Why masters are maters and Doms are Doms?
Is it true that all masters are dominates but not all doms are masters? what is the difference between the two?

I think i get what you are saying, its about catagories

A Dominant means Top, Dom, Master
A submissive is a bottom, sub, slave

A Dom has a sub, Master a slave and Top a bottom

its all just labels really, and the definitions are purely semantical and mean something differant to differant people

Erm....would please clarify your statement plese? Specfically in what context are you theorizing that a Dom can't be a Master?

Yeah why can't a Dom be a Master..its a strangE question if you ask me...in most cases you become a DOM before you become a Master..why because in most case a dOM STARTS EARLY AND DOESN'T OWN A SLAVE..

Not all Dominants/Tops desire to be a "Master" it may just be a mere wish to be dominant to another. ie: dominant sex only. Or a Top only wants to have Sadistic scenes and sessions with a submissive/bottom.

A "Master" is more coined for a TPE type situation between a submissive/ slave.

That is my take on it.

Yup I see it that a Dominant and a Dom are two differant things, Dominant is the umbrella term and Dom is a sub-catagory just as submissive is an umbrella term and sub a sub-catagory

Perhaps Masters are "maters" because they like sex.

"Dominates" is a verb.
Dominant used in this lifestyle is more of a noun.
If you mean are Masters dominants? Then yes, that is true.

While not all Dominants are Masters or Mistresses, all Masters or Mistresses are Dominant.

Same as:
While all slaves are submissive, not all submissives are slaves.

More or less... just one person's opinion. (mine)

The reason this is an issue at all is because none of us can agree on what IS a Dom and what IS a Master. Everyone has different views and beliefs and the truth of the matter is IT DOESN'T MATTER.

This is a lifestyle if enjoyment and desire.

If I want to be called a Nyudgen and call me S/O a widget and we behave is a similar way to the idea of what it is that we do then guess what it is part of the lifestyle too. Sure there are many who would disagree and then some jackass would define what is a Twue Nyudgen and what makes a proper widget. but in the end it is all endless semantics and NO ANSWER IS EVER FOUND.

So define for yousrelf what each means and then STAND BY THAT BELIEF and make sure that no matter what the deal everyone gets to decide for themselves what is what.

(i should point out i'm probably talking through my hat here ... )

Gemini1766 to me has covered it ... it relates to your own life experience.

my life experience has given me these perceptions, accurate or not they are valid for me. i've learned there are many that call themselves 'master' and definitely are not worthy of the title/label.

a 'Master/Mistress' is. They are not tied up with rules of 'Sir/Mistress' collars on or off ... because they attract those that will serve willingly and will read and recognise thier mastery, and do what ever to serve that Master/Mistress, Dom/Domme/. The Master/Mistress looks after their possessions, who are like cats chose to be with their owners. They treat those who serve them with dignity, respect and care and both grow and blossom. yes i'm serious. Its challenging, confronting, rewarding, filled with laughter, tears, and is wonderful and painful, emotionally, personally and physically. A Master/Mistress my have one or many charges, and those charges can be slaves, submissives or bottoms. There are no rules, yet it is very structured. The bottoms will not like this for long.

Dominants are not necessarily masters, they like control but all masters/mistresses have a strong dominant within them. Dominants control their charges, enforce the rules, they can develop into masters through learning from the reactions from their charges and the way they react to their treatment. They will attract slaves, submissive snad bottoms, the slaves will not hold for long. the submissives and bottoms are often content to be with the Dominant

Tops, are not into the lifestyle, they do it from time to time, can walk away it's not a driving force, they serve a purpose. slaves/submisives will find shelter but not stay, bottoms will be content with the on/off approach

Then there are bullies, or idiots who think it's all about sex on demand, or inflicting whatever on a not so willing (and often newbie) charge. They do not consider the wellbeings of those in their care and they call themselves whatever they think will attract whatever they want, they retain no-one who is well ..um ... balanced for long - they need to grow up and become self aware.

but then i'm still so knew at this, and my perceptions in 5 years time could be completely different .. what am i? more than a bottom, and less than a submissive, craving to be a slave and yet to find a master who will allow or be able to have me to serve. geography is such a bummer.
