Level -> 1 Hit Wonders - Round 1 0f 8 (3/28/2008 7:54:52 PM)

Another big-ass set of music polls. Round 1 of 8. That means, if you don't see a favorite here, look at the other 7 before bitching. If it's not on those, either I missed it, or it sucks.  These initial 8 rounds will last until Wednesday evening at 7:00 central time. Then we'll put each rounds winner into a final poll. Weeeee..... Thanks for voting and commenting, as always, I appreciate it.  Jay Ferguson -Thunder Island http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdfyUZUllLI Benny Mardones - Into the Night http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyUUIUjdDRE Iron Butterfly - Inna Gada Da Vida http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33k9pRTfo2I The Escape Club - Wild, Wild West http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23nqInkEDTc Terence Trent D'Arby - Wishing Well http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-Uz-dPANDY Steam - Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Them Goodbye http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwnqqj5Q1BU Tracy Chapman - Fast Car http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4mDtR4rPJ0 Norman Greenbaum - Spirit In The Sky http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4mtlqIfukc Shocking Blue - Venus http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2DBcbZc3ck When In Rome - The Promise http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tOyyrB1wj04

Norm!

And sorry, Tracy ain't a one-hit wonder.  Google "Gimme One Reason". [;)]

RazorJAK -> RE: 1 Hit Wonders - Round 1 0f 8 (3/28/2008 8:02:19 PM)

Have to call foul on d'Arby and Chapman.  Both of them had more than one hit.

Hell, at least four singles off "Introducing the Hardline ..." were in the top five.

Level -> RE: 1 Hit Wonders - Round 1 0f 8 (3/28/2008 8:06:53 PM)

One big huge freakin honking hit thread, then [:D]

I know some of these had more than one hit, but the general public would know them by the one smash, IMO.

TheHeretic -> RE: 1 Hit Wonders - Round 1 0f 8 (3/28/2008 11:34:31 PM)

        I pretended Tracy Chapman wasn't a choice here, and went Iron Butterfly.  Her whole first album was amazingly good.

     I've been through all 8, Level, I can't believe you forgot One Night in Bangkok .  I get my kicks above the waistline, Sunshine.

Ah, but was Chapman's entire album a hit? That's the main criteria I used, was the song a smash hit, and the only one the artist had. She indeed had other smaller hits, like "Talkin Bout A Revolution", and "Give Me One Reason" as someone else said, but "Fast Car" was freakishly huge, dwarfing everything else she ever did, IMO.

I'm making a note of Murray Head, I will likely do an extra round Sunday sometime, to catch any big oopsies. [:D]

lusciouslips19 -> RE: 1 Hit Wonders - Round 1 0f 8 (3/29/2008 4:01:40 AM)

Tons of one hit wonders from the early 80's, when men wore balck eyeliner and wore their hair like a peacocks Ass!

lusciouslips19 -> RE: 1 Hit Wonders - Round 1 0f 8 (3/29/2008 4:14:55 AM)

I'd like to see a poll of the worse one hit wonder songs like the one I love to hate. "Season's in the sun" or "Wildfire." [:'(]

Level -> RE: 1 Hit Wonders - Round 1 0f 8 (3/29/2008 6:22:20 AM)

War had a number of hits, but "Low Rider" was far and away the biggest:

Why Can't We Be Friends? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5DmYLrxR0Y8

Cisco Kid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGBba1AY1O4

Spill the Wine (with Eric Burdon) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7_U-zj2gfE&feature=related

You're welcome [;)] they were a very good band.

lusciouslips19 -> RE: 1 Hit Wonders - Round 1 F 8 (3/29/2008 7:29:44 AM)

They still are a very good   band!

christine1 -> RE: 1 Hit Wonders - Round 1 F 8 (3/29/2008 7:32:52 AM)

Hell, as has been pointed out, some of the choices in the various rounds are not "1 hit" bands, in the strictest sense of the word.  It's all for fun.

After this runs its course, I may do one more, on the greatest male vocalists, and that'll be all she wrote, I think.

thornhappy -> RE: 1 Hit Wonders - Round 1 0f 8 (3/29/2008 8:01:47 AM)

Iron Butterfly fer shure, with that very poorly recorded hit of theirs.  Noise levels bouncing all over, sheesh.

thornhappy of the golden ears

Kirren -> RE: 1 Hit Wonders - Round 1 0f 8 (3/29/2008 10:14:01 AM)

Flock of Seagulls has to be on there some where Level.

I loved that song.
