Celtic, Fargle, I tend to subscribe to the P.T. Barnum axiom that "There's a sucker born every minute." Although I have a great deal of respect for the individual (the artist, the leader, the teacher)... I find that when you get more than a few of them together, they immediately start choosing a scapegoat. Man is a base, vile, brutish animal when in herds. The truely sad thing is, we've built societal institutions dedicated to promoting "herd" mentality. Everything from kindergarden where children are seperated into "teams," to being "proud of your school" (and talking trash about all others) to being told to be proud of your state, or your country. We cast ourselves into an "us vs. them" mentality. The media, spewing fear and hatred, re-enforces that point of view. They also program us for comsumption, and distract us from unpleasant truths. ) Religions teach us all that we have to stay in line, and think/act like everyone else, if we want to win God's (The Big Dom in the Sky) favor. I reject most of that. I always have. Maybe I'm a mutant, but I pretty much see through the BS of our so-called "civilization" and see it for the sham it is. Religion is a lie. Politics exists to control us, and keep us in the "herd." Art and sex are about the only "real" things anymore. (And even those you have to filter out a lot of bullshit.) I tend to vote Democratic simply because I see them as being a slightly better alternative than keeping thugs in office. The comparisons between the Clinton years and Bush's tenure should be obvious: Bill lied about a private matter, and got impeached for it. But we got a great economy, realtive peace, and better relations with the rest of the world. Bush, on the other hand, lied about WMD, and he and his cronies have been eroding America on every level since. He still hasn't been impeached, or even called on the carpet for his crimes...yet.
