cyberdude611 -> Republicans know how to win elections (3/20/2008 1:26:35 PM)

With John McCain's nomination wrapped up, there is only one reason for Republicans to go to the polls this primary season.....screw up the Democrats.

That's exactly what many conservative talk show hosts like Rush Limbaugh are telling listeners to do. Limbaugh calls it "Operation Chaos." And he says he has already "bloodied up" Barak Obama between this strategy and the Rev Wright scandal.

Limbaugh may be right. National poll numbers show Obama has lost all momentum and is losing independents and especially white men since the Rev. Jeremiah Wright issue was brought to public's eyes.
John McCain and Hillary have seen increases in their poll numbers. According to Gallup, Hillary now leads Obama in the national polls. And if the election were held today, John McCain would beat both Hillary and Obama. More bad news for Dems is a new poll out in Florida. 24% of registered Democrats say they will NOT vote in November for either Hillary or Obama if the DNC refuses to seat Florida's delegates. Florida Democrats are becoming increasingly angry at the national party.

I don't think it matters who wins.

This country is over. Good idea, poor implementation.

cyberdude611 -> RE: Republicans know how to win elections (3/20/2008 1:40:06 PM)

Sure, sure...

But you still can't ignore politics. Uninformed voters is part of the reason we have such a screwed up government today. Im still going to follow this race.

pahunkboy -> RE: Republicans know how to win elections (3/20/2008 1:52:36 PM)

in a way it is a mute point.   congress WILL turn over.   so- with a congress that is relevent every thing doesnt hing on one woman/man.

so- there is hope there.   hopefully.

pahunkboy -> RE: Republicans know how to win elections (3/20/2008 2:01:21 PM)

PSSST!   I just spent the aftenoon at the graveyard.    I signed up  1,462 new democrats to vote!!!

signed- "republicans for Obama"   PA delegation  ~ !

cyberdude611 -> RE: Republicans know how to win elections (3/20/2008 2:11:29 PM)

Congress IS turned over! The Democrats have a majority in both houses. And it's very unlikely Democrats will pick up enough seats to break any impasse. Even hardcore Democrat strategists say it's a long shot to break open anything big.

Congress WILL NOT end this war and WILL NOT fix the economy. That's a given. There is way too much special interests and lobbying going on in BOTH parties. The White House is the only hope at this point.

domiguy -> RE: Republicans know how to win elections (3/20/2008 3:00:30 PM)

I have always thought that Republicans have to lose elections. Democrats can't win them. The Dem party is way to diverse which does not cater to a certain mindset or ideaology.

So things have to be kind of fucked up in order for the Democrats to prevail. Like now. There is a chance.

farglebargle -> RE: Republicans know how to win elections (3/20/2008 3:14:14 PM)

Ah... The Naive Belief that your vote actually matters rears its stupid-fucking-head again...

pahunkboy -> RE: Republicans know how to win elections (3/20/2008 3:30:15 PM)

So FB, how does the lone man,  construct a better country?

This is not a new strategy by any stretch of the imagination.  The Republicans took efforts to help Kerry win the nomination last time because that is who they really wanted to have opposing them.   This is right out of the Karl Rove play book and he didn't originate the tactic.

bipolarber -> RE: Republicans know how to win elections (3/20/2008 4:31:39 PM)

I remember when Rethuglicans set up robo calls to voters in key states when Kerry was running. The calls thanked them for their support for Kerry's promises to "ban the Bible" and to "legalize gay marriage" upon getting into office. I also remember seeing photos of republicans dressed in stereotypical "gay pride" outfits, and standing by the roadside near the polls, holding signs reading "Vote Kerry = gay marriage!" or "Vote Kerry = Abortions on demand!"

Republicans are thugs. They cheat, they lie, they have no respect for the voting system. I can't even begin to call them "Americans." Anyone who shows so little respect for democracy obviously doesn't believe in the ideals we were founded on.  Considering how much trouble this country is in, I think registered Republicans should be forced to pay for the war, for the rebuilding of New Orleans, for the housing crisis and pay every wounded vet their contracted benefits.

Fuck republicans. They're evil incarnate.

They know how to steel elections, too.

They`re experts.

I don't think Artificial Governmental Entities larger than a "State" function very effectively.

Always, and I mean ALWAYS remember "Pournelle's Iron Law of Bureaucracy", vis:

"...in any bureaucratic organization there will be two kinds of people: those who work to further the actual goals of the organization, and those who work for the organization itself. Examples in education would be teachers who work and sacrifice to teach children, vs. union representative who work to protect any teacher including the most incompetent. The Iron Law states that in all cases, the second type of person will always gain control of the organization, and will always write the rules under which the organization functions."

You can summarize that as: "The goal of Government Employees is to hire more subordinate Government Employees"

The key is to keep the "Tooth to Tail Ratio" manageable, hence the limit of the "State" as the basic-unit of "Statehood" -- So to speak...

So the Democrats have respect for democracy??? Why do the Democrats have so many superdelegates? So an elite hierarchy has the ability to overrule what their own party members want? Yep! That's exactly why they are there.

Democrats have never cheated in elections? What about the election of 1960? Nixon may very well have won that election. There was some crooked stuff going on....

Isn't it even a little bit important to remember that the USA is not a democracy?  It is a Republic.

This country is over.

No statement, pro-Clinton, pro-Obama, pro-McCain, pro-anything could possibly be as absolutely and categorically wrong as these few words.

This country has its issues, has its problems, has its deep and dangerous divisions, but its final chapters have yet to be written.

There is much good in this country, and the greatest good of all is that we are able to have intense and passioned political debates such as the ones here in these forums without people taking to the streets in violent rebellion.  In countries such as China and Russia, those who speak against the regime are imprisoned and sometimes executed.  In countries such as Pakistan leaders are assassinated in pursuit of political agendas.  In countries such as Venezuela, leaders seek to game the system to perpetuate their personal power.

Whatever the faults and flaws of this year's crop of presidential candidates, whatever faults and flaws exist in this country's political processes, the above-mentioned flaws do not number among them.  Even the controversies surrounding Florida in 2000 did not result in violence or insurrection--an outcome which would have been almost de rigeuer in other parts of the globe.  Despite all manner of controversy, our political processes have endured intact for over 200 years, and, so long as people continue to care, will endure for 200 more and beyond.

No, this country is not over....not yet, and not by a damn sight.

Ah, 1960.
Jack went to bed because he was so tired and he wasn't making any headway in the numbers.  It was slow going that election!  When he awoke to find he was president he asked Joe (his daddy) what took so long.  Joe replied:  "I promised you a win.  I didn't promise you a landslide."
So that story goes...

It`s also a democracy.

The two aren`t mutually exclusive.

LMAO

Do you remember Nixon?

So you start the conversation that way, and then wonder why the ideas that matter to you never get a seat at the table and why you keep losing elections.

Do understand, Bipo, that I voted for Bush in '04 precisely as a rejection of the kind of partisan bile you spew.
