ORIGINAL: kittinSol Many of these romance novels are generated by a computer program . In the late 1920's, a Russian by the name of Vladamir Propp published a book called Morphology of the Folktale in which creates a catalogue of characters, their functions, and plot elements. It is basically a schema for generating Russian fairy tales. There have been many computer programs that implement this and are capable of generating new tales. In reality, you could probably do this with Harlequins, but you'd still need a writer to smooth it out. About 15 years ago, I thought maybe I could knock some off, so I got the guidelines (you just ask them) for what was required for each of their lines. It is very formulaic, but one thing that they stress throughout is that the most successful Harlequins are written by the people that love them. I couldn't bring myself to read one, and certainly never got around to writing one.
