MP's Holy Grail leaves me wondering, WTF. Bean is an idiot, I suppose I have only seen bits of their humor, and PBS is not showing the best of it I'm sure. I like a few of their stand ups. After that, if it wasn't for the hot little tarts and their sweet little accents I'd have only limited use for the Brits in the entertainment venue. I must say though, I've carnally known three different British girls and all three could suck a golf ball through a coffee straw. While not all that funny, it left me smiling and quite happy. I would like to test this sexual theory against a much more statistical noteworthy number. -clears his throat, straightens his tie, straightens the ole posture and attempts to look all scholarly.- (lol, a tie...............as if.) Volunteers for this scientific adventure contact Professor Bull.

ok a list of my favourites, (all going back 20 or so years),Rowan Atkinson(anything in his early careerBlackadder)) Not The nine Oclock News, Billy Connelly, Freddie Star, Jim Davidson, Morecambe and Wise, The Two Ronnies, Hale and Pace, Red Dwarf, Last of the summer Wine .....Compo and Nora were my favourites, Eastenders, Ab fab, Lenny Henry, The Young Ones, French and Saunders(altho they could get a bit blahhh), Allo, Allo....Porridge, the Goodies, Jasper Carrot, Farty Towels, Up Pompeii, The Goons...and of course MP. I just started recording Little Britain and downloading a lot of the "Carry on" movies tooo Yeah ahem, I cant remember all of them, but I do like britcomedy, and brit dramas(not going into a list here), Most american comedy or what passes for it gets up my nose, mainly for the same reason as others have posted, canned laughter, and reallllllllly bad presenters(bob saget makes me wanna commit murder). I like standup, that I get, but my humour is sick and twisted and very british in the sarcastic/selfdeprecating manner. I love Family Guy, Quads, The Oblongs, Aqua Teen Hunger force, Simpsons, SouthPark, Tripping the Rift. Im sure I have missed out a bunch, but the m emory isnt so good anymore, sighs Edited to add Only Fools and horses, how could I forget that Lucy

Lucy listed most of my fav's... who could forget Ronnie Barker's "Pissmonunciation" skit, The Good Life, It Ain't Half Hot Mum.... Dad's Army.... the St. Trinian's movies... but what I'd really like is a good link to a skit by Rowan Atkinson in which he plays a Pakistani waiter trying to serve a drunk rugby team..... [:D]

I grew up watching BlackAdder, Monty Python, AbFab, Mr. Bean and Doctor Who with my mum. She went into labour watching Doctor Who in fact! I was destined to be a SciFi geek. Later on, I was introduced to more of the dramas when she started watching more of BBC America. I rather enjoy Wire in the Blood. Ballkissangel is also entertaining when I catch it. Agatha Christie is great fun. I adored As Time Goes By. I saw a bit of, and enjoyed, Hamish Macbeth. Love Inspector Lynley Mysteries. Quite enjoyed Kavanagh Q.C. Midsomer Murders was also entertaining. I'm also quite keen on Hex, Life on Mars, Red Dwarf, Torchwood, Jeeves and Wooster, Touching Evil, Black Books and the Vicar of Dibley. I'm probably missing some... but that's likely a good chunk of it. p.s. Eddie Izzard is a god.

English humour is wildly competitive. We don't have a "let's all get along" attitude/humour; we tend to push people to find out what they're made of. There's more to English humour than self-depreciation - sarcasm, cynical, belittling etc.....and to be totally honest - obnoxious and disrespectful. Those across the water don't get our humour or attitude, so it's no surprise that a country thousands of miles away has a different take on life. For me, the following is typically English: The German foreign ambassador to England wrote a letter to The Sun (the biggest selling daily newspaper in England) which was saying something along the lines of "look, us Germans do have a sense of humour, do us a favour and stop taking the piss out of us". The idea was to promote cultural understanding (the Germans are pretty much a laughing stock in England......along with the Frogs, Jocks, Taffs etc). Anyway, the German foreign ambassador arranged a meeting at The Sun's HQ to have a chat in preparation for what he thought was going to be an article promoting Germany and cultural understanding........ The headline in the following day's The Sun was........"THE SUN TALKS TO THE HUN" (bear in mind this newspaper sells something like 3 million copies a day). Another gem from The Sun: The day before we were due to play Spain in a Euro Championships quarter-final they ran an article........"20 reasons to hate the Spanish.....number 1: syphilis........."
