Why do you make such sweeping, negative, and fundamentally wrong generalizations about this country's citizens?

The one thing that I find most striking again and again about erstwhile Democrats is their explicit hatred for their own country.

If America is such a beknighted entity, so utterly undeserving of any bounty or benevolence, why are you even here?

Americans, after all, includes you?  Or are you the "exception" that "proves" your little rule?

You have a point.

Rainman had a useful talent at least. Which is more than can be said for the low-grade-moron roaming the US.

I mean. They are accepting torture, spies and lies JUST LIKE THE "GOOD GERMANS" DID.

Suckers and Fools, who get *exactly* the Government they deserve. No amount of derision is sufficient to convey my contempt for the sheep.

Celtic, Fargle,

I tend to subscribe to the P.T. Barnum axiom that "There's a sucker born every minute." Although I have a great deal of respect for the individual (the artist, the leader, the teacher)... I find that when you get more than a few of them together, they immediately start choosing a scapegoat. Man is a base, vile, brutish animal when in herds.

The truely sad thing is, we've built societal institutions dedicated to promoting "herd" mentality. Everything from kindergarden where children are seperated into "teams," to being "proud of your school" (and talking trash about all others) to being told to be proud of your state, or your country. We cast ourselves into an "us vs. them" mentality. The media, spewing fear and hatred, re-enforces that point of view. They also program us for comsumption, and distract us from unpleasant truths. ) Religions teach us all that we have to stay in line, and think/act like everyone else, if we want to win God's (The Big Dom in the Sky) favor.

I reject most of that. I always have. Maybe I'm a mutant, but I pretty much see through the BS of our so-called "civilization" and see it for the sham it is.

Religion is a lie.
Politics exists to control us, and keep us in the "herd."
Art and sex are about the only "real" things anymore. (And even those you have to filter out a lot of bullshit.)

I tend to vote Democratic simply because I see them as being a slightly better alternative than keeping thugs in office. The comparisons between the Clinton years and Bush's tenure should be obvious: Bill lied about a private matter, and got impeached for it. But we got a great economy, realtive peace, and better relations with the rest of the world. Bush, on the other hand, lied about WMD, and he and his cronies have been eroding America on every level since. He still hasn't been impeached, or even called on the carpet for his crimes...yet.

Should have kept on this thread...

The 1960 election, Kennedy won. All the claims of fraud don't help Nixon win. Flat out give MA and IL to Nixon and he still doesn't win. That leaves the bogus Texas complaints. The GOP litigated the Texas results for better than 6 months and eventually had to admit there was nothing there.

I have found man to be...man.  Good in some ways, bad in others, but always man.

This is a bullshit post.

One of the main principles of being an American is being able to question your government. Lately it seems that we have kind of hit the same stride that we had in the McCarthy era.

Why shouldn't we question our government? Why should we put a positive spin on things that have transpired? And to call someone UnAmerican who still has the strength to stand up and allow their voice to be heard should always be applauded.

We live in difficult times. We are a scared Country. We don't care if our rights are trampled. As I have said before we cling to the idea..."That you don't have to worry if you are not doing something wrong." We will gladly surrender our rights to protect us from the bogey man.

There are things in this country that are truly fucked up. As long as you stay unaffected then why should you have any concern? It takes the strong to stand in the face of their government and say..."No, you are wrong or that we are Americans but you are not addressing our concerns...Why is that?

These are tough times and they call for extraordinary people. Those who will not fall prey to the knee jerk reactions of politicians.

It takes guts and intelligence...How many people really have The Right Stuff?

Domiguy, read before reacting.

Question the government by all means.  Hell, denounce Dubya as inept, incompetent, and criminal.   I'll probably agree with you there.

A blanket trashing of the American people themselves is itself an injustice, not to mention counterproductive.

If we can't at least respect each other, how can we work on making anything better?

I stand corrected...I didn't catch the post that you were responding to...Oh my god! was that a rush to judgment? lol...Only bad things occur when we choose to follow that path...my apologies.

Perhaps the key is to not vote back any incumbents, toss out the career politicians and replace them.  So long as Congress refuses to change, and we continue to support them into their dotage (like Byrd), we get what we get.  To believe any president can fix what ails us is naive.  The only change the Dems are proposing is the spare change in your wallet after they have taxed away the rest.

Come the revolution, we'll remember to put in term limits, among other things!

Vote Cthulhu:  Why choose the lesser of two evils?

Except, who do you think has been sitting idly by, watching American Idol, and Survivor, rather than giving a crap about what's been happening the last seven years? Yeah, right. The American herd. Who went in for all that "Freedom Fries" bullshit? Who watches with breathless anticipation for the latest news about the three skank blondes that permeate our entertainment news? Who hasn't said a peep while the GOP has been shitting on the Constitution, and taking a pot shot or two at the Bill of Rights? (Constitutional ammendment against gay marriage, my ass!)

The American people, as a whole, have gotten lazy, stupid and bigoted.

I think it all started with the production of TV sets en masse in 1947. It's been downhill ever since.
