The English language is open to much modification, what was, now isn't, it is constantly evolving daily.Something which leaves us of an older language in constant amusement.I find the various accents in the UK, English is preserved, the old 'aye, ee, ewe and thee', reminants of an older time are preserved, All I think , is those immigrants who are unfortunate enough to find themselves in the North of England, have more than the language to contend with, but the accent itself, which is not in any text book I tried to learn Danish once, textbook danish, fat lot of use that did me in Denmark, They did not understand me and I them. I remember using danish in the street, and was asked a question by a passer by who indicated his pipe, my answer was in perfect textbook Danish was that I was English and I did not speak Danish. I can only feel for the old chap who was without a light in his pipe.
